The host guy is hilarious on the Soup and had a few good lines during the press conference, but he was a really dumb choice for an event like this.  He deals in fucking snark; he specializes in making fun of people and things.  Why on earth would somebody think that it is a good idea to put a person like that effectively in charge of making your products look good, especially when you have shit like Battle Tag?

Joel Mchale was a poor choice for this confrence, I love him on the Soup, but here all his stuff seems forced and planned.

The host is an irritating twat !
I enjoyed the GRAW games and this looks good but the invisible feature is stupid, its overdone to the point where the AI cannot see them from 2 feet away. Hope this is not going to be Ghost Recon : Splinter Cell.

I watched the whole conferance and there were points where his jokes were funny but for the most part you just wanted him to shut up because he got annoying. Like, relentless crappy amount of jokes annoying.

Joel McHale doesn't really give a shit about this game.

Looks really good though, love the visual design. It also looks like they could be following that "every room a sandbox" philosophy that they had in Conviction. It seemed like there was a lot of choices on how to approach that particular mission.

He's just supposed to make the creators and other's feel more comfortable on stage and ask some of the right questions - probably less there for the audience and just for benefit of the people coming on stage.

So Splinter Cell is no longer Splinter Cell, but Ghost Recon is now like the old Splinter Cell. So what game will become the old Ghost Recon?

If you, as the player, has active camo, and they know you are coming, why would the enemy not have thermal sights on their guns?  You'd think that in a world of active camo, thermal optics or heartbeat monitors or whatever would be standard issue.

That being said, it looks pretty fun!

I think that can be said of the whole demo. Why not give them plasma casters while you're making them invisible?

I felt bad for Joel McHale while watching this press conference. He's a great guy to watch, but being forced to act like you give a crap about most of the Ubi stuff must be absolutely painful.

That said, I actually thought the game looked alright, even with the willing suspension of disbelief being so mandatory.

So you can: stick to cover, regen health (probably?), see enemies through walls and you're invisible.  Sounds challenging.

If this trend continues all you're left with is just a cutscene.  There was barely any game at all in this demo.

Perhaps their scenario would be that most enemy factions are unaware of the camo technology, and as the story progresses they will start to try and counter this later on with thermal optics and heartbeat monitors like you stated.  That would allow the developers to make the player feel powerful at the start, and enjoy a few missions where he/she calls the shots, then later challenge them with scenarios that get them out of their comfort zones.

IN GENERAL: This is looking to become a really promising game should they stick to Recon instead of action.  If you want run and gun action, a game with the word RECON on it should hint to you that it will not be the case.  Sure there will be action, but the best part (at least to me) about Ghost Recon games is about the element of surprise and the ability to move around the field in deadly silence, and only fire if necessary.

@ShiftyMagician: So the player becomes LESS powerful as the experience progresses?  Seems weird.  It seems more satisfying if that as the player progresses, so does the enemy.  But, that being said, it still looks pretty fun.  I like set pieces and this looks very much oriented in that direction.

Oh no, this doesn't mean that abilities are taken away from the player.  What this means that thoughout the game, that they would hopefully make the player adapt to the enemy's growing awareness to your abilities, and would have to prioritise certain targets, or compromise by taking care of a situation in a more delicate manner. Of course what I would like to also see is the ghosts also getting new technology as the game progresses after being challenged, as a sign that the military is also aware of the situation, and providing new prototype gear.

Of course this is a mechanic that I hope they implement, but the basic idea is not to weaken the player, but to make the enemy intelligently aware of what the ghosts are capable of, and attempting to out-think you, but not in a way that would make the game inaccessible to the usual gamer.

Yea I saw that.  Seems like it is inconsistent, and that also it is probably due to the bullet effects accidently thinking that the cover was destructible, and thus going through.  It works as intended on the destructible ones from what I saw.  Hopefully they fix this.

Maybe there will be a harder, more realistic PC port as was the case with Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. This thing at least seems to have improved on the "shoot in the red diamond's general direction for insta-kill" thing that the console versions of GRAW had going on (at least as far as the singleplayer went, I can't make a qualified comment on the multiplayer part, since I didn't spend much time with it).

lol yeah Paulishere, I was thinking the exact same thing.  Joel McHale most likely doesn't give a shit about any of these games and the Ubisoft press conference lineup is just pathetic for the most part

Fucking awesome. Been waiting for another Ghost Recon. Giving me a Ghost In The Shell kinda vibe here, except for the whole "cybernetic body" part in GitS. Makes it even more awesome that the Ghosts are more like Section 9 than ever.
