For future reference: most of the audience does not want you to do as Dan says ( he played you like a fiddle at every step). If the reasoning for taking a weird spice challenge is entertainment, it would have been better for you to agree to the whole scam (which it totally was) and then throw the chip in the garbage at the end.

I think I've turned around on Survive the Internet, and Monster Seeking Monster looks decent now that I understand how it goes. Fibbage is great, as always. Still, it seems like Jackbox Party Pack 4 is weaker overall than its predecessor - Bracketeering and Civic Doodle, in particular makes me wonder why they want to push multi-round formats into a lot of their games, especially when that alternate mode in Fibbage 3 works fantastically as a shorter affair.

@azuregale: Yeah, I actually want to play monster seeking monster now. It's clearly a social game in the vein of avalon/werewolf/mafia where you try to get people to pick you so they won't give someone else a heart, while trying to pick someone that picks you so you will get a heart, and try to satisfy your monster ability. It's actually kinda clever. They shoot themselves in the foot a little by not making that explicit enough and instead pretending like you are supposed to roleplay flirting, instead of sheeming and finding plausible reasons that will convince as many people as possible to pick you.

I feel like the games in this pack in general require the players to "play along" a lot more than the others. Like bracketeering seems like it could be great, but instead of just having it a be a voting round where you vote and then wait for the timer to run out, you are supposed to bring up actual arguments why your favourite is a better choice than for the category than the challenger. It's supposed to create lots of small knife vs bat type discussions.

That is not true at all. He won and that was the bet...if I'm making a bet with someone we are betting on something and nothing else is expected. Patrick asked if the winner wanted to try it if they could and Dan said yes but it's insane to demand or expect the winner to try it.

I personally would try the chip as I enjoy things like that but in the pickle smoothie situation there is no way in hell I would try it if I won and I like pickles

The only one I love is Survive The Internet (and Fibbage) The rest are very meh, Bracketeering, in particular, is very weak, probably their weakest game yet. Survive The Internet is great though

How Dan has thus far avoided being fed to lions or tossed down a well by angry villagers is beyond me.

Am I alone here in legitimately disliking every single time there's one of these eating challenges that nobody on the crew wants to do except for Dan? Don't get me wrong, I like Dan and his contributions to the site, but stuff like this just ruins entire videos for me.

IDK, they set up the goal of the game pretty plainly off the bat. I think the crew just kind of ignored all that and assumed it would be another "be funny" = "win points" game.

I dunno about Monster Seeking Monster, I was playing it with a twitch group and me and someone else just picked each other every single time, we got 1st and 2nd place, and the monster powers changed literally nothing because none of them could activate with 2 of us essentially not participating with the other players.

I'm no game designer but it seems a little... busted, that there's so much relying on the players to go along with all the rules when simply teaming up with someone will win you the game anyway.

I think it would be waaaaaaaaaay better if they didn't reveal the names of who you were chatting with, or made it impossible to tell if you were just picking the same person every round or not. Then you'd actually need to engage with the "convince others to pick you" mechanic to win.

They do all the tutorialization under the guise of dating roleplay, since the whole game is themed around dating. I'm not exactly gonna jump at anyone who doesn't understand the game apparently doesn't want you to do the thing every part of the game is implying you're going to be doing.

I dunno about all this anger at the “food challenge” aspect but I just wanted to say that Jackbox continuous to be kind of a bore to watch because half the time they’re typing in silence on their phones and the other half they’re waiting for a countdown to finish. There are fun moments but for the most part it’s kinda of a bore.

I'm glad they revisited that Monster dating game, I actually get what it's about now.

What is the point of Steamworld Dig? It doesn't look bad or offensive, but I'm not sure what the goal is..? Is there a story of some kind?

@rigas: They have done it before and they will most likely do it again at some point. Especially with Dan being part of that group. I personally don't have a problem with it, as long as the people involved aren't actively opposed to it. However, in this case nobody seemed excited for it, but they did it anyway. I'm not sure why. I really hope they didn't think they had to do it for the audience.

@bloody_skirmish: Yes, there is a story. You play as Dorothy, having come across the town of El Machino on your way to find your friend, Rusty (the protagonist from Steamworld Dig 1 I believe), who has gone missing. El Machino has been experiencing severe earthquakes lately however the Sheriff of the town is interested only in mining. After hearing some hints that imply Rusty had entered the mines, Dorothy enlists to keep searching.

The game has blue waypoints to guide the player to the next story marker, but you can turn this off if you'd prefer to just explore unaided. Essentially, it's a metroidvania built around a digging mechanic with a light story sprinkled in. I haven't played Steamworld Dig 1 (or the other games with these characters) so I can't attest to how much prior understanding adds to the story, but it's easy to follow without that. The story's not particularly enthralling but it does serve as a basic premise to keep you moving.

I'm still waiting for the day for Dan to get his comeuppance and having to drink a pickle-mayo-habanero smoothie.

GBEast should probably stop agreeing to Dan's bad ideas. It just makes me sad to see everyone get hurt, and especially sad to see everyone but Dan get hurt. He brought the chip in; at the very least, he should have had some of it along with the other two members of GBEast and their guest Patrick. At least if Austin was here, he would have given a rousing speech about Marxism and somehow persuaded Dan to partake in the spicy chip. And that's not to say Austin was some sort of pansy, either. That's the thing about Austin: you know the dude would have had some of the chip.

I know this entire thing is a bit that GBEast does (encouraging Dan's behavior constantly) but it just makes me feel upset. I know people are gonna tell me to stop being an overly sensitive baby, but it's like how Vinny had to steer XCORPS once Dan tried to ruin it as well. Sometimes, someone needs to stop in when Dan Ryckert is actively trying to bring the vibe of the site to a negative place. If GBE is trying to have fun and tell stories, why is it just the same story every single time? It makes me feel bad.

The chip eating could have gone so much worse for Patrick. In the end of the video he dabs his eyes with some of the paper from the table, the same paper Dan used to break the chips into smaller pieces. Getting that stuff in your eyes would have been bad.
