A native Melbournian here. The entire of the Albert Park track was actually purpose built around the lake in time for the first Melbourne Grand Prix in 1996. Technically part of the track existed as a public road before this but was completely rebuilt. Because of this the circuit is actually very smooth, wide and a fast flowing track with plenty of run off areas despite being a public road for the rest of the year. Whilst pretty much all of the track is open to the public, it doesn't really get much use as it doesn't directly lead anywhere other then around the lake. The Victorian Government spend roughly $50+ million AUD every year running the event. Worth every cent if you ask me.

I'm hoping to go to Friday practice tomorrow but the weather isn't looking great :/ Sunday looks like it should be a sunny 24C.

As an Australian I feel obliged to say that Fosters is no longer Australian owned, made or drunk. We literally can't have less to do with that shit at this point.

@incrediho: Too right. I've grown up here for 23 years and I've never met a single person, my age or otherwise, who drinks Fosters. The only people who seem to drink Fosters are tourists. I think it might actually be more of an export thing?

The different tyrechoices between Hamilton and Rosberg is not Rosberg being more conservative, its them having different testing scheduled by Mercedes for FP1 and FP2. What tyres they will actually have left for qualifying and race remains a secret up until they show their hand in action.

I don't think anybody has said the letters I M S A and not the word "IMSA" in a long, long time, either. And Drew's confusion over "They're like an...American...Le Mans Series?" Considering that a precursor to the current IMSA series was literally called the American Le Mans Series...

The Daytona 24 was really good, and between cool cars and awesome coverage, anyone who thinks F1 is on at bad times should try to watch that as well (after they've DVR'd the F1, of course).
