I want a vr space game where I can just hang out on a space station, while everyone else is dogfighting outside.

A flight control sim where you coordinate a large scale dog fight instead of a civilian airport. Sign me up.

That's a much better idea than I'm willing to admit.

Yeah, I don't think I want to support something that this guy makes. It's an interesting concept for a game though.

Space? Why on earth would you live there?

As always, VR stuff is exciting, and I appreciate that developers agree and are already on board doing all this experimentation, but it's much like the rest of E3, I won't get to experience any of it until 2015.

I didn't want to contribute to the snarky tone of the comments section here, but I feel that you definitely deserve special recognition for this line.

People make mistakes. Even if he genuinely felt that way back then, if he has changed his views on the always-on DRM policy and whatever nonsense he said back then, we should get over the whole controversy and consider his game for what it is.

Guy loses his job, admits he made a mistake, company ultimately changes policy, and all people can talk about is how they hope he continues to burn for it. Sad.

Agreed. His comments weren't even completely outrageous. I mean, everyone bitching about it was doing so ON THE INTERNET. The irony in that was lost on many. i don't want to get into it, but I thought his comments were great. It's a shame none of MS's potential game-changing ideas could be implemented. Instead we got a bigger, more confusing and broken Xbox 360. Hurray.

It's really sad how some people can't move on from a few salty comments made more than a year ago. Such red rear ends. #GetOverIt

Thanks for any interviews that you managed to cram into your schedule @patrickklepek. It definitely sounds like an interesting concept and Orth seems genuinely excited about the possibilities of VR and moving past his earlier mistake.

I didn't realize that he had been hounded that badly after the initial fallout but I am sadly not surprised at all. Hopefully people forget about it enough that his future projects can stand on their own merits and not some sort of ridiculous "punishment" for Orth himself.

Telling people they should move because they don't or LITERALLY can't get internet service that is capable of "always-online" service is downright one of the most head up the butt comments a person can make.

Who cares if he apologized, the words came out of his mouth/mind and didn't stop to think, "Is this a reasonable response to people who have no control over things that prevent them from meeting our minimum requirements to use our services?"

Some of my friends who live in very rural locations just 2-3 miles from where I live (and get 3+MB/s and pings of 20-50ms avg) can't even get decent enough service (rural DSL) to play Call of Duty with the who experience being a complete clusterfuck (pings always 100+ms or more with speeds that barely reach 2000kbps).

What do I tell them when they ask me (being an IT Technician) how I can improve their online connection? "Complain to ISP and hope and pray they find something that is causing your issues otherwise you are SOL"

It's talk like this that really gets my excited for VR. For as cool as playing something like Skyrim with full head tracking on a treadmill with Razer Hydra controllers sounds cool, I'm more interested in just being in a place, and experiencing it with as little friction as possible.

A large part of the problem people still have with him is that he kind of barely ever apologized. His claim to fame is acting like a jerk (and specifically so to the more disadvantaged out there) and this lets him then go on to get media attention and give talks about how mean the internet was to him after he incited the hate against him in the first place.

It doesn't excuse some of the disgusting things people have said to him, people absolutely did go over the line (as always happens) but it doesn't mean people have to like him, and I kind of understand how some people could be resentful of how the press is now giving him glowing "yeah, I get you bro, the internet is full of big jerks" media defenses. It perfectly (if somewhat unfortunately) fits into the narrative that the games press are simply very different from their audience.

@patrickklepek:

I'm glad he continues to get mocked for his comments. His reaction after was to whine and cry, nothing else.

Deleting negative comments about a known douchebag is also incredibly cowardly and makes me rethink if I will continue subscribing to the site. (Been premium since

Month 1 of it being available.)

He deserves empathy for jerks who sent him unrealistic death threats, everything else he brought and continues to bring upon himself. I wouldn't hire him to mow my lawn let alone buy a product he had any input on.

Wow, people are still upset a full year later about a thing that a guy who they'd previously never heard of had once said regarding a policy that never actually existed in the first place. That's not sad, Patrick, it's actually kind of hilarious.

This is one of those internet blitz-burnings that especially seemed not so big a deal.

...with it.

*BOOM*

LIKE THE THING REMEMBER?!

Anyways, it always seemed like an incredibly tame comment people had problems with. Don't have internet? Want an internet-only device? Do what you gotta do to get internet. The "speaking to a friend" excuse was always silly though. Like, come on, it's twitter.

Not sure I'd want to play a game that's more reflections on this one incident. No wait, I actually really don't want to play a game that's a metaphor about this one guy's bullshit twitter drama. But if it actually looks like a good game then fine, why not.

The telling comment was that this game is about 'What happened to him' .. you were a corporate shill who went to far and were let go....Oh, i'm sorry you 'resigned' ..now your feelings have been hurt over the past year or so and your making a game about it. I'll not buy, thank you sir.

@bhhawks78: and do you think calling a guy "douchebag" is a calm, rational, and discussion-encoraging way to react to things? i swear people et so irrationally offended by not so terrible things people say.

really like to to give this a shot and very cool premise. let bygones be bygones.

I wish this website had a way to rate comments. This'd be through the roof.

I got a bad taste in my mouth from his "event". He had a point, but expressed it in the douchey-est, "let them eat cake" way possible. I don't know how I feel about him capitalizing on his new-found infamy.

Listening to the interview with no particular attachment to questions of ISP and internet service in the States or any of the Xbox One business.

This guy seems really cool, and his heart seems to be in the right place for making an interesting new experience. I'll be getting this for sure.

Say what you will, but the entire event has definitely been a sight to see. It serves as a reminder to watch what you say, and how horrible the internet can sometimes be. I do find it odd that he seemed to continue the conversation, rather than letting sleeping dogs lie. Either he wanted the publicity, or he truly wished to speak against what happened to him. No real way to know, sadly.

In the end, though, it's all about the games. Hopefully he learned a lesson in the end and comes out with something intriguing. We all make mistakes, and I'm not prepared to blacklist someone just because they've done/said something stupid once.

"It just gives you the feels" is a big turnoff, by the way. Please don't put that on the back of the box.
