Giant Bombcast Game of the Year 2019: Day Two Deliberations

Just had to jump in and say that anyone who is on the fence about giving Astral Chain a go should vehemently disregard the criticisms heard on this podcast. The game is superb with an incredibly satisfying combat system. It does take a while before all the moves and Legions become unlocked but once it clicks the game is just gold. Even before that point though, the game is never bad or boring. Vinny asked what the last universally regarded Platinum game was? Judging by its reception almost literally everywhere else, it was Astral Chain. THIS IS A REALLY GOOD GAME!! Just had to get that off my chest. Feel better now

Hey! Actraiser 2 is a great game! It's hard as fuck, but great. It even has over 200 difficulty settings if you use a password generator.

@imperialbedroom: I'm really surprised they were saying the combat wasn't that fun in Astral Chain. IMO the combat was incredible. It was so unique and felt so different from other character action games that I would regularly spend like 30 minutes in the training room at the start of missions just getting used to all of the new tools at my disposal. Late game, when you have all your legions and weapons, the combat opened up to such a ludicrous degree.

It's the other areas of the game that I feel like Astral Chain struggles with. The rating system feels too easy, the investigation stuff is kind of dull, and the story is kind of boring.

But overall, I think the crew were too hard on it. It's a really good game.

@binarygod: Jeff pretty much hates anything xbox, he can barely hide it. I am not sure what went down but it's pretty clear, GB barely acknowledge it exits and if there is anything positive about it they cover it in nanoseconds and move on. Case in point here Quantum Break was actually a good game and very very similar to Control in gameplay, yet Jeff hates QB (MS exclusive) but loves control.
