Dan needs to read a book.

As opposed to writing 3 :) Vinny is a father of young inquisitive minds, he is the perfect foil for the knowledge sieve that is our Dan.

I can tell from this that Dan Ryckert is going to make a memorable impression as a long-term part of GBEAST.

The story was even worse than we feared: According to Dan below Paul Ryckert is the bunny murderer!

@mvhvtmv: Yeah, reminds me of visiting with Dad and his hunting buds after they finished hunting and seeing a half-dozen beheaded geese on the table with half their feathers plucked out. Rural living is just much closer to the messy cycle of life & death on a daily basis.

I married Leah because, like my real wife, she loves Wine and Cheese. I just gave her Wine or cheese every day until she was drunk enough to marry me.

Oh man, if I saw those dead rabbits and that dog split in half as a child that would have scarred me pretty bad.

People's reaction to these stories is a pretty good gauge if they grew up in rural areas or urban ones.

Urban Folk: "Aaaaagh quit talking quit talking QUIT TALKING!"

Rural Folk:*weary sigh* "Yeah, that all sounds about right..."

It's certainly not having to shovel a desiccated raccoon corpse out of an old doghouse. Or seeing your pet dog splattered on the highway right by your driveway. Or watching your dad haul roadkilled deer into the ditch so the eagles can feast on their carcasses.

Yup, that would fuck me right up even as an adult!

Between this video and the Rocket League rubber match video, all I want to play now are those 2 games.

Nevermind the fact that I just dropped a bunch on the Steam Winter Sale.

As far as child labor laws go, if you need your kid to help with your family business, you can have them help and pay them nothing. The whole reason we have summer vacation was because as an agrarian society, farmers needed their kids to help around the farm during planting/harvest time. Regardless, you can have your child work for the family business regardless of their age. The law assumed you love your kids enough not to kill them with work, or unduly take advantage of them. Most of the time, it's very healthy for kids to work in a family business. It teaches them responsibility, and how to run a business. A skill lacking in most kids and young adults these days.

"According to international standard ISO 8601, Monday is the first day of the week."

Sorry Dan, you're wrong. Again.

In the grand scheme of things, though, who cares? The real war crime is the way you yanks write out dates.

The same standard will help with that though, so worth a read.

N...no...? I was referring to multiple weekends at once, like in a year? The bookend at the front of a shelf is still a bookend.

Right, but what I'm hearing is that Saturday is at one end of the shelf and Sunday is at the other end. Two bookends. Actually, it's on an entirely different shelf of days! It's late, and this concept is too heady for me right now.

Yeah this is what i meant. If you ask a co-worker on Friday if he's going to do something fun on Saturday and Sunday, technically those two days belong to two different weeks if your week starts with a Sunday. Saturday is the last bookend of the current week, and Sunday is the starting bookend of the next week. Asking them what they do during the weekend (instead of 'what will you do during the weekends') would only include one of those days if you go by that logic.

I know this is a nonsensical discussion, but it's an interesting thought-exercise.

So, first of, the vigor with which Dan asserts that Sunday is the first day is way off, I think it doesn't matter nearly as much.

But, that said, Dan is North American, and a lot of people here are clearly European. So, here's how the calendar looks in North America.

Dan's argument is that Sunday is in the left-most column. Which, as any person can see it is. Therefore, his definition of week is the red brackets.

He then goes on to say that anyone who says that Monday is the first day, the orange brackets, is crazy. Which, strictly going by the calendar, is true.

That said, I've never thought about it for more than a cumulative 4 minutes over my life. It literally has never come up in any meaningful way in all my business or personal life, so I think everyone needs to chill (including @danryckert, but also including @shep9toes, @eloj and everyone else I'm too lazy to scroll back through the last four pages to call out by name).

I saw that at age 10 when I stepped out to wait for the school bus. I didn't go to school until noon, for obvious reasons.

APPENDEUM: I also learned about sex at age 11 when I saw 2 of our cats doing it outside the kitchen window. I don't know what's funnier, that mom freaked out when I asked her what they were doing, or that they fell over while doing it and still kept going, rotating around in the grass.

I'm so glad Dan pushed for this game to be in the top ten for 2016. It's sooo hard to stop playing it and it was nice to see some of the new content that's been added in the patch. It was my second favorite game of the year (after Hitman). :)

Maybe they're like bookends - one starts the week, the other finishes it :p

FWIW, the same Windows 10 calendar on a UK setup has Monday as the first column (though TBH, I don't especially care what day the week starts. I spent three years treating Thursday as the first day of a week, so Sunday or Monday is normal by comparison).
