For what I've gathered, they are just using "the cloud" as a term to mean dedicated servers and downloading things like driveatars. Also, people need to at least have a connection when they first buy it, so that still is somewhat of a barrier to people. I would think stores will allow people to setup their systems before taking it home if they really want it and live in a rural area.

That last question was pretty hilarious and a little uncomfortable. You could hear it in Marc Whitten's reaction.

Good interview...although considering going in he knew it would be a short interview...he could have chose a better question than asking about gamestop stock price.

Hearing people from MS talk, and not just in this case, it's pretty clear why it's rare that anyone steps outside the box at Microsoft when they speak. It always seems like there's a virtual gun at their head, making them choose words their words carefully and not pull an "Orth".

I'm glad that they reconsidered. I canceled my PS4 pre-order and pre-ordered my Xbox One as soon as I read Scoop's article.

So true. Most of this was seemingly read from a script. My favourite was the way he kept referring to 'Everyone telling us we fucked up and have shitty policies' as 'Gamers tell us what they love, and they tell us what they don't love'. Every response oozed with spin.

@saga: Yes.. because that will teach those guys not to mess with you again!....right? So much for strong opinions and values.

I own both consoles and the overall gaming experience is much better in the 360. Sure, it's nice that PSN+ gives you discounted and free titles to download such as Uncharted 3 but I feel like the PS store is down for "update" every other week. Xbox One made a mistake that they are rectifying and that's what matters. Sony is no saint. Their latest firmware update locked many consoles and I still haven't forgotten how they lost people's credit card and personal information a year ago and took 2 weeks to make a statement.

Man I don't know. I don't get a good feeling hearing this guy talk. Just because he says frankly a lot doesn't mean they are having a frank conversation. In fact it felt very slippery and vague.

To those who are buying Xbox Ones instead of PS4s solely because of this change....you just make me laugh.

I know! We're still months away from launch, MS basically said "We don't need your money!" until they realized nobody was buying drinks, and now they're all, "Well, now we'll take your money," and now drinks are on the houzzzzzzzz!

This sounded a lot better after reading it. He still pretty much dodged a lot of the questions but frankly it didn't seem soooo abd.

I'm baffled by how they underestimated the number of people that would say "fuck you" to their policies. The pre order numbers must have been complete garbage for them to turn around and say "JK guys."

They should put audio in the Interview Dumptruck and video into the Broadcast Dumpster.

At the end of teh interview to Marc say "Thank you...roger." It sure sounds like he says, "Roger" not Patrick.

Shouldn't have ended the interview with "How do you think Sony is reacting"? I little too pop column for Microsoft to take you seriously. Good interview though, I guess you were pressed for time.

Ever closer to a future where I don't even have to read articles anymore as they're all gonna be available in audio form - in the cloud.

Frankly?

Honestly, this interview is a little depressing. He keeps using words like "passionate" fans and focuses on what people "loved" about the system.

It bums me out and here's why. Sure Microsoft is a business and their best interest is the most money possible... but there are still a lot of people who work there, people in the trenches and above, who are passionate about the xbox and love games and just want to bring the best console to people.

Obviously, the vast majority of people didn't want what xbox was selling. But the way they were dragged through the mud....

Just like that guy who exploded on twitter about the always online stuff, I'm sure there is a bunch of depressed people there. A lot of people who just feel like they want to make the best console they can, and the gamers hate them for it.

It's the most depressing part of working in the video game industry for me. The passion people have for gaming can create some beautiful things. But it can be such a double edged sword. It results in such vitriol sometimes. And it sucks.

Seems to me the vast majority of Xbox fans thought the 'Family Sharing' meant ten people could have any game in your library designated for sharing. Except now it turns out it was only supposed to be a 45 min demo before being sent to the marketplace. Pretty much these same people are now lapping up Microsoft's "reversal" as if there aren't similar catches. As if a company that signaled it's anti-consumer intentions from the outset, deliberately and continually uses vague and misleading "information" regarding it's product, are suddenly trustworthy.

Sigh, I really don't like Microsoft spokespeople and executives. They always come off as smarmy assholes.

But hey - they fixed most of what I didn't like, so if they show me a game I want I'll actually consider picking up their console now.

Good for them.
