I'm not an Xbox user, but I'll easily admit that these bits with Phill Spencer are always nice, he makes the business talk casual and easy to listen to and, with Jeff's way of conducting an interview, the whole thing feels like just a random, laid-back, conversation instead of this formulaic thing seen everywhere else.

Also, bless Mary and Danny for saving the last segment constantly.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel "proud" about seeing some of the bigger "gets" sitting on the couch? It's not some 5 minute talk on the show floor with a mic in your face. Talk with Phil was great; I hope his ideas and wants come to fruition. I don't want to buy an xbox one if I don't need to. I have a great pc but I'd love to play some microsoft exclusives with proper pc treatment. Also having no other guests when he was on was probably a duh moment but good.

Now let's see what hooligans the rest of the night had..

I'm still salty at Double Fine about the whole Space Base DF9 thing, but no one else ever seems to mention it or care. Guess I just need to get over it? Don't know if I'll trust them again though.

Oh wow, I missed this one when it was live. It's pretty crazy how quickly Cara's accent has gone mid-Atlantic considering how long she was travelling for Embed, but working on Dishonored is a pretty cool gig.

Phil Spencer is so on point, I love it. If I had to go back to console gaming within the next few years, I would likely go back to Xbox.

Also I totally LOVE that he brought up the Quantum Break beef - I'm not some Quantum Break apologist (I think it looks incredibly dull as well), but I still love that Phil's got the stones to proudly wear that Quantum Break t-shirt, haha.

It blows my mind that people aren't over that. Games get cancelled. It happens.

Publishers quietly kill projects that just aren't working out (or require such ongoing development time that the revenue from the game will never outweigh all the salaries they had to pay for months and months). That's business. Sure, that business is cleaner when it's being worked on behind closed doors and then the publisher puts a bullet in the project before any fans know about it. It gets messy when Kickstarters and Early Access get involved. But at the end of the day, sometimes projects die. Maybe it's a publisher-backed project, maybe it's a Kickstarter-backed project, maybe it's an Early-Access-backed project, but wherever the money came from, maybe the project just never finds an audience or the game mechanics are taking WAAAAAY too long to refine into something playable and good, but in the interest of not bankrupting the company involved, it's better to end that project.

It's a pity it never delivered on the full feature set, but lots of games have to cut features as development goes on and just focus on the ones that work. It just baffles me that people would rather Double Fine "make good" on that game, even if it's to the overall detriment of the studio's finances and future stability. The demand for a Dwarf Fortress-style management game is ultimately kinda low because it's a niche thing, and it sounds like DF-9 was selling abysmally, so I really don't get why everybody thinks the honourable thing that Double Fine should've done is to throw away tens of thousands of dollars per month paying employees to continue development on a game that is never going to make back its money.

I cannot conceive of how there is this segment of gamers that hold this grudge against Double Fine over this. Games only get continuous development if they continue to sell. If they stop selling, the game development also stops. The sales of DF-9 didn't forecast that there was any financial justification for continuous development. I don't see any part of that process that would prompt people to demonize Double Fine for years to come, unless you like talented developers wasting their time and money on a project that is only appealing to a very small set of people.
