I love how even Drew thinks Vamp is too stupid for words. The worst part of Metal Gear Solid is when it goes for full magic instead of science fantasy.

@danryckert@drewbert I think you have noticed by now that the game is quite easy on normal settings. You'll rarely die from being killed during boss battles at all. Especially compared to the previous game.

I would wholeheartedly recommend playing the next game (MGS3) on either hard or extreme difficulty. Don't worry, they are far from hard or extreme and I think you will have a much more enjoyable experience because of it. Especially when it comes to the boss battles (which MGS3 does better than all other Metal Gear games).

Most of the people who dislike MGS4 complain that it explains away all the magical stuff, like Vamp for instance, with science fantasy. There are a lot of people who prefer the unexplained magical stuff in the series over the science stuff. Although, not all of the magical stuff in the series is explained away, even after MGS4.

@danryckert@drewbert Semtex and quite a few other explosives are not shock sensitive, but some types of blasting caps totally are shock sensitive. Its possible to detonate a blasting cap by crimping it improperly let alone shooting it.

Agh. Other level 3 doors remained in strut f including one that was on screen as he ran out. Mostly just ammo and supplies but the psg1-T was in there somewhere.

Vamp has nothing to do with vampires at all (well somethings but he is not a vampire of any kind, despite how he caries himself) but it is a reference to him being bisexual. Dunno if it is a slur, have never heard it used that way outside of MGS2.

@kasaioni: Not really explaining it can work (Psycho Mantis, The Sorrow) but I always found Vamp was way more blatant about it in MGS2. Everything being said Vamp is just a terrible character I guess (together with quite a few/most characters/bosses in MGS2).

@fnert_bjerglen: Also the grenade launcher, but none of that is mandatory.

@drewbert It's not necessary, but you might've noticed that you have a "grip level" when hanging off of ledges. You can raise your grip level to hang onto stuff for way longer, by either doing 100 pull-ups per level (which takes forever), or by dropping from one grip point to one below it, which takes 10 times per level.

If you go back to the Strut D Sediment Pool, you can hang off the top level, hit X to drop down, and hit Triangle to grab onto the level below before falling into the water. It only takes a few minutes to get to grip level 3, and the extra hanging time can be a lifesaver.

Jason might care about it, since there's a trophy tied to it.

Also, it's easier to hold guys up if you don't go into first-person to do it. Just hold Square to raise your gun when you're behind them. You can run with your gun up like that by holding L1, which also automatically aims at the nearest enemy.

Oh, yeah, and try calling Pliskin while you're in a cardboard box...

I thoroughly enjoy Magic Gear Solid.

Drew should re-watch the previous episode before starting the new one especially if they are going to wait so long between episodes.

With how bad they're razzing Raiden now, I wonder how Drew will feel after the end of MGS2, and then the end of MGS4. Most fans of MGS that I know that had issues with him in 2 ended up really liking him after 4.

Man I almost had a heart attack when they weren't going to go back to get the sniper rifle. I just kept thinking about how screwed they would be when protecting Emma cross the Strut L bridge.

Part 10

I think when snake said "stop impersonating him" he may have actualy been refering to the fact that solidus is the splitting image of bigboss. Just a thought i had rewatching the game.

I have not finished the video yet but, in the conversation after the cutscene, it seems as if Dan and Drew both missed some information in Otacon's dialogue at 38:34?!

Hey Dan, Drew, love this series watching it back to back, it seems like this is the episode that game volume is suuuper low in comparison to your voices. Not sure it warrants a remaster since most people wanting to watch this series has already watched this episode, but it would be cool to get the game audio bumped up. Seems like all the videos recorded this day had the game volume low.

That bomb mission is the best, just when you think you got all the bombs, you got one left.

Can't believe nobody was doing this. Ah well.
