18 hours, whew. I saw someone say 60 and that seemed like too much. Sold!

Jeff should absolutely play Binding of Isaac. They've added so much that it's become one of the deepest roguelikes out there. Probably worth asking Patrick about it since he had a feature on this site years and years ago. Worth a look as a historical curiosity on a UPF, at least!

Update: This game's amazing! One of the best I've played this year.

I was already interested by trailers but seeing that it's more AC/Stardew management makes up for the combat being a bit lighter than I was hoping. Thanks y'all!

something about the cutesy cult aesthetic really rubs me the wrong way. I probably would have been really into this game otherwise

I really wish Jess spent more time explaining how some of the management systems actually worked. There was a lot of "you can do x" without explaining the "why". Patrick went a bit more into it on this weeks Waypoint and after listening to that I'm definitely going to pick it up. Excited for something new and neat to play!

Seems like a well put together game, but I'm going to pass. For one, I'm kind of burned out on Rouge-likes at the moment, with the exception possibly being Returnal. And call me a "lame" but I like playing games where I fight against evil cultist, not play as its leader. Sign of the times I guess.

Hey guys, just wanted to provide some feedback. Please don't take it the wrong way and I hope you'll see it as constructive.

I think more time can be spent explaining the actual gameplay loop, i.e. why are you doing the things you are doing? What does that feed into? What currency do you gain and what is that used for? What is the eventual goal, and how do you get there? How do you gain quests and what are its rewards? A lot was shown about what you can do, but without much context as to what aspects of gameplay it affects. For example, why would you murder someone? What would it accomplish? There was a sermon held, but when/why is it held? I knew nothing about the game before this QL and hoped to be more informed, but after over 10 minutes of the video I'm still not sure what the gameplay loop is. I'll probably listen to other podcasts to get a better feel.

I had a similar feeling after the Two Point Campus QL, where I saw the different campus styles, but don't know how they differ on a gameplay level (assuming they do?).

Again, please don't take the wrong way! This is genuine feedback because I care. Thank you for everything :)

I've heard menus often run weird because the framerate is totally unlocked on those screen, so your system tries to run it at like hundreds of FPS.

I was 50-50 on whether to get this game, but the QL sold me on it. I especially appreciate that it wasn’t the first hour-ish of the game and that Jess had already beaten it before the video. Seems like the game is respectful of your time, a big factor for me.

@bluepenguin: Yeah, this was a point of confusion for me as well. Some gameplay is more self-evident than others, but management sims/base-building games usually have too many moving parts to understand at a glance, so I would also appreciate it if QLs could more directly explain the ABCs of those types of game.

Everyone used to complain about Brad starting Quick Looks by being in the menus for 15 minutes, but sometimes games just have that many menus and they help explain the game.

I’ve spent 4ish hours with COTL so far and am really enjoying it but it does seem to have some pacing issues for those who aren’t good at the combat. My wife bought it on her Switch, she doesn’t play a ton of action games so the combat has been tricky for her.

If you don’t beat the first boss within the first few in-game days you can get stuck in a loop of needing resources and being unable to get them. When you reach the “perform a ritual” tutorial quest, you can’t leave to go on runs anymore. My wife had already performed a ritual before the quest popped up, so was stuck for 3-4 in-game days waiting for its cooldown while slowly hemorrhaging followers and resources.

Big "Adventure Time" vibes from this, and at the moment that's exactly what I'm looking for.

And I think people don't give Neon White credit for how self-aware it is in terms of the story and writing.
