Less than a minute in and I'm mad at Dan. Not only did he make Drew backtrack, but for no reason. There are 2 or 3 opportunities to get the therms later in the game, before he needs them.

After the MGS V announcement I thought I couldn't get any more hyped, but now this is here.

I'm so happy Drew gets the croc cap.

People asked for it all these years and Dan and Scan(lon) deliver: The endurance run is back, baybeeee!!!

Also this game is so amazing. It's the very definition of what a 'sandbox game' should be.

Does Drew know that you can change the camo colours on the main menu as well as change the animation speed?

@phoenixlol: That's what I thought since Drew brought up that point almost immediately. MGS as a whole has been pretty good about rewarding people who explore early but not handicapping people who miss items by giving them a little out later on.

MGS really isn't a good series to do in small chunks, anyways. You really get the full experience from prolonged exploration, caution, and fact checking from your comrades. This is awesome to watch Drew go through it, but it's really painful hearing Dan commandeer and try to force Drew to do things.

That said, Drew is getting used to playing Snake Eater SO much better than the previous two. I'm loving how much better he's getting at these games.

I made a new friend today and we talked about Metal Gear Solid for hours.

*sees Croc Cap in thumbnail, is extremely happy that they backtracked*

Spoiled food is NEVER worth the stomach ache, your stamina will all go away in a blink and a loud tummy can be heard by enemies. You can skip the video when Snake eats by hitting circle. They only play once anyway. If you eat a snake, then walk through to a new map you will not see that video again anyway.

Well alright. Was almost bummed that they missed this.

"This isn't your area Drew." Yeah, and he wouldn't be there if Dan didn't make him backtrack. Not sure adding 35 mins to the playthrough was worth it for the Croc cap (which he'll rarely if ever use) and therms which he'll be able to get later. Love ya Dan, but damn.

Drew should also pay closer attention to his silencers. Shooting 6 or 7 times to take out one guy depletes them super quick.

I hate to be that guy, but Drew would have a much easier time if he just crawled instead of running around. Great series regardless :)

I just started a new playthrough to go along with Drew and a strategy that I've started going with whenever things take a dive is killing myself with the fake death pill and starting the area over. Maybe it's just me, but all the junk that Jeff has complained about in this game becomes a lot more tolerable after you realize when to cut your loses in scenarios.

Also, sneaking around, as opposed to shooting your way through conflicts, helps a lot more in this game because you can hunt some animals while crawling around. Two birds with one stone.

RadioShack went out of business? I should go tell all the employees at my local RadioShack... They won't be happy to hear that.

YUP, I still don't like MGS3, the game is so annoying to play, the worst in the series by far.

Regarding enemies and their alertness:

Guards are more aware of activities occurring around them. Noises in particular will raise attention. So while you are shooting a suppressed weapon, you're hitting an enemy in the neck who then cries out in pain. Anyone in the area will hear that and investigate. Earlier when you were tranqing the dog, same thing, the dog yelps and the guard hears it and comes to check it out.

Dan made Drew backtrack for no reason lmao. You can get the thermals later!!!!!!!!

And he probably would have missed those too. It's fine.

Part 3 is proof that the crowd doesn't always know what's best. I'm pasting a few lines from my previous comment:

Drew, you've been doing great this series!

I think that's what's pissing people off about Dan's tips. Since Drew has been doing so much better, they're worried that Dan might break Drew's flow. @danryckertDan, you don't need to hold your tongue so much as Drew should consider ignoring you in certain situations.And if Dan can't be ignored, a simple "I got this" by Drew might work(?).

And the guard sees him the second he says that.

Don't use the 1911. If you shoot a guard with a lethal weapon but don't manage to kill him in a single shot (which can be difficult at range without max stamina), he will always retreat and call HQ for backup. If you shoot him with the Mk22, he won't immediately go into caution, but will instead try to investigate the origin of the shot. The tranquilizer will have almost certainly have taken effect long before he reaches you, even if it's just a shot to the arm or leg.

Goddammit Dan, that tick story!

Ugh. Just. Just let Drew play the way he wants. He easily got by the area with the dogs the first time because he was patient and enjoying himself. Make him backtrack and he gets frustrated.

Please just tell Drew that if he crawls with the right camo, he can get by almost any guard in the game without them noticing. It's slow going, but it works in a pinch.

I don't get why you can't tell Drew HOW to play the game. It's fine for you to not guide him every step of the way, but watching him play without knowing how the mechanics work is just frustrating. Things like taking off leeches, curing food poisoning, and EATING are pretty basic. I just think this series would be more enjoyable for everyone involved if Drew actually knew how to play the game he's playing.

The fact is that Kojima crams a lot of peculiar mechanics into his games that are difficult to grasp with "gaming intuition". It's almost REQUIRED to have someone reinforce the basics for you when you're a beginner. I used to find MGS frustrating too until I watched Youtube videos of people who know how to play.
