Seems kinda cool. The way the rooms are built and enemies placed reminds me a lot of Rogue Legacy.

Having spent a bunch of time with this game, the end of this Quick Look is pretty familiar. Buyer beware.

Also, one of the pets is a Donald Trump joke in a way that made me not want to play anymore.

Had a lot of fun with this one, but I wasn't a fan of how the last two bosses were unlocked (felt like it depended on luck). Still, some of the late game weapon combinations could lead to some crazy Binding of Isaac overpowered runs.

Fury Unleashed is the shooter roguelite I would recommend for 2020. It's like Comix Zone/Contra/Rogue Legacy and it rules.

I kinda wasn't expecting Neon Abyss, with the cover art it has, to just be another one of these.

Where did Brad get his information about the Karma Bar on the bottom left of the screen? I thought it represented Violence (red) and Wisdom (purple) which is defined by your damage received or not throughout your run.

What's more, maxing out the bar enables you to get a secret room on that floor, not Boss health.

You are right, with these you can summon good and bad special item rooms, kinda like Angel/Devil deal rooms in Binding of Isaac.

This game seems like Risk of Rain, except where Risk of Rain gives you all sorts of over the top toys that turn you into an unstoppable force, this game finds new and frustrating ways to yank the carpet out from under you every time you get close to something fun. Oh, and this reminded me the reason I skipped it on GamePass were all the negative reviews complaining about a bug on a boss that made it unbeatable.

That ending...yeesh. Game looks cool but I need to check out the canon of run-based games (Isaac, Dead Cells etc) before even thinking of getting into this one.

So, The purple and red stuff feeds into your upgrades and eventually the ultimate end-game.

You have a meter at the bottom right it starts out as purple (illusion) if you manage to fill the purple bar up by using crystals and beating bosses and rooms without taking damage you will get a notification and will be able to teleport to a secret room that will give you a free upgrade. The other side of this is the Violence meter. The violence meter spawns when you take damage from any of the red spiky things. Usually anything you can use a crystal on like crystal doors, chests ect can be shot and then they'll turn into violence chests, doors and if you take damage you'll gain a significant amount of violence meter. Just like the illusion meter the violence meter will give you access to a secret room where you can get an upgrade the difference is though that to get the item you will have to sacrifice a heart container.

Once you beat Zeus the 3rd "main" boss. You can go after the final two main bosses Aeres and Athena. Both require you to get a token item by going to the corresponding Illusion/Violence rooms multiple times in one run. If you have a violence/Illusion token on you after beating zeus a new portal opens up to the final stage.

I had the misfortune of buying this when it first game out. It is garbage. It makes a good first impression, but far too much of the game is luck-based, the style gets old fast, the humor is terrible and it's glitchy as hell. I would steer clear or it as well as anything else the studio puts out.

Played this one free on Game Pass since I've been huge into Spelunky, Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, etc. Seems neat on the surface, but does not hold a candle to any of those. Ended up beating the entire thing and all "final bosses" in a handful of hours by just getting lucky with powerups, which stack in a completely broken way that leads to every final boss fight being over in less than 10 seconds.

So yeah this is basically my PSA to say "play Enter the Gungeon," that game is fantastic

I feel like this game would only be acceptable <6 months after Rogue Legacy came out. Looking at it now, it's so generic it hurts. Putting lighting effects and reflections into your uninspired pixel art will only get you so far. The market is so flooded with similar games of a higher quality (Gungeon, Risk of Rain, Dead Cells, etc.) that there's no reason to pick this one up.

As a non fan of these types of games.. I have to say this game looks fun and looks awesome! And as expected my loudest laugh out loud moment was when someone did the same thing as I would in the same circumstance.

next time I really feel like hating myself I'll pick it up and play it..

I have so many props for those people who are good at these types of games.. they are my nightmare.

@unga_galunga: Yeah noticed that part way through too. Also not sure if completing the floors and finding bosses faster actually makes them weaker. The karma bar is integral in finding the last two bosses that exist outside of the standard "run" in the game.
