I'm not usually bothered by spoilers, but weird twists are like the heart and soul of Metal Gear.

IIRC, @danryckert@drewbert, part of the zaniness around the original Joakim Mogren "interview" Keighly did was that it wasn't an actor but a CGI man rendered in Fox Engine. Not sure if that's something that happened, but I know people were arguing about it, since the face wraps allowed better rendering. No need to render hair, after all.

I would argue that the story of peace walker is the least relevant(read: interesting) part of that game. It's probably my favorite mgs game, and mgs V is set to bring back and improve on a lot of the stuff that game did. In short I am fucking stoked.

Ok I never thought I'd say this but I can safely say I've reached my saturation point on Metal Gear content.

'Super Fan' Dan not realising that was Miller. Not only that, confusing him for Campbell; Roy and BigBoss formed Foxhound in Portable Ops as a counter unit to FOX which had been taken over by radicals in that game, he would have known that if he played it (or at least watched the super cut) instead of ignoring it because it's a PSP game.

Foxhound is not some 'crazy offshoot made later' as Dan claims it's the Unit BB created himself with campbell in the 70's and he actually takes command of again in 1995 when a certain young solid snake is a member and Campbell is the Second in Command (original Metal Gear game).

Also, the 'Blonde Solid Snake' Stuff in MGS1 has been debunked thousands of times, he's not blonde the art style just makes it look that way, He's also not blonde in the original Metal Gear or Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake either Kojima has confirmed this. Does solid snake come off as a dude that would keep dying his hair and beard brown EVEN AFTER HIS BROTHER DIED?

It's pretty clear you have never played MG1 or MG2. Solid Snake, Campbell, Miller, Dr Madnar, Frank Jaeger and Big Boss are all in MG2 and it ties a bunch of questions you have up. Load up the HD collection and play it, you have no excuse

Did you also get confused who Brad was when he changed his hair awhile back, or maybe when Jeff wears a new shirt? You even outright say "it's not miller...its that other commander looking dude...thats not miller". HE HAS NO LEG, NO ARM, BLOND HAIR, BIG AVIATORS. YEAH, MAYBE IT'S CAMPBELL. Alright, Dan and this series has gotten me hyped enough to buy The Phantom Pain despite only ever having played the NES port and Ground Zeroes before.

The horn is most likely shrapnel from the explosion and it "growing" is just the body slowly pushing it out 'cause that happens sometimes.

I loved all the digging people did in that original teaser, completely unnecessary. The dude has a mullet, it's obviously Metal Gear.

In fairness to Dan, he never played Peace Walker, and a ton of fleshing out of Miller and company is not in the cutscenes of that game, but is instead in the tapes that basically, for all intents and purposes, replaced the codec in PW (there's also a lot of conversations with Miller that are interspersed between the end of missions and returning to Mother Base that were not included in that youtube video they watched). I imagine that would have helped significantly in identifying both his voice and just having more reason to care about the character, so he would be more than just "that guy Liquid impersonates in MGS1."

Also, yeah, probably worth mentioning that Solid Snake was never blond... I mean, who knows, Kojima could totally retcon that in TPP, or his hair from when he was a child could theoretically have darkened over time (it happens), but I think Dan was inferring something from the MGS 1 briefing stuff that wasn't meant to be implied.

@danryckert I'd check out the cassette tapes in Ground Zeroes for a little more set-up to what's going on with these characters going into The Phantom Pain if you're interested. There's some interesting stuff there that can be inferred from Huey's dialogue, and it touches briefly on Strangelove and Cecile's (French bird lady) whereabouts.

Even if you want to avoid the Skullface torture ones, those are all locked away in Chico's Tapes 1-7 while the pre-mission background stuff is located under "Info" (second option from the left in the Cassette Tape menu), and Paz's diaries from Peace Walker are under the 4th tab "Tape Archives."

I'm not the biggest MGS fan, but I thought those trailers were pretty great. They actually got me excited for Sep. 1st, if only to hear Dan and the rest of GBs reactions to the game.

But seriously, who IS that guy who's wearing Miller's glasses, Miller's clothes, and looks just like Miller?

I had very little interest in playing MGS5 but watching this and seeing the ending of 4 again has got me pumped. I'm really hoping the game isn't ridiculously long so that I have a chance of maybe going through it myself. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to fall back on Let's Plays to experience it. Or... I suppose I could wait and hold onto hope that one day there's be a final Metal Gear Scanlon V series >,<

Well at first I wasn't going to get MGSV on launch day, but now I feel I need to relish in this hype train that's obviously going off the rails right now!

I am kind of worried about what Dan said about the Mother Base invading near the end of the video. I'm kind of wondering about these notifications that we get when someone invades our base and how intrusive they will be, if at all, during cinematics. I mean I'm pretty sure if I'm watching some intense cutscene and out of nowhere a message letting me know xXxliquidsnake420xXx is invading my base it's gonna kinda pull me out of the experience in a jiffy. I mean it's not that big of a deal, but I'm just wondering how they're going to handle it. Especially the frequency of these invasions.

This is where I stop. All I've seen of Phantom Pain is the release trailer. I'll watch this after I finish PP.

Your MAIN motherbase will never be invaded.

However, you can expand and create other bases in completely different locations. It's an easier way to get extra resources, but those bases are free for invasion.

Also, regarding the question of "does anyone else have their voice actor changed for this game," Ocelot is newly voiced by Troy Baker. Regardless of your feelings on the change with Big Boss, this one definitely makes sense. Ocelot is too old to have the boyish voice of MGS3, and not old enough to have the raspy accent of the games later in the timeline.

@teoball: A lot of it is footage from the first trailer and from Ground Zeroes. There are some cool snippets from what maybe is later portions of Phantom Pain, but relatively safe to watch I'd say. To be honest, when they showed all these trailers side by side, it's a whole lot of torturin' going on.

S guys can you tell me where stand this MGS V in timeline for all metal gear solid series? Is it before mgs 4 or after? Plz explain ;)

I'm convinced Dan is Miller to Drew's Snake. He continues to feed him misinformation, seemingly by accident, but perhaps there is a dark intention in it all. Is Dan really on our side? Do we know for sure he isn't a triple agent with Game Informer and Gamespot?
