I honestly think this looks pretty cool. Granted, I haven't played the first two games, so take that as you will.

Man, I absolutely loved the first game and that ending had me so excited for a sequel. When Darksiders 2 was announced to take place at the same time as the first game I was super bummed but I still enjoyed the game. When this one was announced I wasn't even really hyped for it, its just a bummer that we never really got the payoff to one of the best endings.

I don't love these games. I played them when they became remasters, and not when they launched either. I liked them fine, and even read the one comic to get more of the story. I think they're well made, but two (despite thinking that it in many ways is better than the first) was quite boring and I found it hard to want to get through. It took me about a year to complete it think. I love the voice work and I am somewhat interested in the story/characters.

I also think the Zelda/God of War style was good. Three seemed like a game that, while not at all my most anticipated game, would be one that I'd play. The fact that I didn't love the first two, was only marginally excited about three and now some poor reviews, it's kind of holding me back. I might get it when it's cheap though just to finish it off. It certainly doesn't look bad from what I've seen.

Does this have the horrible loot system of the second game?

The first two games were incredible, especially 2 IMO. On one hand i'm glad they kept the series going, but on the other hand you can tell the original team isn't doing it and it shows in the intangibles.

This looks cool, but nothing mind blowing. If it wasn't Darksiders I'd pass... I have a billion other games to play. But I'll probably pick this up over the holidays.

With the game changing to Souls-like and doing away completely with the horsemen protags... I really wonder if this was originally a game completely unrelated to Darksiders that got mashed into the series in order to trade off of the established franchise name? (I'm probably wrong)

Changing the gameplay was a thing between the previous Darksiders games as well. While D1 was a mix of God of War and Zelda, D2 had coloured, Diablo style loot and Prince of Persia style traversal. Changing it again seems par for the course.

As for doing away with the Horseman protagonist, it hasn´t. Fury is one of the 4 Horsemen and has existed along with the last Horseman Strife in concept art since the beginning as far as I know (both of their names are different from the bibical Horsemen Pestilence/Conquest and Famine, and have been since Darksiders 1).

Honestly if I watched this on mute I'd probably buy it right now, looks awesome! Seeing it get mediocre reception will mean its a cheepie next year so I guess i'll wait, after all we did have God of War this year for the genre, but I think this looks really fun. Jason bringing the bummer vibes today

so in the proud Darksiders tradition of borrowing ideas from other games this one is a Dark Souls game with a League of Legends character with an Ivy sword

From a level design and mechanics perspective this looks like a PS2 game, not in a great throwback way but in an outdated way. If it didn't have the Darksiders name this could have been a 360 launch title. It's a shame this game is so basic.

That looks very much like what I would expect from a Darksiders game. All the hate it's getting is a bit baffling.

The game seems decent, not a AAA blockbuster but a decent game nonetheless. And the way he allocates his skill points literally drives me bonkers, don't think you're supposed to min/max them like that.....

@oursin_360: As far as I know, Gunfire Games is largely made up of ex-Vigil people who got laid off when THQ died. That's why this game exists, to some extent.

This looks like.....a Darksiders game? I don't get where all the intense negativity is coming from since they all loved the original. Seems to me like they all just romanticized the memory of the first game but actually would have many of the same problems they do with 3 if they went back.

What's funny to me is that almost all the criticism I've heard leveled at this game mirrors the feelings I had towards the first one when I played it for the first time earlier this year. I guess there's a collective rose tinted look back on the first Darksiders.

Safe to say that I'm not a fan, but it's amusing to see how this has turned out.

If Jeff thinks this looks boring, i feel like he would feel the same regarding to the first darksiders. That game had a cool story happening with all it's angels & demons fighting among highways & cars, but the platforming & puzzling was pretty much the same thing as i see here. You activate glyphs to open doors. sometimes with a melee attack, sometimes with a throwable and sometimes with bombs. Sometimes timing comes into play. It lacks the wall running though.

This definitly doesn't look like a game that pushes any envelopes in 2018 and sadly it seems like it still doesn't give the thing people want from the ending of Darksiders 1, but it seems like a solid 7/10 'one of those'.

expectations have not been exceeded seems like an odd criticism to give a Darksiders game...
