"Die" is singular. "Dice" is plural.

This does look like a fun little game. Certainly looks like a game I might enjoy.

This has come a long way since the itch.io demo Terry Cavanagh had out. It was really fun then, this looks even better.

Alex. Any time a millennial asks you who Charles Nelson Reilly is, you seem need to respond,

"Epaulets" is one of those words I realized I didn't know how to pronounce and looked up immediately after Alex said it

Charles Nelson Reilly, he's our man

he can't heal heal the sick with a touch of his hand

he can't walk on water, can't make wine flow

just another B actor on the late late show

Not sure they mention on quick look but this is by Terry Cavanagh, creator of Super Hexagon and VVVVVV.

At this point, I've given up any hope of a VVVVVV sequel but this at least seems pretty cool.

I've played a few hours, and this game is incredibly well designed and has a great aesthetic. I would highly recommend giving this game a shot even if you've bounced off of other "deck builders" (which has joined "auto chess" as the hot new genre of 2019).

@the_ruiner: Now I know who Charles Nelson Reilly is.

Also, it's mildly frustrating to hear people calling deckbuilders a new genre. Roguelike deckbuilders maybe, but there are sooo many good deckbuilders from the last 10 years or so on the boardgame side of things.

I ate the Bear Potion as a Thief, and stayed a bear for the rest of the run. They get different attacks and everything. Can't buy items though.

Really liking what I've played of this game so far, glad to see other folks in the comments also enjoying it.

Reminds me of Tharsis, the space cannibalism dice game.

Very opposite aesthetics, haha, but yeah I really like Tharsis as well. Although Tharsis I've only won like twice ever, and this game I bought last night and was able to beat the first two character routes, so this is at least a little easier and less depressing than Tharsis :)

Also, it's mildly frustrating to hear people calling deckbuilders a new genre. Roguelike deckbuilders maybe, but there are sooo many good deckbuilders from the last 10 years or so on the boardgame side of things.

I definitely get where you are coming from (Dominion came out like, what, a decade ago?), but hey, not everyone is gonna be aware of these influences from other mediums. And hey, maybe these deckbuilder-esque video games will get more people into board games! (Check out Paperback everyone, it's a deckbuilder/word game with cool art!)

I say this as a huge GB fan and subscriber but maybe we can just silently have the assumption every game that is any good would also be good on the Switch (I don't actually believe that but...). Then it doesn't have to be said every other quick look. I have not heard the sentiment said on on other websites but seems to be the motto of GBE... Please?

@crazy_tinker: They're 100% aware of that criticism and have even mentioned on the Beastcast how ridiculous it is to say "This would be good on Switch" for everything.

The audiovisual pizzaz on this one is entire PARSECS ahead of Slay the Spire. The animation alone rocks.

Agreed on both counts. The art in Dicey Dungeons is cheeky and fun, and the music has that solid pep that I associate with most of Terry Cavanagh's other work.

Also, if I may drag Slay the Spire a bit, it is incredibly well designed, but has by far my least favourite visual style ever. You know how some games have boring soundtracks, so you just turn them off and turn on your own music and podcasts? I wish I could do the same for my eyeballs and just turn off all the Slay the Spire art. The enemy designs are so terrible!

I'm reminded of One Deck Dungeon in a way that makes me very much want to play this, and be afraid that it would INFUUUUUUUUURIATE me in the same way all games based around rolling dice eventually do.

Agreed in a way I could never quite put into words. I want to enjoy that game more than I do, but I feel like the lack of visual, and narrative, flair contributes to the game feeling INCREDIBLY dull to restart.

Wow what a great game. Love the aesthetics, love how wildly the characters change, love the upgrade systems. It all seems to be done so well! The one thing i can see dampening the fun is that hitting the boss (there's only 1? ) doesn't take too long. Still gives the game 6 playthroughs though.
