Brad is such a stubborn player. There is an incredibly easy cheese strategy for this boss. Bone marrow ash and just gun him down from a distance, making blood bullets when you run out. I did this with a +9 Evelyn easily.

Watching you guys play this game is what made me decide to give Dark Souls another chance and now I have 150 hours in it. Help.

Don't forget to do the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. It's the best content in DS1.

hopefully we can keep the user response at this level of civility. just a little incensed at brad's amount of you're-doing-it-wrong, but still appreciation and happiness that he's doing this in the first place.

in other news i should go back to this and actually get past the cleric beast...

Happy to finally see Breaking Brad make a return, since I've really missed a Brad centred premium feature.

Honestly don't think the first boss is that tough, took me 5 or 6 tries to kill him, but oh well, I'm already wondering how Brad'll do on the last boss.

I luv Bloodborne!!!! :) I'm lucky enough to be able to afford an PC, PS4, XBone WiiU YAY!!!!

Unfortunately not every one (Gamer!) is though :(

Lets rally together as gamers FIRST and competetive console fanboys second :) afterall we are all GAMERS first.

Lets stop the exclusives. RotT, Bloodborne, Street Fighter V..... etc etc....

We exist in a world of free speech so use that right if you will and rate down my comment :) I just think fairness to every gamer is important. we all want quality, and we all want the best experiences for what we can afford and be fortunate enough to own/play :)

PEACE...

Guess everyone is different because I didn't have much trouble with the dog. My biggest obstacles to the plat were both versions of the Bloodletting Beast and that Abhorrent Beast guy. If you can beat the Abhorrent Beast without cheesing him at least a little bit with poison knives, I salute you.

Hitting the dog on the head enough times will stagger him for a visceral attack. I had a lot of trouble with this dog, but finally beating him felt awesome.

Starting around the 8th fixed chalice dungeon, I just started using my insight on blue elixirs and stealthing my way to the switch and boss. Once I realized I didn't need any more materials, that is.

Hope Brad keeps at it. I'm on the exact same trophy just slightly past where he is at. Surprisingly I didn't have too much trouble and beat the dog on my 4th or 5th try so with persistence and strategy it is possible. A lot of people complain about Brad's play style (I find myself pulling my hair out at times as well), but all in all it makes for some good content. Stay the course Brad. You got this.

Honestly, I found the Watchdog piss easy compared to Amygdala. If you just stay patient and hit him in the head, there's very little he can do.

Watching this live made me pick the game back up to work out these final chalice dungeons on the road to platinum and the Defiled dungeon is more of a dick than everything in the dungeons but the Bloodletting Beast. Chalice dungeons have saved the game for me, if it had come without them or if they had been pay-DLC BB would have been a game that was absolutely phenomenal in all ways but playtime and replay-value.

Once I have the platinum I know I will continue my trek down there until I've unlocked every type of dungeon there is, then do it all over with new characters, trying for as much time in the dungeons as possible.

(Rooftop Wizard and Queen SpaceSlug are still the worst overworld bosses though)

-----

Addition 1: Alright, the 50% Health Hotdog I completed by not rushing it, trying to stick close and hit the head with jumping R2 then heading back again, over and over. Used one blood vial for its last 50% after figuring that trick out. What a rush. Once the third boss of Defiled is met I will be ready with a simple helpful tip in chat if I'm watching at the time, how easy it was once figured out.

Addition 2: Another addendum: If you need Blood(5), remember Ailing Loran first floor. Was up until four in the morning, two bosses left and I'm all done and plat. Now that I'm seeing things from the perspective of feeling great after I figured the trick out I love it again, less frustration.

Final addition: Just completed and became part of the 4.5% to go platinum it. Good luck Brad!

I just got the platinum and the defiled watchdog was the hardest boss of the game for me. Took me around 35 attempts. Good luck.

This video inspired me to go for the platinum.

