This week we're joined by Polygon's Patrick Gill where we will

If you think the GIant Bombcast spends too much time talking about Not Video Games, you're going to hate this thing.

Sekiro is maybe the most disappointing game I've played in a long, long time. I can't remember a game where I have a more visceral dislike of the systems and world design. It exists in this awful middle ground where it is too stripped down to be a good Souls-style game but not stripped down enough to be a satisfying action game.

Everything about it I just find "blah."

@therealturk: I feel the exact opposite. I love Sekiro so much. I've played all the souls games, but the combat in Sekiro is in another league. The fluidity of the battles makes the Souls games feel janky / slow. The AI behaves differently based on what you do to react to their attacks: if you deflect an enemies attack VS dodge VS block will sometimes have different responses. It makes the combat feel more natural and not a simple "I dodge these limited attack patterns, then punish" as some earlier Souls game were. Honestly just the deflection mechanics feels SOOO good to me. That visceral feeling of deflecting the attacks of the Long Arm Centipede enemies back to back... To me Sekiro is above all those other Souls/Bloodborne games, even though I really enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of those other games.

I really loved the combat and traversal part of Sekiro but stripping away all forms of customisation and builds left me with little urge to return to it, as I've done periodically with the souls games. To no fault of the game, it's just a different type of experience and I ultimately enjoyed what they went for.

Also release the monkey, Ben!

i think Yakuza 4 and 5 are getting remastered, as opposed to the full Kiwami remake treatment. i could check for sure but the search bar is just so far up there

Partly disagree with Pat Gill on Yakuza on the series being “clown shit”, yea the side stories are goofy as hell, but the main storylines are some of the most serious around. Really could care less for that attitude.

@cyberspacecat: pretty much how I felt about it too. Great for one playthrough but I don't feel the pull to go back to it like I did with the souls games. Lack of different builds really kills the replayability for me.

Could not get into Sekiro. Played past several major boss encounters and the combat just felt like I was playing a version of quick-time events. It's an amazing game to watch and marvel at the action that is happening in front of you, but I felt less creative and "in control" of the encounters as Bloodborne, which is still the best version of this genre.

3 - 5 are all remastered in Japan now; they're not Kiwami versions like you said, just prettied up the graphics a bit. There's still no word on if/when they'll reach other territories. The thought was they wanted the entire Yakuza series playable on one console.

I love these games, they're fucking great.

@therealturk: Ah, you are talking about Sekiro. The best game I've played since Bloodborne.

A person born on 4/20/69 would be 50 years old today, not 60.

They would also only be six years older than Jeff.

Love Sekiro, though it has obviously less replay value than the other souls games which have lots of possible options to build your character. Sekiros skill trees doesnt offer enough variety and regarding upgrades, once you get the malcontent ring finger upgrade you can pretty much stop upgrading things as the benefits are quite marginal in my opinion.

The only reason to replay Sekiro is to face against those wonderful bosses again.
