Oh, you went for the calandar. Here in Europe it's pretty much 99% monday to sunday, but when people want to sound smart they like to point out that sunday is the first day of the week. Most calandars don't care about them though.

As an American with American calendars everywhere I still think of Monday as the start of the week. It is the weekend (singular) after all, not the weekends (plural). Saturday and Sunday as one distinct unit. It never comes up at any point at all ever though so it's really just a semantic distinction.

@dezztroy: I know I don't really represent all Americans, but I definitely consider Monday the first day of the week. I like to think the bookend theory is correct, but who knows.

I always thought that the week was Monday to Sunday because of the whole God resting on the seventh day, the Sabbath Day, Sunday.

@gregalor: I was actually reading up on motion capture usage in video games the other day, and what you said is not true. It was being used as early as 1994 for Virtua Fighter 2, and afterwards became pretty common by 1999. Surprised me, too.

@dudelongcouch: That is surprising. I wouldn't have even expected wide usage in movies in 1994. Hell, there wasn't even wide usage of computer graphics in 94. The Virtua Fighter connection makes sense though, since that's exactly what this is.

The fuck is up with the pacing in this game? The first two third of the game is slow and shallow as hell and now it's all action all the time. If it's not forklifting, it's fights all the time. I'm happy that now they are doing something worthwhile, but the game should have done a better job at making the player do stuff like that throughout the whole game.

P.S: Why does Vinny have such a fondness for the throw move? He did it a dozen times before realizing it's not working out.

All my calendars have monday on the left and sunday on the right. This is how the sane world works. God damn it.

I'm looking at a calendar at this very moment that has Sunday at the left to start the week. The built in calendar on my phone starts with Sunday on the left.

I don't know if you realize this, but calendar makers aren't actually an authority figure, nor is there any kind of strict standard they must follow. They manufacture paper with dates printed on them and funny cat pictures that people want to look at. That or some dude makes an app in an afternoon people can look at on their phone.

Man, you think the comments get bad in here, at least there's no flood of people yelling that they're playing it on the wrong old console.

@gregalor: If they DO move on to Shenmue II, then there will be. There's no way they are going to bother ebaying an import copy of Shenmue II for the DC, then finding a compatible boot disc that lets them record from the digital output, and then reading subtitles for the entire game when it's so much easier to just dig out an Xbox copy. And as someone who has been part of the greater online Shenmue community since the old days, the Xbox version is not very popular.

Oh. man just fired up my old Dreamcast with Shenmue, so now I CAN'T laugh at Vinny for the way he moves Ryo around anymore...god damn, we put up with bad controls all those years ago!

It took me awhile to even be good enough at pressing stuff at the right time to not want to toss the Dreamcast in the bin. Then again, I am only two in game days in and I know about more moves than Vinny. Then again if Vinny had learned "Double Blow", from an old man in a park, the laughing would have lasted a long time. I practiced a few moves with Fuku-san too, or showed him a move as a way for the game to teach me a move. Just practicing in a park I taught myself a hidden move as well.

Raising the fork on the fork lift is like activating DRS in F1.

The reason I think anyone would place Sunday at the beginning of the week in simply because that's how it looks on a calendar.

Also COME ON GUYS, this area is so simple. I haven't even played this game before and I understand where they need to go.

The sense of direction all three of you have, really raises my blood pressure -_-

Sunday is the last day.

As a kid who hadn't played many fighting games, I remember being intimated by the moves list when I got Shenmue. I ended up not playing much of the game, so it's cool to have this ER to go back and see the rest of the game.

Oh my god, I haven't thought about Sahara in a long time.

Edit: Holy shit, Vinny gave those safari gang members an ass-whoopin'.

All you can do is laugh when Vinny, Alex and Dan try driving about using directions. Their perception and sense of direction isn't all that great but it does make it funny as hell. Great video as always.

@rykane: I can't wait till they get to Shenmue 2 and they're asking NPCs for directions and it's always something like, "Go that way, then take a left at the guy in the hat, then go past the soba place, then make a right into the alleyway by the fountain, and it's a door with a red awning. Did you get all that?"
