I think it would be funnier if Alex always put up the newscaster label for both of them.

I don't really see an issue with a race being hard if you don't actually have a race car, lol. I also thought the shooting was fine as it was just a modified Max Payne shooting scheme. I do agree about playing for gold medals. The same thing applies with Saints Row 4...most of the challenges were nowhere near fun enough to try and get a higher score or gold medals.

I almost bought a Zelda edition WiiU but couldn't do it. With GTAV right now, 2 games out next month, and then a PS4 so close I couldn't justify spending $300 on a WiiU. I kind of want it, but I don't know. That's a lot of money for a system that will mostly only be used for 3 weeks.

Wait.. Alex? you know the ending of SoTC and how it connects Ico and SoTC alex? really? because there isn't a clear connection... Even Ueda said that the connection is not actually as simple as it seems, and that he never actually designed them as strictly connected stories, just share an universe and concepts. In any case, the story is only a very nebulous aspect of why you should play that game, it isn't designed as a classic narrative piece, in fact, it is the opposite, it is the mystery and subtlety that really deepen the experience...
Sure, Most players consider that SoTC is a prequel to Ico, since the baby in the end displays a certain -condition-, but when you play Ico, it seems clear that the main character is NOT the only one with that same condition.

Anyhow, Very frustrating when people proclaim things they don't actually get, and act as if they know... If you haven't played the game Alex, that's FINE, we won't judge you for it. Obviously, If you want to play it .. play it, it's excellent.. But DON'T make up excuses, or invent stuff, it just makes you look bad, and it's not even the first time you do it...

Wind Waker HD doesn't have an option to invert the Y axis in third-person (but it does in first person!). It is, therefore, literally Hilter.

@sydlanel: Uh, no. That wasn't what I was saying. I was just saying I had been told what the ending was and even watched it myself a couple of times. I wasn't proclaiming to have some profound understanding of the game universe. I was literally only proclaiming that I was aware what the ending was. If I came off that way, my bad?

having just got off of a vacation and having got sick on my vacation and having to return to work today while still not feeling great- I totally relate to calling this Monday "Garbage". Thank you Patrick.

Also thanks for that Oculus Rift video- as goofy as the headset looks I'll seriously be thinking about getting one of the consumer models if it turns out to be as cool as it seems.

@alex: :/ ok, ok.. sorry, I didn't mean to be too harsh. Just the game is very intentionally cryptic about its meaning.
I still think you should play some of those final sections if you want to actually understand why the game is great. It's just one of those experience things.

Anyway, good episode... get ready, winter is coming.. in just over a month now hah.

Specifically, he inputted 95,00. That's the way most of the world writes decimals, actually, but Kickstarter doesn't recognize that. Actually, there's a display bug in the confirmation when raising a pledge (but not when first starting a pledge) that displays the amount you're raising it to as whatever you put in the field, so it even showed in the confirmation as $95,00. When it went through, it suddenly became $9,500. Oops!

You guys talk about this supposed Wind Waker fan who didn't appreciate the game at the time and now has come to their senses? I'm that fan and things haven't changed. I was a hardcore Nintendo fan back in the early 2000s and was really disappointed with the art style, I still played it!.. and really enjoyed it, but its not Link, and its not a Zelda game, to me. Why they didn't just make a new IP is beyond me, but now you get all these nos-con babies so excited about an HD remake?.. I don't get it. Skyward Sword is the game I wanted them to make, shame it came after I gave up on the company.

BTW Good show guys, Steam controller looks cool.

Haven't played the HD remake. Definitely will play when it hits the plus store!

Patrick, I think you are right on top of it when you say people's opinions of Wind Waker might have changed with the HD remake. It went from being one of my lease favorite Zelda's to one of my favorites now that I've had a chance to play it again in HD fashion. There are still some parts I don't like, same as when I played it ten years ago (The wind temple, final ganon boss battle, etc.) but I have a new appreciation for it. it's overall quite excellent and I love the art style

@patrickklepek If you play Shadow Of The Collossus HD, make sure to check out the 3D if you can. It's one of the only good showings of 3D on the PS3.

