Abby name checked Myrtle Beach! It'll never not be weird to hear my hometown mentioned on a podcast.

This was more of a podcast than a commentary track. I ended up listening to it separate from the movie as they probably only talk about it for 10 percent of the time. God bless Alex for at least trying to keep them on track. Seems to be a common theme.

Abby needs a Bayonetta and MGS education. Get to work Alex and Dan.

That was fun rewatching it again with GBE commentary last night. I'm pretty sure I watched the DC first because it definitely felt like the theatrical version was missing more of the character backstory. Oh well, the movie still holds up which is watch matters most.

@jstaunton: Nope. Just was always sensitive to violence against teens and children. Only gotten stronger when I became a teacher for a bit and now much more intense when my daughter was born.

Never construed of these commentary tracks as bundled blu ray commentary tracks but more like Mystery science theater rifftrax. Zero expectation of cogent movie analysis. It's going for a completely different thing. Also, these movie commentaries are hands down the best feature on this site for me. Keep up the good work.

You are correct, but there is a difference from their F&F commentaries where they're...you know, watching and joking about the movie, and this one where it felt like they were actively ignoring it.

I'm gonna go ahead and bet that their They Live commentary gets sidetracked to hell into obscure wrestling talk for 90 minutes then BAM! "Why is that dude banging an alien?"

Watched this film for the 1st time in 2004, I remember enjoying it.

Although I really liked the 1st Hunger Games, I was always really amazed how they made child murder so palatable to the masses, where in this it feel visceral and taboo.

I can't seem to find these premium podcasts on my iphone. I would like to listen to them on there, but I can only currently listen to the free bombcast and beastcast. If someone knows how I can listen to these premium ones on my phone, I would really appreciate the help

Keeps slipping out of sync. They should still be at the same frame rate despite me watching a UK DVD...Actually.. My version is running at 109 minutes (according to the box), so lord knows what version of the 'theatrical cut' I'm watching.

EDIT: nvm, I'll check out the UK Netflix version. Sounds like that's the right one.

ED2 - That was awesome. Thanks for giving me a reason to watch the film again and providing some good laughs. Yet another thing where I wish everyone would pay a tad more attention to what they're supposed to be watching. However, it was great to hear Dan had watched the Vengeance Trilogy, so it all balances out!

I was all set to get started before I realized that as far as I cant tell most versions of the movie that I have access to (Including the one that I own) are not the theatrical cut. I might still try and see how different it is? but the version they watched seems like the most difficult one to get ahold of

If all you can find is the extended longer cut (122mins-ish), don't sweat it. THE EXTENDED VERSION IS FINE TO USE. You'll just have to pay more attention to where they are at so you can sync it up. A few extra start and stops but it's really not an issue. You'll get the same amount of enjoyment either way. Have fun.

@stordoff: People probably already said this, but thanks for Shudder information. I couldnt for the life of me find a version that wasnt the directors cut. I also used the Shudder trial so you saved my Film and 40's. Thanks again Duder!

I love all these guys but I would agree that this was a weak film and 40s. Abby slowly got more and more insufferable. Calling every character an idiot gets old. She does great work normally but apparently drunk Abby is annoying to me. Keep up the great work on everything else guys!

I hope you guys always go for the director's cut/special edition/whatever versions going forwards. Those seem to be a lot more commonly available.

First time watching the film with the beast crew and it was great! I never felt like they were actively ignoring the plot as they knew the main story beats of what was going on.

This movie was pretty bad, I didn't really care for it. It had some decent moments I guess, it wasn't completely terrible.

Commentary was entertaining. I agree with Abby that MGS can suck my dick. Garbage games. EDIT: I actually don't have any strong feeling sabout MGS one way or another. It's fun to poke fun at it and its fanbase though.

Get Abby drunk and the cold truth comes out. MGS is hot garbage.

I actually think the stealth gameplay is pretty good, especially in 5. But everything about the story and characters is garbage.

The Amazon version in the US is the wrong one, but you can resync it if you pay attention. Even my drunk ass could do it.

It was fantastic pairing the two. I had had a great time!

Stumbled across Battle Royale on Netflix UK, remembered this was here and really enjoyed it. Netflix seems to have the same version too as it syncs perfectly.

Heads up people looking for a streaming rental version: The Google Play version is dubbed. I'm watching it with this podcast on anyway so it doesn't really matter but if it does matter to you, something to look out for.

Edit: It also doesn't seem to be the right theatrical cut. Damn.

As someone who is in the Canadian Army, I can tell you that Grenade explosions have almost no fire. It's actually pretty disappointing when you throw a hand grenade. It's just a small puff of smoke and a loud bang. Grenades are designed to throw shrapnel, not explode people in a giant fireball. Movies have built grenades up way to much.

On another note though, movies and games have undersold Claymores. You CAN NOT stand behind a Claymore and be safe. Those fucking things go bang.

*Edit: The reason Alex isn't tagged is because I couldn't find his username in my drunken stuper.*

@winsord: This one is a very special case. Battle Royale has a director's cut, but it ruins the film. The one people watch is the one that was shown in cinema.

I'm glad they did a Film and Forties for this as I've never seen it before and just recently ran across it on dish. It was even the correct version.

Man, that lighthouse scene really escalated.
