We're six movies and damn near a thousand ounces deep into our Fast & Furious journey, and things just keep getting stupider. Amnesia! Tanks! Impossible runways! THIS. IS. FILM. AND. 40S.
An audio accompaniment to your movie viewing pleasure with your friends at Giant Bomb.
This podcast is an audio supplement, meant to be played simultaneously with the film Fast & Furious 6. We are watching this movie via the extended edition Blu-ray release. You can find the movie at any of these fine establishments.
Our commentary begins right after the Universal Logo has completely faded out. It's the 25 second mark.
ALSO, two minor housekeeping things. Early in this track, I mention fixing something in post because I thought the movie had failed to start playing at the correct spot. It did, I was dumb. Ignore that.
Secondly, we believe we have fixed the issue folks were having with glitches in podcast uploads. If you hear any issues with this file, please let us know. If not, we'll re-upload the last two episodes so you can enjoy them glitch-free. Thank you!
The last forty minutes of FF6 make it the BEST Fast and Furious movie. It has EVERYTHING. Grappling hook kills, wrestling moves, flying clotheslines, flying HEADBUTTS, falling through the air while shooting a gun, throwing a guy into a plane engine, a car driving out of an exploding plane, a TANK driving out of an exploding TRUCK, catching someone in midair and landing on a car...
I detest this movie for its thumbnail picture already.
I couldn't care less about modern cars being crashed in movies, but everytime I see a classic (like the Mustang in the still) get wrecked I want to cry. These things are pieces of art to me, I love car design from years past, there is only a limited number of those old timers left, and watching them get destroyed for a stupid 5 second setpiece drives me up the walls.
Sigh. Vented. Apart from this personal pet peeve, this series has been extraordinarily fun to watch and listen to. I'd love to see more Film & 40s in the future! (Watch responsibly.)
I've got good news. All fancy cars you see in just about any movie, ever, uses a plexiglass chassis to mimic the car in question.
Unless you have a deep love for axles, there's no reason to worry.
Is there any way to list all Film & 40s podcasts? I want to get on this wild ride but I can't find an option for it. If I search for "Film & 40s" I get no related results at all. Only options seems to list all podcasts (or all premium) and just try to find these mixed in there but that's a lot of work, there's a ton of stuff there.
edit: Well actually under premium it appears to be "only" 113 results so seems doable but I still wish it had its own category!
Just a heads up, I knocked up a quick video for those with other versions experiencing sync issues, who may not understand the command line stuff for Fast Five, same thing here. Once again, was a hot 1 take so please be nice.
2. Justin Lin has never directed a music video, only film & television. You may be confusing him with another Asian-American director, Joseph Kahn (Torque, Blank Space, Thong Song).
So #DanWasRight all along? He pronounced her name correctly in the last two episodes. (Haven't listened to this one yet.)
In regards to the F1 car ramp/flippers in this movie being in any games, they are currently in GTA 5 for Import/Export missions and to own for a corporation.

This should do it. Heads up that you can filter your results to specific areas or the site or content type by hitting the gear button inside the search bar. For that link I entered Film & 40s and selected podcasts only.
That was hands down the hardest laughs I've had so far. When Vinny loses it in the final post-reveal, OMFG! I haven't laughed that hard in months. Thank you guys for an amazing commentary!!
@ppompnmn: Alex and Jeff have been big supporters of these films, long before they hit the public mass they are today. When he says they are special to him, he means it.

@cynicologist: "McCarthy knows he sometimes has to break the hearts of car fanatics, particularly when an especially cool vehicle is destroyed. “It is painful, yes,” McCarthy said, with a chuckle. For the most part, however, the cars being demolished are duplicates of the real thing, or they come direct from the manufacturers."
@mrbubbles: Same. They really nail the ending of 7. Before seeing the movie, I had spent some time listening to the casts' interviews about losing him, so knowing how close they all were made it hit even harder for me.
Vinny's frustration with Tej is just the most hilarious fucking thing. This series of commentary tracks has honestly been some of favorite content on the site.
First time watching this film and I personally thought it was better/more satisfying than Fast Five (which was great in it's own right). That final sequence... holy shit! THERE'S ALWAYS ANOTHER GEAR!
This was so damn amazing. Like fuck. So great. Thank you so much Alex. Pretty much have a film and 40s every week. I have watched all these movies at least twice but damn this is so good.
That was a real good time. I wouldn't be surprised if Han gets resurrected at some point, considering what they did with Letty, but I'd prefer if they leave him dead. I love his character, but his story is way more compelling the way it is.
So I looked up the stunt section on the Wikipedia page for this...and apparently, for that tank scene, they ran over 250 cars with a tank for the practical effects.
They ran over 250 cars with a tank.
They ran over 250 cars with a tank.
THEY RAN OVER TWO-HUNDRED AND FIFTY CARS WITH A FUCKING TANK.
This series is amazing and I love every minute of it. Especially Vinny's constant opinions on Ludacris being the team's tech/gadget guy. Also the credit stinger bit.
