Giant Bombcast 10/21/2014

HEY GUYS I KNOW ABOUT ELROY GOES BUGZERK! But this is a story of unrequieted love. I never played it, but I did own its prequel.

When I was a kid around 1995, my mom bought me a point n click fom Borders Books (they sold computer games back then) called Elroy Hits the Pavement. I think it was made by a very small development house, they may have been a family. It was about Elroy, this hoarse-voiced kid, whose dog gets stolen. He runs around town to learn that the local mafia has stolen all of the neighborhood's dogs and is holding them hostage in a big office building. I can't remember why, ultimately it didn't matter, but I distinctly remember there was a dog named Yamamoto. In the end, Elroy frees all the dogs and Elroy lays some phat be-bop scat over the credits.

The after-credits stinger was an ad for ELROY GOES BUGZERK, COMING SOON, but I was never able to find the game or anything about its release. In the end, I figured it must've never gotten out of development and I forgot all about Elroy...UNTIL NOW.

So thanks for the memories, guys! Elroy was aimed at kids a lot younger than I ala Putt-Putt, but I still got a kick out of his adventure.

According to the box art, it looks like Sega somehow had a hand in this. Yeesh!

I didn't know there were Premium podcasts. What's the deal with these, no commercials? Is there secret extra stuff?

I really enjoyed Jason on the podcast. Not that I didn't miss Drew, but Jason definitely added his personality to the podcast. He sounds very comfortable talking on mic.

@danryckert that story you told about going into the store and asking for a Fight Night Round 3 before release was something that I would do too. I asked for Ocarina of Time...like three days before release in Nov. '98. The lady at the desk in electronics was probably well into her sixties, maybe over 70. She got it for me. I played one of the greatest classics before most other people...using the same tactic you would.

Wow, Jeff has a lot more general knowledge about TNG than I would have guessed.

It'd be cool if we could get more Jason. Be that in the podcast or in quick looks.

RE 'giant phones' - The iPhone 6 Plus is huge because of bad design, it's bigger than even the Galaxy Note 4 despite that phone having a bigger screen. There are many people that use the Note line in one hand just fine, it's really not as outlandish as people think.

I have an LG G3 which is 5.5" and have no problems, super compact phone. It's way smaller than the 6 Plus even though it has the same screen size.

I remember picking up my preordered Dead Space 2 copy, when I went to buy Mass Effect 2 for PS3 on it's launch day - almost one week before it's actual release. Felt pretty happy about that.

I know I am the worst person in the world, but I just dislike Dan because his life seems to be this spectacular thing where he falls into amazing awesomeness and he's done nothing to deserve this.

Man, he is one lucky dude.

I have been saying Destiny was the "flop" of the year as well and then I thought back and remembered Watch Dogs. That game was hyped for two years and was supposed to be the first next gen blockbuster and instead it's a game hardly anyone liked or remembered.

I don't know if this was intentional, but think it's funny how you say the Wii U is in overdrive when Xbox One is the console with Sunset Overdrive.

@sintesi: I don't believe so. Its for subscribers who are obscenely offended by the sponsor adds in the regular Bombcast.

@murdoc_: He does do something, though. He asks them and offers video content in exchange. How many of us would even think of asking George Clinton to star in a home movie as a gangsta?

I had wondered why I didn't get a Premium podcast the last 2 weeks. Now I have subscriptions to the regular bombcast, this, and the Premium feed. I should probably kill the first one.

@allthatbacon: I just remember those times in UPF that Brad would wax mistily about the show, and Jeff would only give him the blank stare of death in response. ... But perhaps all that time alone together was getting to them by that point (like some kind of Sartrean vision of hell). :D
