Metal Gear Scanlon: V: Ground Zeroes

I am almost always crouched in this game.

Drew's truck method was great though.

@redhotchilimist: This game does look more grim and less verbose I would say but I think people portraying MGSV as "without the crazy" have been missing all the crazy in all the trailers and videos. I don't want to spoil things but all the crazy seems to be there, just with some different story telling and darker elements.

Skullface is not Volgin. Just for an example of the crazy, Volgin is in V as a fiery ghost it seems. Or maybe he's real and a fiery demon? Big Boss has hallucinations in V so this is unknown. But yeah, crazy.

All those briefing tapes and diaries that Dan calls "optional" really aren't. They sorta gloss over the whole "UN Nuclear Inspection Team" in the opening, all that stuff is pretty important to listen to.

Given how much other stuff they looked at they should of checked out the tapes. They're as important as like the briefing in 1 with getting the right set up to your mission.

You've already answered that for yourself, just don't play it.

Wow, the end to that mission was really gross and in more than one way. Now I actually don't regret not downloading the game while it was free.

Also, as someone who has no affinity for the series, I greatly prefer Sutherland over Hayter.

Wow, Ground Zeroes played properly kicks ass. Drew killed it, miles better than my playthroughs. And I've been at this stuff since Tenchu 1.

And I never noticed all the one-shot cutscenes, that's some impressive stuff.

Long takes are my favorite thing in cinema, I hope Kojima is going to make as much use of them as it appears from GZ. Perfect medium for it too.

Joining the David Hayter train. After a year of Metal Gear Scanlon this seems even odder than it did at first. Kiefer just sounds like Kiefer. Not bad, but definitely not Snake. Recasting an iconic gaming voice with a famous celebrity is really Kojima at his most self-indulgent.

@csl316: Kojima said his goal for MGSV was to have no cuts in any of the cutscenes.

Quality play-through! Drew is the true Big Boss.

According to private correspondence between author Upton Sinclair and Fred Moore(http://articles.latimes.com/2005/dec/24/local/me-sinclair24, http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5245754), they were both guilty and Sinclair lied about it because he was worried that it would cost him readers.

I had exactly one brief moment of being weirded out by the new voice and then quickly realized that oh this sort of sounds like how an actual person would talk this is probably way better.

@blackout62: They most certainly were not in peace walker. Marking, live intel calls, d-pad weapon select, full rotational prone aiming (PW didn't even let you move in prone lol.)

Peace Walker is a great game, but as far as gameplay improvements it was a step back.

So they're just scenes?

God I hope MGSV features less gross shit. Hamstring bolts, digging in a womans abdomen and fucking headphone jack in chest.

Is it explained anywhere why he has a headphone jack in his chest?

I have no issue with it but I should ask....when is Dan not talking all the time?

You guys should definitely listen too the tapes and collect the optional ones too. They shed a light into some of the physical and psychological torture Chico and Paz endured.

This last month has me super hyped for Phantom Pain now. Kojima you brilliant bastard.

@kasaioni: It really seems like Kojima was pushing his team and himself to go into uncharted areas with this game. I'm unbelievably excited for it. All my time is pretty much been devoted to work, MGScanlon, and /r/MetalGearSolid.

It's a semi jarring thing to see Paz in such detail after seeing her in PsP graphics-I only played like the first 45 min of Peacwalker in the collection.

@danryckert@drewbert it's funny, my first play through I did the Drew methodical method and as soon as I got Paz I did the Dan method. My one tip to @drewbert (sorry I've never tipped you before but I'm drunk rn) use the r3 more. Switching over the camera shoulder will give you a better perspective and line up shots better for you. Just imagine you are doing a long Scorsese shot where you are doing it all in one take.

Loved all the MGScanlon this past week. It's built so much hype for me. MGS V-along with GTA V-will prolly be my most anticipated games ever.

Wow @ the hassle it was just to look at the controls on xbone, who the hell thought that was a good idea? Are all games like that on this system?

@drewbert@danryckert The "Pre-Mission Briefing" tapes are the ones people are referring to as important to the story. They explain the whole IAEA inspection stuff. But Chico's tapes are not as important, and I don't recommend that anyone with a low tolerance for shock value listen to them.

I'd really like to play the MGS 1 story with this gameplay.

But if they use Kiefer's voice they can fucking keep it.

Holy crap, the way Drew got Paz to the helicopter was one of his biggest moments on Metal Gear Scanlon

Just played this for free with games with gold. God this plays so well.

Played this today. This game plays great and I am fine with games addressing serious tones like sexual abuse and whatnot. But I just don't trust Kojima to do that stuff without doing something inappropriate. Based on the crap in the previous games, the guy is such a pervert that I can't imagine him writing about a vagina bomb without snickering and/or being a total weirdo.

It was the perfect payoff to a year's worth of getting Alerts.

I got so angry when Keifer Sutherland said "Kept you waiting, huh?"

Just watched this for the first time, Drew's escape at the end was seriously impressive!

When Snake removes the NVG's (right at "kept you waiting"), he just throws them over his shoulder? Those must be expensive!

Wow, I actually learnt something from this. I didn't know you could peek around walls and I've played this game for 20 hours.

Also, that truck extraction was amazing.

I'm actually really unsettled by what happens to Paz in this. Like, it's terrible and potentially perverse in a way that I don't think a "horrors of war" argument defends. I'm also kinda upset by how eager Dan was about more "dark themes" in Phantom Pain and his matter-of-fact statement of vagina bomb.

Definitely not worth forty bucks.

Through the power of a hyperbolic time chamber of Metal Gear Solid, @drewbert has become Solid Snake. (Rather than Big Boss, because while Big Boss is awesome, Solid Snake has defeated him many times, not to mention his true foe)

Credit to Drew, across like 3 games now, he has never decided to just hide and wait out an alarm. You had to in MGS1 and MGS2 because reinforcements appear forever until you let the alarm die out, but once MGS3 to MGS5 happened, Drew's strategy of "gun them all down until the area literally runs out of guys" has been his MO.

It bums me out a little, because I think finding a place to hide on short notice is one of the most fun parts of stealth games.

They played Drew like a damned fiddle!!!!
