Endurance Run

Endurance Run: Persona 4 - Part 26

I've got a great idea! Let's go back into the castle.

Vinny and Jeff sit down and take a crack at the latest game in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Will they make it through the entire game?

Like has been said, be VERY CAREFUL if you're going up against the "powerful dungeon" boss. He has a few weak moves, Red Wall (which is weird since he drains fire anyway)... and a physical which hits everyone and does MASSIVE damage. We're talking over 100 dmg per hit. And can hit up to 3 times per person. Yeah. Methods for beating it generally involve either reloading until he doesn't kill you before you kill him (hahaha... unlikely), using Slime (who resists physical)... or coming back in 10 or so levels. He gives a boost to Courage and the room contains one of the best (in terms of extra effects) weapons for Yukiko... but we're not here to see a perfect run, so it's really up to you guys what you choose (assuming this even gets to you guys in time >.>)

I agree with everyone else, you should probably spend the next little while working on your S.Links/raising stats at aiya's on rainy days since with higher S Links you get better personas once you fuse them. Also a randomly fun thing I found to do on days with nothing to do is to go into the tv, record all your personas in the compendium and just go on a fusing spree, and since youre in the tv anyways you can go into weaker dungeons and farm personas to just fuse together for random personas

Oh god, I hope you guys don't try to fight the optional boss on tomorrow's episode because he will destroy you. Also, you really shouldn't bother grinding in the TV until the next dungeon becomes available. Spend the time raising Social Links and stats instead.

Also, in my opinion Yukiko is probably the most useful party member in the whole game. She's the best healer of anybody by far, and because her Magic stat is really high she'll do great damage with her fire spells. Everybody has a slightly different play style though, I know people who kept Chie until the end of the game but I dumped her to the curb as soon as I got the second character who learns ice spells.

  • DO NOT fight the optional boss, like previously said, he will destroy you. I'd hate to see the Endurance Run because of an optional boss.
  • Socialise, go to some clubs, whatever, you have plenty of time to waste until your next dungeon. Just please don't spend it fighting a boss you stand no chance against.

One thing you'll have to check out is that the majority of the NPC dialog (in town and school) will change now that you're inbetween victims. There should also be more optional quests from the NPCs where they ask you to retrieve items from the TV world. One more hint, after school you can visit the Dojima household (but don't enter) to encounter a woman who will give you free fish bait (in a roundabout sort of way) do it every day you can (you can sell the extras for a bit of cash).

I don't think you guys should grind. Just defeat a lot of shadows in every dungeon and you should be pretty set.

REMEMBER that it's a GAME OVER if Charlie dies.

And like others have said DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!  DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!  DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!  DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!  DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!  DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS YET!!

Let me reiterate what's been said, DON'T FIGHT THE BOSS IN THE CASTLE!!!!
It would be a shame to end the endurance run, right before all the good parts.

There's really no point in grinding in previously beaten dungeons, you get almost no EXP, and the miniboss on the last floor is impossible at your current level.  Just work on social links, and when the next dungeon is open, grind in there.

I might as well do like every other person in these comments and go "NO! DON'T DO IT! THE BONUS BOSS WILL DESTROY YOU!" The weapon for Yukiko you get out of the bonus boss *is* awesome(to the point where I had her equipped with it even as I fought the final boss. Yukiko should only be casting magic anyway, so the fact that this weapon's damage will be far outclassed by the end of the game doesn't really matter. Extra SP is always useful.), but the bonus boss is so difficult that you're probably best off leaving it until after you get through the upcoming dungeon. Unless you want to end this run early...but please don't, this is the best thing I've seen in a while. :) Not to mention that the most entertaining/awesome party member is the next one you get!

ps:Dump Yosuke once you do get the next party member. Doing a little of everything is Charlie's job(and he does it better!) and Yosuke is a loser anyway.

pps: Remember to put Yukiko on manual control! Remember, you can do that by pressing square in the dungeon or by going to "tactics" in-battle.

