I was mildly curious about trying this now that it's on Steam and has NPCs and such (Figured I'd wait for it to not be $40 though), and then I saw the briefly invincible dog that couldn't decide if it was attacking or not and decided... nevermind, game's still bad.

They pronounce it "Apple-at-cha"? What part of America does that? I've lived in Maryland my whole life and always ever heard it "Apple-ay-sha". I bet that lady would've pronounced the y in Maryland too, weirdo.

That's what you get when adults try to merge with that millenials (or generation Y) trend.

No game built on the ramshackle bones of the Bethesda incarnation of Gamebryo will ever be good. Case closed. (Actually it was closed at Fallout 3, but people really liked VATS, so hey, here we are.)

I love these guys that don’t like Fallout, playing Fallout. So much fun. If they could get Brad and Vinny in on the fun, might be better. FUN!

10 minute impression: honestly, i am impressed at the improvements...still in no way interested in playing this over, er, the double digit number of other games with open world and multiplayer instead, but yea- NPC's certainly are here. I am pretty tired of the Bethesda formula in general anyway so I'm not sure there's any winning me over in any case- but sure, this seems better if not outstanding. *shrug*

*having finished the stream archive* No, this still seems broken and bad, maybe in an ideal situation the above applies still but woah. Bethesda really needs to suck it up and either stop or switch engines because they broke the functional threshold of gamebryo like, four games ago. But hey NPCs are here. So is encumbrance.

You people who hate the soundboard hate the essence of giant bomb, it is the distilled being of this website

The fundamental particle of this website(about videogames) is a soundboard that yells PURE ENERGY

It's mind-boggling that 16 months after its release, you still can't go five minutes without something severely broken happening in this game. It feels like peple have become numb to the technical short-comings of Bethesda games, but it's more likely they gave up on Bethesda ever fixing their engine.

NPCs may be back, but still nothing you do in this game looks remotely engaging.

@grondoth: Then maybe Jeff should distill the essence of the soundboard by cutting the volume significantly. It is mixed far too loud and it doesn’t matter how many times people say it it doesn’t change. I legitimately can’t listen to podcasts with the soundboard in use because it hurts my ears when shit blares out at 175% the standard speaking volume. I’ve had to quit listening to the Aftershow after last week it set off the tinnitus in my ears.

two things:

1) the sound board and screen borders are okay with me, let the man relive his youth.

2) it pains me to see him playing a FPS with a controller, its just wrong.

I am a big fan of Fallout 3. It took me two tries to get into the game, but crossing the wasteland at night, with the laser and energy beams flashing around me, the grunts and cries, screams and roars will always be a high point for me. Action for me on the road, or even becoming involved in whatever was happening out there in the dark, I will never forget this. I was pretty ignorant of what should be good, so VATS was a pretty neutral system for me.

Since then, probably because my value of the Fallout was more personal then objective, New Vegas and 4 fell off, though I thought them okay. Fallout 76 just seems to be cashing in by another approach, without changing other basics.

One of these days I would like to get Fallout 2 to look right, perhaps give it another try.

Is that Ghoul 'Mort' that Jeff talks to at 06:13 voiced by Jason Mewes? Sounds very much like him if not.

I'd love to see Vinny dip into this. 76 isn't all bad, but it requires way too much unearned investment to reveal the good bits--which is to say most of the negative opinions, at least, aren't wrong. As someone who values exploring and looting in these games, there's a whole lot of potential for that. Eventually, as I kept paying attention to the original narrative, I got hooked, and think the explanation for why there weren't any people was pretty compelling... but it takes like 30-40 hours to get there. That's a big problem.

Now the NPCs are here. I'm finishing other games before I'm going to dive back in myself, but I think I probably will. The world is fun to explore, despite the jank.

What I don't like here: Jeff and Ben seem to continue to enter too many games with their opinions locked-in long before they start recording. Jeff has definitely gotten better about this more recently, but it pops up in this video quite a bit... please, try harder to look for things to enjoy instead of looking for opportunities to drop 'hot takes' about how 'everything' is 'still' broken. Yes, it's a shame there are still so many bugs... in the engine after so many years, and specific to the game as well... that's not new. None of us need to find that out. What would be nice to see, though, is where there's still fun to be had, especially by people we know can make extremely fun content out of 'bad' games when they're actually having fun.

But y'all didn't find it. Maybe you wouldn't have even if you put a more earnest effort into looking for it. I didn't see enough of that effort hence my disappointment. Oh well. Most of the community already decided the game was bad and people who play it are bad for doing so anyway.

Yikes this game is still a bit of a nightmare.

I somewhat understand why people want multiplayer in Elder Scrolls/Fallout (because it's fun to be with buds), but I do not come to these games for the gameplay, really. It's more about the world-building and cool quests--both of which are cheapened by multiplayer hooks. ESO seems somewhat cool, but a lot of the things I like about Elder Scrolls (clockwork NPC interactions, individual agency, being a boss in a world of chumps. etc) seem to be sacrificed. And 76 is... well, still a bit of a nightmare.
