@who42knows: The FOB stuff is completely optional. I don't plan on doing it really at all during my first playthrough really. We do know that the notification gets sent the moment the invasion starts, not if/when the invader gets spotted by your guards. I'd guess that since the HUD goes away during cutscenes, the notifications do as well and you'll get pinged once you're out. The only other thing that makes sense to me is that your base would be temporarily uninvadable while your'e in a cutscene. We'll find out soon though I guess!

@zabant: Great post, just wondering about the hair colour thing. Was there no mention of hair dye in the original MGS1 briefing vids? I remember Snake cutting his hair short, but I thought he changed the colour as well? I guess if what you say is true then I was confused by the artwork on the briefing tapes. So Liquid and Solid naturally have different hair colour?

@edmundus: The official explanation for the hair differences between solid and liquid is the different gene expressions, a result from activating the dominant genes in one clone and the recessive genes in another.

Big Boss carries the genes for having both blonde and brown haired children.

Considering in MGS1 it's very clear that Solid has never met Liquid and isn't even aware he's a clone or even has a brother, it shows that the final shot in the trailer is not of BOTH liquid and Solid.

In fact, it's a duplicate of the exact same model, including the jackal teeth necklace (In liquids backstory he talks of hunting jackals in the middle east)

In all likelihood it's a hallucination, could be solidus also, thought I doubt it.

Liquid grew up in England and at some point ended up in the middle east, it's never stated when he left the UK.

Solid is a true born american and never left the US till he was already a soldier.

That final shot is of Two Eli's (Liquids). People saying it's solid are taking part in wishful thinking, and at worst begging for fanservice.

Like Dan, I don't really quite understand Jeff's concerns that there won't be enough of a Metal Gear-y narrative in this game. It's just that everything around the main narrative is so much bigger that it's not so narrowly focused on.

Totes was. They specifically mention his blonde hair in the briefing. It was rumoured Kojima attempted to retcon it in Twin Snakes but I'm guessing he either re-retconned it back to blonde or just never did it, but yes. 100% Solid Snake has natural blonde hair.

Not to be 'that guy' who has to justify Kiefer Sutherland with some abetrary argument, but following that logic, it does makes sense that Hayter isn't the one who voices Big Boss. He's 10 years older than in Peace Walker and they did change his voice in MGS4, so with that in mind I guess it makes some amount of sense? I of course know Kiefer also voiced Big Boss in Ground Zeroes, although he barely had any lines in that game.

The elusive Miller continues to thumb his nose at the authorities. Swaggering about in a garish new hat, he seemed to say, "Look at me, Dan Ryckert! I have a new hat!"

So, as someone who hasn't played any Metal Gear, is the overall story really so complicated as Dan makes it out to be?

The 'Quiet is an older & now transgender Chico' rumour is actually my favorite speculation at the moment. The age matches up, the eye colour & the motivation behind cutting out his own tongue & the cryptic reply from Kojima on his account regarding criticism about Quiet's sexist character design.

Of course that doesn't explain the fading mascara reminiscent of The End or why she can now blink dagger but hey, it'll be fun finding out! ;p

Man MGSV is such a good looking game, damn.

I got Ground Zeroes eventually but only ended up watching a friend play through it, I should play it myself, get some stuff done and familiarize myself with the controls before 5 comes out.

Just by playing the games? Yeah, very much so. I'm sure it can make more sense if you go around reading Wikis etc., but making it all make sense by just playing the games is hard.

It can be, if you want to put specific characters under a microscope to deduce their motives. It's really no more complicated than any given spy movie or spy series like Jason Bourne / James Bond if you look at it from a distance.

This hype wrap-up could have used a little horse poop for a stinger, but otherwise good job. I hadn't seen the last two trailers, I think I'd officially entered a hype-neutral state by then, thinking the reveal of open world Afghanistan was enough for me. Had no recollection of this Eli character, for example.

And as someone who never played Peace Walker, after watching that supercut I'm curious if the arm Big Boss gets attached is Zadornov's.

I think he's on point with the whole Solid Snake being blonde thing, though. If he wasn't blonde before, they probably retconned it into it being the case now.

I would go so far as to say that he is Liquid pretending to be Miller. Only a true bad guy would force other to play Mario Party.

Oh, he knows he's bad. What he's wondering (as well as everyone else) is why exactly they're showing him talking with Big Boss in neutral to good terms and hanging out with him like it's no biggie.

He might be "good" in the sense that he will be an ally to us in the game. Or at a shaky ally.

I wish Dan had let Drew infer on his own things about the trailers before telling him. I know you're excited, Dan, but it would have been cool to see if Drew picked up on Psycho Mantis and Liquid before telling him.
