I also like the dumbness of spinning for every coin, so maybe have two wheels? Low stakes one for coins, high stakes for things like boss keys? The low stakes one can still have slim chances of dumb stuff too, of course.

Interestingly, DK64 doesn't require the expansion pak for performance reasons.

According to Rare programmer Chris Marlow, Rare could not resolve a game breaking bug that occurred without the Expansion Pak and thus they were forced, at great expense, to bundle the game with the memory upgrade.

THE RULES

-Everyone started with 15 bananas (points). You earn 1 point for every Golden Banana you collect in the game. You pass the controller when you collect a Golden Banana, die or fail a challenge room.

-At the start of each episode they can purchase items from the shop by spending their current points. The items are:

1. Banana Trippler: you now earn 3 points per Golden Banana.

2. Barrel Roll: play until you die.

3. Banana Peel: skip someone's turn or cancel their item.

4. Sponsor a Kong: if any player gets a Golden Banana as the Kong you're sponsoring you get a point.

5. Sponsor Trippler: if your sponsored Kong gets a Golden Banana you get 3 points

6. Banana Burglar: Steal an item from another player.

7. Mystery Banana: Choose one of the Mystery Bananas. 1 in 3 chance to profit.

-When certain collectibles are picked up the player spins a wheel that has a bunch of desirable (+5 points, free shop items...) and undesirable (lose points, mostly) results.

-The game is over when they collect every Golden Banana OR 3 out of 4 special items are purchased. They cost 150 points each. What they are isn't important.

-side bets are encouraged

GB Community, we should all record ourselves saying "Burgle, my, bananas!" and possibly some sort of funky shop and wheel spinning chant and have someone layer them all on top of each other to make it sound like we're the audience chanting along with the game show host. Then send it to Vinny so he can play it at the appropriate times.

2 minutes in and this show continues to be amazing. Dan opening the shop/the music/Vinny's humour.

Also, I'm pretty sure Dan made a real life Mario Party? And the video game is the mini games? And somehow Dan's Party is even more bullshit than Mario's. Incredible. :D

The prices of everything needs to triple at the rate of collection. Banana inflation is real!

Based on my recollection of this game from my childhood, yes, this series is going to be about 400 episodes long.

But also, since I was a kid when I played this, I had so much time to burn that I collected everything. If they're just trying to get to the final boss and credits, there are a bazillion collectables that are entirely unnecessary.

Considering how hard it tends to be to die in this game, especially early on, I think it would be a good idea to implement a turn time limit.

For example: Your turn lasts until you die or 10 minutes, whichever comes first; getting a banana no longer ends your turn. If you're in the middle of a challenge when the time limit hits you're allowed to finish up your attempt and claim the prize. Otherwise, you must immediate pause and pass the controller to the next player when the time limit hits, even if you're close to a banana, and you may not deliberately move slowly or otherwise put yourself in a position which sabotages the next player's turn (ex: running off a ledge). This keeps in the spirit of the game since if one person is close to a banana and runs out of time the next person can get it with little to no difficulty, meaning that they have essentially 'burgled' that banana.

This would also result in the Barrel Roll needing to be changed. My suggestion would be to knock it down to costing 1 banana, limit it to a max of one use per player per episode, and turn it into an item which the owner can choose to use as either an extra life or to extend their time limit by 2 minutes.

Keeping the price of the banana tripler at 6, but make every in-game golden banana worth 2 points by default. Golden bananas are rarely close to each other and with the current rules a single player would need to get 3 bananas just to break even but with this change it would become a worthwhile investment after 2 bananas.

Lastly, if a turn time limit is put in place then keep the wheel the way it is, but make spinning it optional and the turn timer does not pause while the wheel is spinning. A player must choose to pass or play on the wheel whenever something gives them a spin or a series of spins (ex: if a player picks up 3 coins right next to each other they must choose to pass or play all 3 of those spins then and there).

I love how chaotic this series has been, but I think these changes would balance things out and prevent a single player from taking a turn which goes on for 20-30+ minutes straight without ruining the chaotic charm.

I'm starting to think this will be another short lived series. If the team is already having problems remembering level layout in the first world, my friends, the worlds only get bigger and more complex.

I really hope @ybbaaabby doesn't decide to commit return fraud. It would suck for the employee who accepted the trade because they'd likely get in trouble for that. Even if they didn't it would suck for the person who buys the carts to end up with a busted one. Sure they could get it replaced, but at best it's a hassle at worst it could be a major let down if it's a Birthday or Christmas present.

(this is why game design try to avoid in-game currency inflation by the way, and that's without manual counting.)

the rice trick is BS. If a phone or something gets water inside of it. Its eventually going to corrode. The rice thing doesn't actually do anything. Phones or anything that are "fixed" by that.. did not have an issue with water getting inside in the first place.

@bisonhero: Even with the critical path, you still need something like 120 Golden Bananas alongside the Rareware and Nintendo Coins (not to mention enough blueprints to make the final level's timer reasonable.) That was a pretty daunting task for my child self, and is probably a more daunting task for 4 adults playing once per week for approximately two hours and only partially paying attention. I think that's potentially doable (assuming they skim over some of the worse levels like Gloomy Galleon or Crystal Caverns) but I can't help but wonder if they'll burn out long before then. Say what you will about Mario Sunshine, the way that game is structured means there's always a fairly clear objective to go for, whereas I foresee a lot of aimless wandering in the future of this one.

Of course, the stated goal is that they want to get all 201 bananas, which... is definitely not going to happen. Assuming the series doesn't just fizzle out in a very Kingdom Heartache-esque way, there's not a chance in hell they aren't going to go for the mercy rule as soon as possible once the realization of how much bullshit is involved starts to set in.

They are really gonna need at least some 5-Banana-Tokens at some point or counting stuff will be half an episode ^^

I still hope they send something to Antarctica.
