Well, this was enough for me to order the game. This looks like a lovingly crafted remake :)

I just watched the "Pretending I'm a Superman" documentary before playing this. Was an amazing documentary and now I'm playing an amazing new Tony Hawk game. 2020 isn't all that trash it would seem.

Looks pretty good, but I'll never understand why game developers are so in love with ambient occlusion. A little bit really makes corners and areas where two surfaces meet, like ceiling and walls look good.

It's like reverb in music. You dial in a good reverb, and then dial it back until it's barely noticeable. Developers take ambient occlusion and then crank it up to 11.

Is anyone else having trouble staying in the pipe, or really just staying lined up on ramps in general? I'm just dicking around with different skaters right now trying to get back into the THPS rhythm (haven't played one of these since THUG and turns out it's kinda hard to remember to do combos for specials, Always Be Spinning™ and that it isn't true THPS until your skater is fully leveled up) and I'm having this real issue with my skater transferring out of the pipe/forward off the vert something like 90% of the time. I'm not holding forward or anything, half the time I'm holding down/left for a Benihana, but my skater keeps popping forward and I keep crashing.

So far I'm really liking the game but this one aspect is kind of bumming me out and I can't tell what I'm getting wrong. Is it a speed issue?

I don't think I've played a Tony Hawk game since Project 8. I loved that one and then fell off. I don't even remember what came after it.

Anyways. This one isn't a case of if I'm buying it, just when.

Oh and, that's a cool new angle of Jeff's room there.

This looks awesome! just wow. they did it. but I just don't have enough of a desire to revisit most of these levels. The maps are iconic and these games defined my childhood, but they almost seem too small and simple compared to levels in later entries.

I'd be way more into a THPS3 + 4 at this point.

EDIT: Sorry, I take back what I said. The levels feel great with the modern physics. Man am I happy to be playing it again at this point in my life.

So what was that V collectible?

Did Tony Hawk 1 predict the future, or are they just that tuned in with this remake? A deserted school campus predicting the Coronavirus pandemic, a decrepit mall predicting the downfall of physical retail locations, and a downtown Minneapolis with plywood covered storefronts that are common after this summer's protests.

I'm mostly joking, as I know these are just contemporary visual tweaks, and there are plenty of justifications for these decisions otherwise, but the campus slideshow that gave Jeff pause made the rest of the game's levels seem very prescient.

I think that lack of control at the beginning of levels is because the game doesn't recognize you preloading an ollie before the level starts. I was having the same problem. You can't beat Tony Hawk with half an X press, I guess.

If you collect all of them in each level, it unlocks... something. The challenge tracker has a section for secrets that that's a part of, but it doesn't tell you what it does until you get all of them.

I was never good at this game but watching it is great. Keep it up Jeff.

man I really want to play this. Does anyone know if the PC version is any good? I have an xbox 1x, but it's away in a closet at the moment, and im lazy...

Anyone know how the hell he switched grind/manual tricks so quickly to crank that multiplier up so high while continuing those combos? Seems like a useful trick that I'm not sure I ever learned back in the day.

Framerate is high, restarts are quick, playing on medium-high settings.

@riv3nt: Are you meaning how he changed grinds while still on the rail? And how to do flatland manuals? If so, it's a 2-button combo after each those have started, using the same buttons for Grab, Flip, and Grind.

Examples while doing a manual - Grab, Grind, will do a One-Footed Manual. Grab, Grab does a Handstand. Grind, Grind does a Pogo. You can keep pressing combos of those buttons to change tricks. Fun stuff to mess around with or mash buttons for bigger combos.

@cicatriz77: Yeah, that's what I was talking about but I figured it out eventually. I think I actually did know that at one time, but it was like 20 years ago so who knows lol. Sure makes high combos and scores a hell of a lot easier.

I want to buy this but may wait until a slight price drop, I played these far too recently to be as hungry as I should.

Does anyone know if this is a timed or permanent exclusive to the Epic Games store? I poked around online a bit but couldn't find an answer.
