Having never beaten Chrono Trigger, I really hope ignoring the ladies doesn't come back to bite you guys in the ass. I'd be equipping them with stuff to be safe

The funny part to me was a big complaint before they started that Patrick would remember everything from the game from when he played it years ago and now a big complaint is that he can't remember what happened 10 minutes ago.

Haha, nice.

Is Patrick hellbent on making each episode last no more than 30-35 minutes?

God. Was anyone else clinching their buttcheeks when they where debating on selling their red vest? It might no be a red mail, but it is certainly helpful against a certain fire slinging boss, guarding a certain stone. I cant remember if he was a part of the main story or a side quest. If he is a side quest then chances are they wont even fight him anyway.

The guys are using the same team I used until I got the last member of the party, which meant bye bye Robo... I mean Bobo.

That's because they did all of this week's episodes last week. So they probably did a few days of playing 2-3 hours and have split them up into 30 minute chunks. Patrick is just making sure they keep to their time schedule of dividing up the episodes.

As for people complaining about the way they play, yeah, get over it. I've watched people stream tons of games on JustinTV/TwitchTV and there's ALWAYS that one guy in Chat who's like, "Do this that way! No, go back and do this! Don't do that!", and it's dumb. Let people play games how they want to play it, if you don't like it, don't watch it, you're just making yourself frustrated and more often than not the person who's playing doesn't care what you think.

That boss battle reminded me of the one where you have to kill both enemies around the same time or they just keep reviving. I'm not looking forward to that, it pissed me off so much I don't know if I can relive it. Ok, yes I can and I want to see they're reaction.

I just beat this game for the first time without ever getting the Chrono Trigger item. You who have beaten this game can figure out what that means

Was wondering the same, i loved the extra-long episodes of the persona 4 run.

"Usually the time to do stuff like that [side quests] is when you're like, hey, I'm about to beat this game."

What? Who does that? Why would you wait till the very end of a game then go back and do all the side quests right before finishing? Side quests are for getting loot, gaining exp, discovering cool/useful stuff. If you wait till the end, what's the point? You might as well not even bother.

Let's pretend you do that and find some awesome sword, or a new party member, now what? You get them for the last boss fight and nothing else.

That's just crazy talk.

My only complaint is Patrick being so anal about how long these run. It gives the impression he doesn't want to be there.

Maybe he doesn't, and that's fine, but knowing about it makes the vids less enjoyable. Hell, just hearing "what's our time at" six times a video ruins it.

Let it run a little long sometimes, cut it a bit short others. Just go with what feels right at the time. With the Persona run, sometimes it'd be more than an hour, sometimes it'd be a half. Whatever. It helped with the escapism of watching.

Other than that I'm loving these. More than I thought I would. I hate jRPGs. Despise them. They are, to me, one of the worst genres. Give me a western RPG, a Morrowind or a Witcher, any day. But this I enjoy watching. There is a certain charm to these very old jRPGs the new ones lack.

Shit...you guys have reached the point where I stopped playing the DS version. Like, my party sucked when I went up to Mt. Woe, and the boss kept killing me. Didn't feel like grinding, so I stopped. Guess I can just watch you guys finish it now, then look up all the endings online.

@thebigJ_A: There are some really amazing JRPGs out there, probably my favourite genre. It's just most of them have moved to portables these days. Can find some really great updates/ports as well as new stuff on the PSP (and the DS in some cases)

I imagine Patrick keeps checking the time this week because they more then likely recorded all this weeks episodes in one sitting. Seeing as no one is actually in the office this week.

@thebigJ_A: Voice acting and modern graphics killed the JRPG. When it was top down 2d sprites the characters didn't look stupid, and annoying characters are much less annoying when it's just text.

Normally I'd agree with you, but in Chrono Trigger you're expected to save all those side quests till the very end. In fact, most of them aren't even accesible until you get the flying 2poch (I think the one in the desert might be the only one) -- at which point you're literally at the end of the main story if you think you can take on Lavos.

Also, unlike in most JRPGs, making it all the way to the final boss doesn't neccesarily mean you'll beat it. In order to prevent the player from beating it prematurely, it has very specific stat requirements. If you're even the slightest bit below it, you should expect the boss to take out your entire party in a single attack, and you'll be casting Lifeline (auto-revive) on your party constantly and never going over 100 HP because there's just no point to it. It's doable, but it's not meant to be done, and I honestly can't see Ryan and Patrick pulling it off unless they're determined and receive outside help. Meanwhile, if you just do all the side quests (not even including the optional dungeon), you should do just fine.

So in short, yeah, if you do the side quests you'll only get to use the most powerful equipment in the game against the final boss and the optional dungeon (which, in true JRPG fashion, must be completed before the final boss but has more difficult bosses), but they're kind of a neccesity. And let's not forget how Chrono Trigger has one of the craziest New Game+ implementations of all time. You'll get plenty of chances to use that stuff on subsequent runs.

I love how an offhand remark from Belthasar referencing that Magus summoned Lavos in 600 AD got them completely sidetracked because they thought that was where they were meant to go next. Like, yep, just totally forget that the whole purpose of getting the time machine was because the one time gate to 12,000 BC was locked and you need an alternate way to get there.

Also, it's great that Ryan always calls him "the Magus", as if its a title.

Oh, hey look at that. They did the exact same thing I did and got sidetracked in the 600 era. I wonder how the desert would have treated them? That place was no joke, though mostly because I was under-leveled. But I didn't die and made it out with a pretty strong new suit of armor though. So worth it!