Another awesome show guys, I love this. Also really stoked that Neverending Nightmares made their goal.

Yeah I feel the same as Alex about the medals thing in GTA. Right from the start those things were totally meaningless to me. I wouldn't say they detract from my experience in any way, they're just sorta there and have no bearing on anything. I have been mashing X to close the mission complete screen asap since an hour into the game. :D

edit - I am super pumped to hear the Oculus Rift is coming together. It is the most exciting new tech in video games to me since... well, I'm not even sure, maybe polygons? Part of that is that I am mega fan of driving games and it hurts me physically to play in these beautifully detailed cockpits of Forza and Gran Turismo and know that flat screens are just not capable of displaying the field of view you need to drive in the same way you would if actually seated in a car. I rarely play in cockpit view because I can't see a goddamn thing most of the time, and I do, kinda sorta, care about driving well more than I care about the aesthetics; so chase cam is default view for me. If I can turn my head into the apex of a corner, look down slightly to check the actual speedometer, look up to see the rear view mirror... that's the stuff I have wanted my entire video game playing life.

The Ico/SoTC HD package is really well done. Neither game looks dated in part due to the decisions made with the art styles of both. Frame rate was drastically improved, which is a huge boon for SoTC in particular.

I think with Wind Waker, I replayed the game every few years and always loved it (despite the flaws and few spots where it is obvious they cut content), but really I think once the speedrunning scene for the game picked up and started evolving rapidly in 2012 is when people really started looking back and loving on a big scale, and I feel like Wind Waker HD is riding off that wind (hah!) really well and it will be the first thing I play when I get a Wii U.

Did Patrick really just complain that a medal system implemented to give some replay value to people who want to replay missions was a bad thing because a small fraction of players will be bothered by not getting gold on their first run..... Come on Patrick, that's just reaching for straws to say something negative about the game.

@mdmac92: I think it's a valid criticism. Most people will have no intention of replaying missions to meet those arbitrary/secret goals, and while it's cool to have a challenge mode, the vast majority of players will just be getting bronzes throughout their play through. At best, it's poor presentation, and at worst, it encourages the more OCD among us to rush through levels, or alter their play styles as they try to guess what the parameters for 'full synch' might be.

For me, it's GTA, not Dark Souls. The driving and shooting mechanics are not that great to begin with. I want to poke and prod at its open world jank, so when I finish a mission, it really does irk me that the game essentially says 'yeah... that thing you just thought you really enjoyed... we'll give you a C- for that.'

It's because you're suggesting just because something is optional, it doesn't matter if it's poorly implemented or doesn't work right because you don't have to do it anyway.

Either don't bother to put it in there or make it work well. If you don't, then you can expect criticism and rightfully so.

They should have just used a system where the stuff you did matter, the choices you made matter, things play out differently, or you have some challenge to do it in a interesting or whacky fashion.

But it never amounts to more than doing the mission without reloading a checkpoint or beating it under a certain time. Then there are the dumb things of 'don't hit anything in this 15 minute drive'. Challenging, sure. But not fun or imaginative in any way.

It's a problem that GTA has had the past couple of games. They just try to make things 'realistic' in whatever their interpretation of realism is (flying helicopters in that game properly is far from realistic), instead of going for fun and interesting ways; too often. These medals are exactly that. A borefest.

I don't see a problem with how Steam announced everything. I mean, it was an announcement...they announced information. If they want my money, they'll have to *announce* much more information then they currently have....but they're not even selling anything at this point.

I'm one of those people that enjoys going for optional objectives on my first try through a mission. Since I'm not a competitionist, my first time through is the only time I will give it a shot. The way it's currently implemented, it's useless.

Optional is no excuse for being poor. GTAV is a great game I think. Really great actually, but there is plenty of negative things to say about it. No need to reach. It's far from perfect.
