maybe you're bothered because you disagree with him? his passion is fantastic. hearing mark call this e3 a piece of shit for 3 hours was music to my ears, because it was a piece of shit.

I feel they aren't keeping enough an open mind on smart glass. I don't think it is going to be earth shattering and I don't even think you will be controlling games from it, but if it gives the option to expand the usability. It can take the wii u and make it DOA if implemented correctly. Do I think it will be implemented correctly? No, but I dont think you can count something out when a few brilliant minds haven't been given the time to play around with ideas. It was just disheartening that they weren't even giving it an opportunity.

This episode was actually better than this week's Bombcast. 8-4 stepping their game up!

Saying that Star Wars is not a popular franchise is ridiculous even when you compare it to big video game franchises. It's still fucking huge. I'm not able to discern who's who yet, but you know who I'm talking about.

@ludorverr: His tone and language bother me, as I said I value his opinion whether I agree or not. It is physically uncomfortable to listen to him when he sounds like a petulant child. You don't need to scream and bend words to make an impact, and as an ex-journalist he should know that.

Incidentally, I do feel E3 was a bit disappointing, but understand that it's symptomatic of the 24-hour news cycle rather than a lack of quality products to buy in the coming year. There will still be at least two games a month I want to buy and that's plenty for me.

I love this podcast.

I've been listening to 8-4 since they came to GB, and I enjoy it. This episode was so fucking negative about everything, that an hour in I don't even want to listen anymore.

The E3 Hype train has turned into the "Mark McDonald gets really angry about how bad E3 was" train.

I really like this podcast, I'm glad I was introduced to it.

Why are people surprised this is negative? Did these guys go to E3 or just watch the press conferences? I think the difference between 8-4 and GB is the GB crew were actually there, the show floor had a lot to offer. The press conferences on the other hand were BS.

Keep the cursing up btw, don't you dare limit their full range of expression.

End of cycle E3s are so boring. The podcasts that result are awesome though.

Great show as always and who cares if it's negative as long as it's geniune. I even appreciate geniune bias as apose to responses geared at generating an intended effect ergo false impressions. Keep it up 8-4 crew (I must say it would be much harder to listen to this show without Mark Mcdonald I remember listening to him from the 1upyour's days). Ziff Davis had a plethora of inspirational and thought provoking or should I say opinionated and passionate editors.

I, for one, have really enjoyed the post-E3 podcasts from Giant Bomb and 8-4.

Also, someone needs to make a mash-up of Jeff and Mark's dubstep.

It was a terrible introduction to 8-4 for me. Doesn't sound like these guys like videogames at all. I'm pretty negative myself about the state of the industry right now but i can only take so much complaining at once.

I almost made it to the end but once they started talking about Star Wars 1313 i had to stop.

"Oh so you want to argue about this game having an audience, well let me talk LOUDER AND LOUDER UNTIL YOU SHUT UP"

This is really bumming me out. I feel like main host dude is just hell-bent on telling the world about how shitty all the games are. I've listened to the past few weeks and really enjoyed it, but this is just kinda frustrating to listen to. The way he's dumping on The Last of Us, having heard the behind-the-scenes demo, is almost frustrating.

This E3 was going to be crap unless Microsoft opened with the new console. Sony and Nintendo going out of their way to have poor press conferences was just bizarre though.

Despite what people might think of Arthur Gies, I could've done without so-and-so "calling him out" for something so frivolous. He made a harmless jab on Twitter; not exactly worth mentioning on a personal level. I know 8-4 is not press, but there still should be some sense of professionalism.

It was difficult to listen to this episode...there was this segemnt wherein they misappropriate the part during the Rubin interview of who said that they wouldn't want to get caught b family members playing Saints Row the Third and attributed it to Rubin but it was actually Brian Crecente who said that and Rubin was just acknowledging it. I dont knw if they or whoever made that mistake during the podcast actually read the interview or the update but he just assumed that Rubin wanted to change the franchise but it didn't read that way. The guy (jj or john or whoever it was...i was too upset to care) just kept at it and it was at that point that I just stopped listening since I was just getting upset with the vitriol being thrown around by everyone else in every other topic preceding it.

I also dislie the fact that people here are giving shit to the gb guys fo not being critical enough. They were being very honest with how they felt and they conveyed that appropriately. This particuar 8-4 episide had too much complaining and its ironc because they or maybe just mark started to sound like the "entitled" fans that john has been referring to the people who shat on the me3 ending. The gb guys didnt have to sound like raving lunatics in order to express distatste or that hey didnt find this year all that great. In fact i liked the way the gb guys approached it its because they were being rational about it.

Didn't they call Arthur out for his comments on the Wii U being kinda crap only for themselves to proceed to take a massive dump on Nintendo for half the podcast? How ironic.

I don't check Arthur's Twitter regularly, but I remember him saying something similar in this week's Rebel FM. Something about SmartGlass being like Wii U, but you possibly already own it since it works on iOS devices?

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, too. So far I only got through the first hour of this week's 8-4 podcast, but it's incredibly ironic to call someone out for a smug observation in a podcast that's nothing but smug observations.

mark is hilarious. i love him as a host, but sometimes i feel like he is rushing to talk about the next thing too soon when they go off on a tangent. let it rock, mark. the banter is welcome, but the sense of urgency is not.

also, 8-4 consistently has great guests. it pleases me.

@dr_mantas: I've been listening to 8-4 since the beginning....that negativity gets old fast.

Mark is a domineering host, and likes next to nothing, which bleeds into the opinions of the other cast members. The man even shit on the original Game Boy, saying he never thought it was any good, even when it was new. Fuck that guy.

@CaptainSandwich: Well, I'm relatively new to this podcast, so maybe it's the novelty factor, but I'm still loving it. Could be that the Bombcast gets a bit predictable for me these days, I dunno. So far so good.

I'm totally with these guys: so many shooters, so many sequels. I've become tired of all this during the last few years and now I'm just flatout sick of that stuff. Luckily, there are tons of alternatives to keep me busy... thanks to the indie game scene and a few standout AAA titles. Can't wait for Sim City and X-Com, for example. I'm so thankful for this neat little resurgence of the strategy/sim genre.

Great long podcast! But I'm sad that the ride on the E3 hype train is over.

Any time a host is trying to rush to the next part of the podcast, I don't like it. Let the conversation on a subject dwindle naturally and you'll get a much better segue. If the guys wanna talk about something, fucking let them talk. I can get the news about this shit anywhere, I listen for the banter and opinions!

This episode was great! To all the people crying about the negativity in this episode, most of the companies out there deserved it. That Gies guy sounds kinda dumb as well, I remember him tweeting that comment and it was just an incredibly stupid thing to say. I love the 8-4 podcast. I wish the wait wouldn't be so long though :'[
