Quick Look: Psychonauts 2

I'm so glad this turned out to be pretty rad from what I've seen!

Didn’t want to watch the whole thing and spoil the beginning for myself but from what I saw it looks real good!

Also welcome to the club Jan! I’ve been starting work at 6:30, meaning I’ve had to wake up at 5:40, for years now! Amazingly I still stay up late. Sleep deprivation is the coolest.

I wish I liked the look of this game more. It seems good, but the off-brand Nightmare Before Christmas aesthetic is a major turn-off for me.

So was that duffle bag making photocopies of its bottom?

Here we go again!

I was excited for this game, the previews looked better and better the closer to release, and I expected it to review well. But man... didn't expect the level of acclaim and universal gushing this game is getting and I am SO FUCKING HYPED - it looks so good!

Also I mentioned this elsewhere but it would be cool if we got back to doing Quick Looks like an hour or more into the game. I've noticed a recent trend on GB that when they want to show off a game they start a New Game. I think typically the opening hours of any title are best experienced for yourself.

My dentist once told me "Since you don't have any cavities with this mess you'll probably never get them." So I do think it varies from person to person.

Psychonauts 1 is 99 cents on Steam right now, I'm gonna play that first because I somehow missed the first one and never played it.

@humanity: Agreed, and intros aren't always representative of what the main slice of the game actually is.

Something about the voice acting or maybe the mixing of the in-game audio makes the game seem lifeless - like you're listening to lines delivered by stilted puppets on a show intended for preschoolers. I don't like it.

I noticed that as well. Could be that the capture downmixed a 5.1 mix in a weird way that didn't left out all the ambience. I know that has happened before here on the site.

@jagerxbomb: I just did that, it's really time consuming but an amazing game. I recommend if you wanna get through it quick to use a walkthrough because that game barely tells you what you need to do next to progress. Finished it in 9 hours on my first playthrough.

It's great that NextLander have started doing Quick Looks now.

16 years ago I was 27 and doing more work and travelling than games.

If one has no history with this game at all, like never even heard of the first one will this be some sort of barrier to want to proceed or can the game stand on it's own?

Psychonauts 2 is awesome and is Double Fine at their most imaginative.

Can't wait to play this. I played most of Psychonauts 1 recently and couldn't finish it cause I really didn't like the way it played, but I adored the writing and art direction so I'm really looking forward to this one.
