Sympathies to whoever had to sort this out, as it seems like it didn't go smoothly, but thanks.

I had just reached the conclusion that the old episode was a purposeful joke. The image of wine corks convinced me they were “opening an old bottle”.

I'm gonna laugh if this is just some old Nintendownload X-Press or something... That'd be pretty great, actually, lol.

Wait what happened? I was listening to the new episode on the podcast app and then close to the end it stopped and was replaced with a different episode as though the one I was listening to never existed. Please someone tell me this actually happened and I’m not insane/jumping dimensions uncontrollably like some reject of the Mandela effect.

I'm not making demands. But, this lack of content is upsetting.

What discussion is there to be had? So far, it seems everyone has made up their mind about GOTY (even though I do not agree with the popular sentiment).

Sidenote the podcast app is so terrible, half the time it surfaces old podcasts in the same spot it posts new ones with no rhyme or reason. Alternatively I am the chosen one, thank you for recognizing that.

@s5n8k3: I'm not sure why people bring this up every year, but last year's GotY podcasts were around ~26 hours in total (remember that GotY itself is just one category - and an ordered top ten, not a single game - and I don't think even that is nearly as set in stone as you seem to think). They obviously need breaks around that as well, as they're basically talking solidly otherwise. And then there's all the end-of-year video features they do (like Hitsmas, Rock Band, and Jackbox).

You'll have a wealth of content in a few weeks; more than enough to compensate for the average weekly amount lost while they're busy recording. Plus they still put out both podcasts, a Quick Look for the major release of the week, and there'll be UPF later today.

Did they put the Aftershow on this feed earlier? 'Cause I listened to it and thought they were going to just call that the Beastcast.

I still defend the choice to make the characters in Smash Ultimate unlockable. I love seeing the 'challenger approaching!' screen and not being overwhelmed with 69 characters from the get go.

@s5n8k3: I'm guessing this is your first goty season on giant bomb? There's a small drought early december right before you are hit with a tidal wave of daily 8 hour podcasts, video features, and written items. You'll look back and think how foolish you were when you were younger. Grab a life vest before it's too late!

I think Abby's onto something there. Bethesda's physics engine isn't simply complex and unpredictable when it comes to picking up items and having everything nearly also be affected, that's just how it is in their office: they exist on some bizarre trampoline plane.

They still answer a question about burning out on playing games. And the dude is also from Ireland.

The new Great British Baking Show seasons are solid Alex (and others). I, too, was disappointed to see Mary leave, but Noel Fielding (of Mighty Boosh fame) brings the weird and makes up for it.

@i_speel_my_dreenk: Bethesda's engine (I dunno, still Gamebryo?) seems to be isometric cRPG engine, for games like Ultima 7, or Divinity, but forced to be implemented on 3D space and world that's too big for the memory to handle.

@mendia: Totally. I get why some people find it frustrating, and I guess it depends on why you're coming to the game, but as someone who primarily plays Smash by myself, I love the character unlock system. It gives a sense of progression to play, and seeing new guys pop up and having to do the fight is always really exciting. Plus it encourages me to try every character, instead of just sticking with my mains.

I'm aware, just making a fun :) I think that last I remember hearing, yeah, it was still based on Gamebryo.

@alex what the fuck how can you hate Paul Hollywood??? He's a hard-ass no doubt, but delightfully so. Just stare into those piercing blues a bit more and you'll come around.

The corks definitely make more sense now that this isn't an episode from 12 months ago.

@i_speel_my_dreenk I lean with Alex, Paul I always felt was kind of a prick on the show, and then I read about some of his behavior off of the show and it didn't not improve my opinion of him, to say the least.

I listened to the entirety of the old episode too. Didn't feel robbed

@retrometal: It was an error apparently. It was from last year and it was kind of confusing for people that heard it last year, but didn't quite remember for sure. Like myself. Now I have something new to listen to on my walk to the train.

'Someone' doesn't really represent the whole community. I remember there being a few who agreed whit that statement, but ost people seemed to be totally fine with it.

I don't really know where you got the impression that I was saying anyone spoke for the whole community, I just thought it was humorous in that "Naturally, people are unhappy with something on the internet" kind of way.

@firepowercr: OH GOOD. I thought I was going crazy or got trapped in the Matrix as I listened to the whole thing on my commute and remembered WAY TOO MUCH of the conversations.

I downloaded the episode this morning for the commute to work and didn't even realize it was an old episode because I don't really like call in shows. Check the reddit and people said it was an old episode. It was new to me because I never listened to it. More GB content for me!