Seconding everyone on the Watchdog in Defiled Chalice. Every 3rd thing he does is a 1-shot, so it requires an incredible degree of mastery to take down that boss. When I finally won, I hardly used any blood vials. Fight unlocked, continually bait the standard bite, and punish it however you want (I rolled forward through the chomp and hit its legs with the Kirkhammer's horizontal swipe). Equip for fire defense. Bolt paper is effective. GOOD MF'ing LUCK.

Amygdala is slightly less of a pain, but still a pain. The Keeper of the Old Lords is a fun one though. I ended up using parries & stunlock combos in an aggressive frenzy, especially when he tries to buff his sword.

I didn't watch the full video, so I wonder if Brad has the Living String in his inventory, necessary for the final Chalice. I practically had to do an NG+ speed run when I realized I missed it.

Brad,

I just beat the Watchdog last night. I tried baiting the head swipe attacks, but kept taking hits and ran out of vials halfway through the fight. So I adopted a different, rather conservative strategy.

  1. Every attack was to his left forearm, which is to the player's right. Once it breaks, a single hit can do significant damage.
  2. I kept as much distance as possible. He closes in fast, but this allowed me to avoid his AOE attack and all short ranged melee. If he came close enough to do a head swipe from my right to my left I would get an attack in on his leg, but I wouldn't be greedy about it.
  3. I could also safely predict his charge attack, and once you can do that you can bait the attack and easily step to the side. He spends a few moments unwinding, and if you've kept your distance then he should finish his charge in perfect range for you to attack the leg.
  4. Also get several hits in when he's retching up lava, obviously.

Don't get greedy. Get in one or two hits at a time and back off, especially since he likes to stomp you when you're at his feet. But if you have the patience for it, I tried this and didn't take a single hit. This, after having previously broken myself against this boss over and over again.

This game is amazing because the fire dog was pretty much the only Chalice boss in the home stretch for the plat that I beat on my first try. Struggled way more with other bosses everyone else said were easy. Made me feel like I'm the only one who stuck with the threaded cane for the whole game.

@brad@unastrike Fantastic video series. It might actually inspire me to get back into the chalice dungeons. One suggestion for Brad though: be willing to swap out all your gear.

Whenever I go into a fight or an area where I know there's gonna be a lot of fire, poison, arcane, bolt, etc. damage, I hop into my inventory, press square, then super quickly scan every piece of armor for whichever stat I'm looking for, pick whichever is highest, then move on to the next armor piece. It can make a huge difference. Here, I don't know what the best fire set is, but maybe the Charred Hunter's set? I think there might be one better, but I don't remember.

I rarely swap out my weapon, but if I know a particular boss has a weapon, like Rom to bolt damage, or if my weapon feels like it's doing peanuts for damage, then I'll go back to the Hunter's Dream and swap out my blood gem thingies to another weapon. Maybe you should try the Cannon? I haven't used it, but I hear it murders bosses.

This first boss showcases my problem with the souls games perfectly.. he uses so much bolt paper and it's wasted and lost forever every time he dies.. that sucks. consumables should be limited per life , but unlimited overall. The souls games have a huge "too good to use" problem

It's a bit late to comment, but @jason, how do you figure that parrying is easier in the Souls games? If you miss the *tiny* window, you get hit, period. In Bloodborne, if the enemy is stagger-able they will be interrupted and you'll at least not take a hit if you miss the timing, and you even do damage. I also like the tension of it being a limited resource and one that can reward success (with the various healing/bullet restoring runes for successful viscerals).

It's a bit late to answer this, but I figure he means the window is more generous. It's more dangerous to parry in Dark Souls, but it's a lot more clear when you can and how you can, whereas in Bloodborne, it's a lot of trial-and-error AND, since it's a ranged attack, you can fall into trying to charge in for a visceral attack, only to have them recover and hit you before you get up there.

I love this game with all my heart but I'm starting to realize that I'm not even going to get past Cainhurst without derailing my life (I suck at games, in case that's not obvious).

So screw it, time to just watch this feature!
