His heart might be in the right place (?) but hearing him talk about asset libraries and OT is kind of gross. I get passion is passion, but seriously, expecting that any great work needs OT is a good thing is not a philosophy I believe in. And yeah, asset libraries are cool, but you farming royalty free stuff or getting a $20 fx pack says a lot about our industry, quality, and art.

And agreed with mancopter about "AAA Indie" I hate the term "AAA" in itself, so applying that to indie is just awful.

I still get the same impression when he announced this whole endeavor; he's a smart guy, he saw an opening to continue working, so he said Unity 400 times in 20 minutes and how awesome it is to be independent (and I realize he is one developer that would understand how awesome it is to be independent) but I don't think he "gets" the philosophy and heart behind it.

Listening to an interview of this man makes me realise why Oddworld is the series it is. He appears to have morphed into Richard Garriot from his longer hairstyle days.

Whenever his voice get a little craggy, he is a slight pitch-shift away from the Slig vocals he did for Abe's Oddysee. One of my favourite people in the industry.

As with all interviews with Lorne Lanning it always comes down to how shafted he was by everyone else in the world. He goes on and on about how unfair it all is, how very unfair it all is despite the fact that he is signing contracts that spell out exactly how he or the people he works with will be compensated. Never once is it that someone broke a contract with his, but rather how it is just all so "unfair".

Nobody will ever convince me that Lorne Lanning are not the most disreputable, unethical, or unscrupulous person trying to make 'a buck' in the industry. Nothing is every their fault, they make a game taht doesn't spark gamers interest...well THAT was the marketing. Try to finance games like movies and lose all teh money, well that was the 'financiers/backers' fault. Nothing is every a failure just because 'it is' or 'he failed', failure is always a conspiracy against him.

What is next? My guess is Lanning blames Kickstarter backer for having unrealistic expectations; or maybe, fans demanding too much without understanding how games are made.

He was right about AAA indie, though. People have now accepted higher price points for higher quality along with production values. $20 and up is a thing now. No Man's Sky, The Witness, Superhot, The Talos Principle, Firewatch, all the early access games. They're the new mid-budget games, which had previously died in the last generation.
