Also in regards to the Martial Arts Tournament that’s a 2nd arc of DragonBall thing and that’s like mid 80s it’s we’re all of the background characters like “Pigman(literally debuts as a shape shifter who’d steal away little girls from a village to marry them...MUCH funnier in context than it reads ) “The Cat” “The other Cat” “The Turtle” and “Ass Eating Samurai” made their bones.

DBZ Kai sure moves quickly.

Its a bummer that there is another 2 week break, i hoped they would be able to keep it weekly by doing the podcast when they would both be in LA. Its the worst time! Now we need to wait two whole weeks before we can hear @danryckert and @jeff praise the one and only savior of mankind, Mr Satan.

Hell yeah! I've been waiting for the podcast to reach the appearance of King Furry for months.

The past two weeks have been among the funniest stuff in the series.

It was a delight to hear them enjoying these episodes, the last few ASG's have felt a bit ...idk if negative is the word, but slightly more tempered, and I was worried they weren't enjoying the show.

I would've thought there'd be a bigger reaction out of Gohan's new look though, I think it's very good and I really liked how they teased it in the opening during the android - cell saga, you might not even connect it at first that it's Gohan. (but idk, maybe they're at the point where they're skipping the intro and outros for all I know)

Anyway the next ASG is going to be really good, I can't wait. Too bad there's another break, but I get it.

Jeff is talking like the series is about to wrap up. I hope they'll watch the Buu saga. It's not always that great but that's where Mr. Satan truly shines.

Yes. I cannot wait for them to really get into the cell saga. All of these predictions on what is going to happen. I just wish I could see the look on their faces when it all actually pans out.

Also, hopefully they look at the episode numbers and try to fit it so they finish the saga without going straight into the next one. I think it makes the most sense to try and make that happen here more than any other saga to date.

I know I'm supposed to go through Crunchyroll, but they have to worry about their business as well and iunno, maybe even acknowledging these guys could put them on shaky terms with Toei. After finishing Kai, why not take a look at TeamFourStar's Dragon Ball Z Abridged? You seem to be on very similar wavelengths as far as DBZ is concerned, and with the watching speed you've set for yourselves it probably wouldn't take two months to go through their version of the story.

And if you're not sure, you could always try and meet them during Anime Expo, since they'll have a booth there. Who knows, maybe some of them will visit the Conga room, too.

@shota00: Poor Jeff. Having recorded at least this year a Old Tape Session where they talk about DBZ Legacy of Goku II (a game focused on the android/cell saga) and the show up to that point, spoiled Jeff for this fight. He knows pivotal moments, and he hides it pretty well for Dan's enjoyment

I haven't seen anything official about this, but a commenter on the announcement on Crunchyroll's site said that CR has a Twitch account that they (maybe? I haven't checked) streamed panels on before. So take that third or fourth-hand hearsay for what you will.

There is an absolutely miserable drawing of Goku in (I think) episode 84 that I really hope Jeff and Dan call out. I did a double take and had to rewind the scene because it was that disgusting.

Original Dragon Ball had a similar square tiled ring, so it predates most gamed.

I hope someone who isn't shrieking in all-caps about how they're watching it wrong manages to tell them that the Buu Saga is part of the original run. I think they'd love how meta and subversive on its own tropes it becomes.

Cause the way they're talking, they seem to think the "official" run ends with Cell with Jeff saying the Cell saga ending in '96 means Virtua Fighter couldn't have been influenced by it.

It is part of the original run but they are right in assuming that it should have ended here.

Vegeta was actually as powerful as Trunks. He just didn't do the thing Trunks did because he knew it would slow him down.

Considering how into the weird, goofy parts, and Mr. Satan, they're getting, I think they'd dig the saga. It's different, but there's almost no filler in the original run, so it has a better flow.

Also Android 17 and 18 are enhanced humans. They're basically cyborgs. The Japanese name for them are Jinzo Ningen, which just means artificial humans. The only real robot is Android 16.

The hyperbolic time chamber becoming fire and ice as needed isn't as much a feature as it's the animators presumably being a bit frustrated with a room that's entirely nothing. In the manga there is nothing of the sort.

Expect that from anything particularly extravagant, really. There weren't earth-shaking storms and light shows when Cell achieved his perfect form in the manga, and neither did every current power-up summon clouds and lightning. We're putting on a good show here so things look extra cool, but that does mean some consistency is lost in the process.

Sucks that the Buu arc is such a mess in Kai, with it being cropped and having crappy remastering but i still hope they cover it.

the "silver or lavender anime hair" is a weirdly big debate

I admit when I heard it brought up I was like wtf are you talking about Dan and now actually looking it up... I get it.

I mean it's still Lavender or whatever but there are some early shots that can create an honest mistake.

It's worth noting that in the manga Bulma has purple hair, which makes the connection with Trunks a bit more obvious. In the anime they made Bulma's hair a turquoise blue but kept Trunks hair the same.

The first chapters of the original Dragon Ball manga came out in 1984. The World Martial Arts Tournament first appeared in 1985 with similar ring out rules to the Cell Games. The first Virtua Fighter came out in 1993.

One of the best episodes yet! Nothing is more devastating for me now than finding out that the podcast is going on break for research :( This show is the only good thing about my mondays every week.