Actually you should never dump anybody.  Switching party members in and out is a cheap way to save on paying for SP.  And since EXP scales keeping party members in close level isn't hard.

All the party members are pretty awesome.

Yousuke: Gets all the wind spells + wind boost/amps, along with 2nd or 3rd best magic stat (its partially random). Gets tentarafoo which cleans up random encounters well, along with some decently powerful physical attacks. Also gets masukukaja (all allies accuracy and evasion increased). Loses all weaknesses when you max Slink

Chie: Physical attack  powerhouse. Gets Power Charge which is an awesome thing to combo with her physical skills, which are both powerful single target and multi target skills. Weak ice skills that still work to exploit weaknesses. Best follow up attack in the game. Loses all weaknesses when you max slink.

Yukiko: By far the best magic stat and SP reserves, and uses it on the most powerful fire (with boost and amps) and healing skills in the game.  Only drawback is that she retains her weakness forever.

(from here on kept anonymous to avoid spoilers.)
4th character:  Basically the same as chie, except instead of the AoE physical skills gets a bit stronger single attack skills, loses power charge but gains Matarukaja (Buff all allies attack). Gets the most powerful electrical spells, though weak on magic and SP. Loses all weaknesses when you max slink.

5th character: Almost same as yukiko, except slower to gain the powerful heal/attack spells, less SP and magic, but can get two party wide buffs. Same drawback of retaining weakness when Slink is maxed.

6th character: Gets all the light/dark (instant death) spells, along with all the boosts for them, so he/she can pretty much clean up any non boss fights. Gets some very nice AoE attack skills, and gets mind charge + almighty skills, which are really SP intensive but bypass all resistances and can kill anything if you have the SP to spend (and you sure do by this point in the game). Loses all weaknesses when you max slink, and has the best array of resistances/immunites too.

Any party can get you through everything in the game really, though I recommend 1 of the 2 good healers. Forcing yourself to be the healing bitch isn't fun when you are the one who is best equipped to lay down some ass kicking.

Rubbish.  Yosuke's wind attacks get very strong and his Dekaja is very handy on several bosses if the MC's Persona for that battle doesn't have it.

I discovered these over the weekend and have watched every one in a very short amount of time. Real great fun.

That said, this is probably the slowest of the bunch. Not necessarily complaining, this game has some patches that are going to be a bit grindy. I just thought it was interesting that Vinny and Jeff eventually resorted to talking things that have already been babbled about on the podcast.

Friendly warning #42:

DON'T GO AFTER THE BONUS BOSS! He's actually pretty weak, but one of the attacks he uses can annihilate your party easily. I'd wait until your level 20+ before going toe to toe against the Shadow at the end of the dungeon.

I've got to agree with this. Where I'm at now (~level 76) Yosuke does more damage with his wind attacks than any of my characters, making him my main damage dealer on bosses, and Dekaja is always useful.

Did you ever use anyone who wasn't Yosuke?
Yukiko seems like a typical healbot, but she's REALLY GOOD AT MAGICKING THINGS TO DEATH.
Chie...power charge+tarukaja+god hand=death.
Kanji? Tarukaja+Primal Force+his insane strength=death.
Let's not mention everything the MC can do. Just to mention one thing...mind charge+fire amp+fire boost+ragnarok=oh sorry, you were saying something about Yosuke being the best damage dealer?

Although to be HONEST you can use *anyone* and still come out okay(hey, if Naoto can be non-useless against bosses, anything goes). You might as well just use the people you like best, since if absolutely nothing else you'll be more willing to do their s-links(and thus make them better in battle). Or is there no room for that in "beep boop. There is only one correct way to play this game, as determined by my robot logic" land?

ps. Dekaja's useful on the sauna boss(where you're stuck with Yosuke anyway), and that's about it. By the one or two times you need it for a boss again, MC should have it.
