Giant Bombcast 11-13-2012

We report in on our first week of Wii U ownership with a scathing treatise on the music of New Super Mario Bros. U, plus we share our latest thoughts on Halo 4, Black Ops II, Curiosity's life-changing secret, and the sexual enigma that is Michael Keaton.

The Giant Bombcast is the world's most beloved video game podcast, and now it's available in video form.

A review at its core is there to recommend whether or not you should buy a game. That's it! So when Jeff gives Black Ops 2 a favorable four-star review, he's saying that if you're at all interested in that kind of game, you should definitely check it out and consider buying it. Were it a five star review, he'd be saying it's super amazing and you should buy it regardless of your feelings on past CoD games. Three stars would show some hesitance and still be a mild recommendation, but below that would be a recommendation to avoid the game. I don't get what's so controversial about that. It's not archaic. It's fresh, it gets to the point, and it makes sense.

Reviews aren't the final word or "truth" but they're an honest analysis of whether the reviewer thinks you should invest your time and money into the game or not. That's it!

I don't know the little argument here. But ALL Reviews are Biased.

Why do you @ me as if I hold the opposite position? My two posts, more or less, go in that direction.

Hearing talk about Quantum of Solace as a 'piece of shit' makes me think that, as a reviewer, he can't see the middle ground with products. Things are either great or terrible. That movie was fine. It was competent. It was boring and forgettable. 3/5. Piece of shit though? Come on. Build a bigger vocabulary dude.

@JasonR86: Also called Twilight Princess a bad game during the WiiU launch stream. It was a perfectly competent Zelda title with a slow beginning.

@JasonR86: Could just be a product of the internet mentality. Where everything is either a horrible piece of shit, or it's the greatest thing ever made. Never anything in between.

I actually liked Quantum of Solace. I mean, it's nowhere near as good as Casino Royale or Skyfall, but still. The biggest problem the movie has, though, is that it's not really it's own film. The movie only makes sense if you've seen Casino Royale, and even then it only serves as this sort of 1 hour and 46 minute epilogue to CR. QoS also has some funny moments, that I'm not sure were intentional. Watching Dominic swing an axe while screaming like some murderous psychopath was entertaining. And him having a henchman murder some American agent just because he doesn't like that he's being looked at (nevermind that the dude just landed on the hood of his car).

I agree. It's not a piece of shit. If you want to talk bad 007 films, now Die Another Day...well...

I cringed when they claimed that Mario & Luigi was a deeper RPG than Paper Mario 1 & Thousand Year Door.

Jeff.. if you don't like Zombies don't play it! Spec ops is usually a bad re-hash of the campaign... Why is that better? I think Zombies is for people who want to be social with their video games... That's probably why you don't like it!
