Unfinished: Deathloop (08/27/2021)

Okay this looks pretty rad. The trailers were stylish but I didn‘t expect something that looks this fresh.

I read an article about this game in EDGE, and to answer question Jeff had: yes, you will fight Harriet again. When the loop restarts, all the Visionaries will be alive again. What is very nice is, when you kill Harriet AGAIN you get an upgraded version of her power. So if you like one specific power, you will need to find a way to easily kill the boss that has it.

And yes, the end goal is a one clean run where you kill all of the bosses in one day. But that probably takes a lot of work and understanding of the maps.

Was this just cut out of the UPF?

This has to be one of the freshest ideas in this type of run-based format in a while. Love it.

Is this just a podcast clip with gameplay under it? Weird.

Just looking at the game, it looks like Arkane made another one. Same but slightly different, with non-linear level progression.

The structure reminds me of Wolfenstein Youngblood, but replaying Dishonored to get new abilities and perks.

`Once I learned stealth was in this and people said it's more like dishonored with progression and stuff, I was more into it than ever before. It's right up my alley but I think it will rub people the wrong way if they can't go in guns blazing. I need a new stealth game like I need a splinter cell...a lot.

As someone who has replayed both Dishonoreds and their expansions close to ten times each in every stealth/action lethal/non-lethal variation possible (including no-powers, main targets only etc etc) all I can say is: I better be able to get my hands on a PS5 soon.

Thankfully I can still get it on PC, which honestly is the better way to play these games because of load times and my personal habit of constant quick saving every 3 steps.

@humanity: Deathloop doesn't have quick save.

Can't wait for this game to come out so I can stop seeing ads for it everywhere and having it be featured in every press release stream. Game looks cool, definitely going to check it out, but man has it been annoying having it shoved in all of our faces nonstop for over a year.

Ok this actually makes me excited. For some reason I thought this was primarily a multiplayer game with some of their early trailers, so I wasn't interested. Then I thought the timeloop thing was being overdone lately, but looks like there is still a lot of potential with that concept. Thanks for the unfinished video!

@eccentrix: No, they directly refer to things in the gameplay while they're talking over it.

So this is the new normal? Cutting out content from premium shows and slapping it on the website and youtube for free? Knock yourself out but it seems the value of a sub lessens every day. Not enough time in the week to dedicate resources to a regular quick look I guess.

Yeah, very odd decision to have this in UPF and standalone clip. Doesn't seem like UPF material so not sure why include there. Makes sense as preview. In which case, it's nice to have the crew comment over. Missed videos like this for a while, though I wish they gave more to work with like the Returnal preview which was like 40 minutes. I'm still skeptical of the game. It's very loud in its presentation which I find kind of grating. There is a lot of detailed art but it's just, as the kids say, a little too "extra". Will wait for reviews.

@otterchaos: Jeff G and Jason have been moving, Jan's busy with editing their new shows, and Jeff B is busy overseeing Giant Bomb and GameSpot, (edit: and Rorie is busy doing Rorie support things), so that seems to leave little time to do Quick Looks. Maybe once things settle down and perhaps they can hire a new full-time, on-screen personality, they can get back to posting gameplay videos again.

Only 1080p on PS5? Yikes.

Sounds like that excellent Prey: Mooncrash DLC! I was already excited as hell, but this is good to hear :)

Perhaps all that will happen but in the mean time my sub continues to run along until it ends next April and all I've heard since May is "Give them time". I am losing interest in the website generally anyway but seeing all these "life circumstances" excuses for lack of actual gaming content makes little sense to me as they are still happy to take my money. And now programs that subs paid to get access to are being harvested for youtube and free views on the main site.

I'd say I'm gone in April when my annual sub won't renew but really what would I be missing by not paying? Precious little at the moment and I'm willing to bet that will remain the same in April.

Is "deathloop" a mega-man-lite?

This seems to be fairly similar to Sexy Brutale in how it handles the world being a timeloop, while still making you feel like you see new content with every run. In Sexy Brutale you select a target and then enter the general play area of that target. You will still get to experience the overall timeloop, with all it's sound & visual cues that let you know that other stuff is happening at the same time, but you're locked into a targets area. Just like Deathloop, you're often spending the first loops figuring out what the options are, only to come back to it afterwards to execute on your ideas. Once you're done, you select a new target and move towards the general area of the world where they reside.

It's honestly not all that much different from an oldschool level select, except that the devs get to be more creative about the state of the world and the idea that you can learn all kinds of things about a world and it's target before you decide to execute a plan.

I will say, that whole thing where you are hunting targets while being hunted by a real player... Is that a seperate mode? Taken out of the game entirely?

@haneybd87: no they just captured it in 1080p, it has higher resolutions when playing the game, 4K etc obviously

@eccentrix They have done this with unfinished's before as many times they are running a demo and adding their narration after the fact.

@sammo21: Usually the narration is bespoke for the Unfinished, though, not cut out of something else. I didn't watch enough of it to realise it was more than just a section of the Bombcast where they talk about the game with accompanying gameplay footage. I was just confused without an explanation of what the video was in the dek or the video itself.

@eccentrix: They have done this a couple of time. I know a couple of quick looks have come out of UPFs or other larger shows before. With how everything is remote the difference between a Bombcast, UPF, etc are thin to me these days. I definitely agree it could have been done better for a full video release...maybe have Jeff B state, "Hey, this is an unfinished that was done during the most recent x".

Who's the guy in the lower right? Hes not listed on the video credits. I dont watch premium stuff anymore. So many new faces, people not together in office (I know thats a covid thing but they are all over the country now too). it doesn't feel like GB anymore.
