Quick Look: Nancy Drew: Midnight in Salem

The animated movement between spaces makes this look like a dungeon crawler. I wonder if the developers felt obligated to keep it because of the older games.

Abby, thank you for your thoughts on the value of these games! I didn't grow up with them, but I wish I had! I hope the team turn things around.

Multnomah Falls is one of the framed pictures on the stairs near the start. Neat!

@humanity: I played realMyst as my first Myst game and I had no problems with the free movement. When I moved onto Riven, the locked camera positions were weird to me. I think I felt like I had less of a sense of the world and environment, so the space wasn't as fully featured in my head.

I get some of the points she is making but the ones I don't get are these - she said the world feels empty yet in the last Clue Crew she took a train to a pachinco parlor in Japan and saw nobody, her comparison about the beginning of the game that the old one had a puzzle right away yet so did the new one even if the maze puzzle was easy so was stacking things, her complaint about the subtitles not giving you the full conversation if a game has voice acting there is no reason that you should be able to read what the character is going to say before they say it though subtitles are the first thing I turn off in a game I can't stand them unless a character is speaking in a different language, she complains about having to do a puzzle for nothing again last Crew Clue there was 2 puzzles that did nothing, and lastly about the chase part not letting you fail it the deaths in the old games were dumb and annoying having to sit though unskipable dialog about why you have to return home so if they got rid of that good.

Did the developers of this game find the Google Maps Street view thing and go "Oh hell yeah, that's what this Nancy Drew game needs!"

the house navigation immediatly reminded me of Tender Loving Care. I did like the way they swooped the camera into the lock. That looked pretty snazzy. But yeah, they lost all sense of character by transitioning to this new engine. These characters would fit in Farming Simulator , Tesla Effect or Football Manager. The world just looks like a poorly textured sandbox

Good on Abby for showcasing the 2011 game. That was a fun contrast that highlighted the point she was making quite effectively.

It may not be the best in the series, but I enjoy GB diving into these games. Hope to see more in the future! All my knowledge of the Nancy Drew games comes from here haha. How about showings us the best Nancy has to offer?
