I'm getting a little annoyed by how Dan seems eager to spoil or make Drew think twice about how the story is progressing rather than just letting Drew experience it himself. He's kinda like that guy you know that spoils an exciting part in a movie or story by tensing up and going "OH WATCH THIS".

Something prevented it from being on the site, but the vid was viewable for a while by some URL tinkering.

It kills me that Drew keeps getting frustrated by the guards.

DREW! Either kill them with your silenced pistol, or knock them out with Stun Gernades!

That being said, this is absolutely one of my favorite Giant Bomb features, and I hope that they continue through the whole MGS saga!

They do a great version of Whiskey in the Jar, which I'm pretty sure is the one that Metallica covered. Also there's few people more cool than Phil Lynott.

Can't wait for the next section, I definitely wonder how Drew'll handle the "stairs" and bossfight.

I always forget how difficult this game was. There's nothing intuitive or standard about how it controls, so it's kinda like classic survival horror in that you're defenseless if you don't know how to cheese everything. I hope Drew doesn't let it get him down too much; you're kinda supposed to die a ton in this game.

Ha, perfect that Drew managed to get out of the cell that way. Kind of encapsulates everything that has happened thus far. Keep up the good work...and good luck with those stairs. Hoo boy...that's going to be a LONG episode.

Brilliant screengrab, brilliant episode as always. I really REALLY hope this continues on throughout the series and doesn't stop with the end of MGS 1.

The reason why Drew isn't doing that great at the game is because he always has auto-fire on. Drew just can't turn it off. It's in his genes.

Dan's right, Drew really should be using wall knocking a lot more. When you can force guards to go to a particular spot (and they hang out there quite a while), it's a lot easier to get around than just constantly using the cardboard box and trying to force your way through their patrol routes.

The more codec conversations I watch, the more Campbell looks like Trautman. I might be dumb for not noticing it first, but I don't think it's a coincidence.

The download alone wasn't good enough, I need the video on the website damn it!

Drew is a film quote maniac! Kojima would love him.

It looks like he's getting into it as well. The laconic action star groove is a good mindset to have when you're the Legendary Solid Snakeâ„¢.

It's funny to see just how much Dan wants to tell Drew about a certain dead person. Good thing he managed to contain himself.

yeah i find it amazing he is able to be so quiet about about all the things going on and can control himself.

also the little thing about the guard, the he has a cold because of Meryl and why he constantly has an upset stomach, that is revealed in 4 i think its pointless but so freaking awesome

also there are 3 ways of getting out of the cell. as far as i know

1. hide under the bed

2. use the ketchup

3. survive the torture sequence 5 or 6 times and gray fox will come and slice up the guard and let you out

Man, it's killing me that, after 9 hours, Drew still isn't snapping anyone's neck (which gives you rations) or using stun grenades to escape the alert phase. Still fun to watch, though.

I remember struggling with the torture sequences as a kid. I did eventually get the Meryl ending, though. Drew, on the other hand, knocked it out of the park.

I just started my own MGS playthrough last night, i'm not up to where Drew is yet but i feel like i need to play it myself to understand his hardship.

I will say that the neck snapping is harder than it looks, you gotta be right up in the enemy's ass to pull it off. I screwed it up a few times cause the camera angle had part of the level blocking my view.

Absolutely! The finer details and little nuances really make the difference between the original and Twin Snakes. I'm a big fan of both games for their own reasons and get kind of down when people trash on Twin Snakes. It's a revision with 2 console generations of separation, so of course it is going to be different in some ways. People who hate it just to hate it, probably haven't given it a fair shake, or even played it at all.

Drew really would benefit from rushing a bit more when traveling trough areas. He has seen how easy it is to sneak past people as long as you are out of their view-cone and by waiting so much at every new enemy he is making it harder:p Fun as hell to watch though:P

Also, snap them or shoot them;)

It's crazy how much this video series has ranged from actually fun to straight up unenjoyable and frustrating to watch. This episode was very much the latter.

This series got me into Metal Gear Solid. Last year I bought the HD Collection on the Vita, tried playing both 2 and 3, and couldn't get too far in either before getting frustrated, even though I really liked how goofy the narrative was.

Since this series started, I beat 3 and then 2, and now I'm making my way through 4 while using these videos as my "playthrough" of MGS1. Not the most orthodox order and method of play, but it's worked out thus far!

This. I don't think I've ever seen anybody have such a hard time against the grunts. Most of it comes down to a lack of confidence from Drew to actually engage the targets. Stun grenades are ridiculously overpowered; they take out all enemies in the area for a short duration.

After so many hours of gameplay how is Drew still struggling with this?

Use the silenced pistol or snap their necks. If you get seen use a stun grenade and run out the room. Forget everything else!!!
