i looked up the Belgium rental thing and the reason it got passed is because rental stores have been buying retail copies and renting out those.

Ahh. After refreshing my computer a zillion times to see election results, it was nice to geek out. So I listened to the bombcast AND looked at pictures of new boardgames from Essen Spiel. Yay.

The fact gamerental is now banned might in Belgium doesn't necessarily have anything to do with renting out sale-copies. Like most laws in Belgium they are dual at the least. Smoking pot in Belgium is legal but having it is not for example... Games are still allowed to be rented but they can't without permission (which they won't get).
It makes no sense at all this explanation but so does this law... videos, dvd's, cars, music are all rentable. Even libraries rent stuff (besides books) and many even have games (both pc as console) so what are they going to do about that?!

Main reasons this "law" passed through
- our inept government (which isn't really a government since they got elected) can't do anything logical due to being idiots or internal quarrels about our north-south relationships
- politicians do not have a clue & usually have ties (read: moneyinterests) in certain companies, one of which is:
- SABAM (our RIAA) who has already had a large hand in shaking money out of people who want to throw a party, have made sure we can't import blank DVD's and CD's cause they want us to pay a tax (auvibel - almost 1€ per dvd) and this is just one more step for them

Its a bullshit law from bullshit politicians and companies and they are indeed crazy, but a lot of things here are.

Man, totally agree with Red Alert 3 camera being too close. I'm playing at 1680x1050 and managing your base gets pretty ridiculous pretty fast as the base grows. I miss supcom's camera.
