i so wish they were playing career mode instead and actually learning as they go. the initial ridiculousness and hilarity of sandbox mode wears off when they crash into Mun 5 or 6 times...

They're learning plenty, they've already made a ton of progress. And they didn't have to spend 10 hours flying to Kerbin's poles taking soil samples in order to do it, either.

God, watching these is equal parts incredible and infuriating. Actually that's unfair, it's a lot more incredible.

Vinny worrying about minor efficiencies and trying not to get too high while not noticing he's burning into some weird, useless polar orbit is too good to get mad at :D

Why is the engine in the second stage all floppy? That seems bad.

I think the best part of this series is that after every fuck up there is a couple second long silence, followed by Alex going "What did we learn?"

Every time Austin calls out Vinny or Vinny "accidentally" jettisons the fuel tanks, I laugh so hard that I pee a little. CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE!

This is my favorite series.

That was fun

The big rockets in the first stage just kind of fire in a straight line out the back, but most of the liquid fuel engines in the game can control the craft's direction by tilting the nozzle at the end of the engine (like a rudder in a boat). In particular the main engine he's got for stage 2 is capable of some really powerful steering (it's super excessive for the size of the craft the guys made). Since the engine they're using is overpowered for their craft, it's hard for it to gently steer the ship, so it keeps going too much in one direction and having to overcompensate the other way in a repeating cycle, causing that wobble. They could avoid that by limiting how much the rocket's nozzle can tilt (called the gimble angle) by right clicking the engine (either in flight or in the build screen), but they're probably not going to stumble upon that by accident.

It's bad in that it makes the ship use a bit more fuel than it needs to, but it's not very significant compared to some of their other issues.

Great feature, I assume that every time you shift those fuel tanks, the fuel line breaks? It was an honest mistake, there's nothing that could have been done for that poor kerbal.

@vinny@austin_walker@alex Here is a nice little conversion table for you to easily convert m/s to mph (rounded to the nearest whole number), because you guys were way off on your estimation.

Remember! Get that 70 km number out of your head for the height you need before you start making an orbit around Kerbin, you should really be shooting for 100 km instead! You'll only be making it easier on yourself!

Remember! Use maneuver nodes better! You should only ever be firing your engines to do a maneuver at apoapsis. Not before, not after, and you need to (very nearly) always be doing it at full burn.

Remember! The space shuttle (for example) fires all of it's engines and boosters at the same time to get into orbit! You're just making it harder on yourself carrying all that weight in fuel not doing anything during lift-off!

Remember! Like I said in the last video! You're killing yourself with this crazy fuel tank/fuel line system! Keep it simple and save your sanity!

I'd say just get it on PC. There's a really big modding community for this game on PC and none of that would make its way to the Wii U version.
