@steveurkel: Jan said on Twitter that the video version might take a bit because there were audio issues during the stream.

I can be honest in saying: I couldn't give a rip about any of the "usual suspects" first party titles from Microsoft: Halo, Gears, Forza, Forza Horizons all seem to be so cookie cutter. 343 has really done a poor job with Halo, so much I won't buy any of the new ones now. After the last 3 years I am legitimately excited to see what Sony does with their first party lineup. They seem to be trying to strike a nice balance between nostalgia driven releases, doing some new, and doing something new & interesting with existing properties. I guess there is Crackdown 3 but I feel like with its delays its going to be another Crackdown 2...if it ever even comes out (which it probably will).

Rage 2 looks really cool. The combat looks, from what little bit you can see, like Doom's gunplay and movement.

Will's comment about "I can fill up PUBG every night with x mode" is a bit disingenuous. He knows they aren't joining for death match game play...they are joining for PUBG.

@rorie Any chance you'll be playing through Pillars of Eternity 2?. Edit: nm, you say something at the end :)

games where the "moral choices" are "if you take this person in they are objectively and totally (by measure of the game's defining mechanics) useless and detrimental to the player and NPCs" seem like theyre trying to communicate something that doesnt seem particularly true or valuable or incisive, especially today where govts are declaring, openly or covertly, children and the disabled to be tools of terrorism or parasites undermining the "productive" population

i was thinking recently it was a long time since we last saw will on the podcast. he's really good

e: also i think describing canada's "no name" brand food as "dystopian" (or whatever word it was) is silly, because its simply removing the advertising (or replacing the advertising with less intense advertising) on the box/carton/label. its not an uncommon sentiment and its telling that we see the advertising thats developed to exploit basic human reactions in order to drive sales as an expression of "freedom" or rather living in a culture/nation that is not a dystopia

This whole Rage 2 thing has been really weird. Bethesda's marketing team did a good job getting attention at the very least and the game does look neat. It's just a bizarre turn of events that the walmart leak forced their hand.

I agree to a point, but I can see where they are coming from. It's very reminisient of the ads in They Live, and it is certainly something you could see in a dystopia -- there's no differentiation, no competition allowed, there's only the name identifying the state-authorised product.

But that was his point. Plenty of people still like playing Deathmatch modes in games, but as a mode in a larger game, not as standalone combat-arena games.

I can see where they're coming from too, but I think it's important to consider the ideas we have around what we deem to be dystopian and how those ideas are informed by dominant ideals.

This is an obnoxious comments-section screed, but I'll write it anyway... The world in They Live is certainly a dystopia, but later on in the podcast they joke about the CIA knowing everything about us, a reference to the government mass surveillance we all live under. If we read a story about the machinations a government undertook in order to collect the data of every citizen inside (and sometimes outside) its borders through bulk data collection practices immune from legal oversight and hidden from the public, we would almost certainly describe it as a dystopian world. Yet it's unlikely that the average person would describe America as a dystopia, because America isn't like They Live, or 1984, or Animal Farm. We understand dystopia to be something austere and foreign; that makes it easier to ignore or justify the dystopia at home.

Will should try to get sponsored by the PUBG team since, based on this Bombcast and previous appearances, it seems to be one of the only games he is aware of and talks about at this point.

It really is. This might just be my lower-middle class upbringing talking here but I actually prefer a lot of no name foods to the big, brand-name versions. Especially the cookies, those things are delicious.

I love this podcast, and think you guys are always fun to view/watch. Saying that though, I don’t know if the addition of making the podcast video is responsible, but you guys have gotten really bad about talking over each other. It makes it hard to pay attention to what you’re talking about.

As someone that beat Streets of Rage 2 a thousand times and played it every day for hours, I honestly can't fathom how my fellow adults can still play 4 hours of the same game each day. Especially since there's so much out there.

Although Will seems to play all those, too...?
