The accents in this are fucking horrible. It's the typical shit you hear in western movies and TV, a generic "African" accent that sounds like a lazy mixture of West/East/South African with Caribbean sprinkled in for good measure.

Not one of these dudes sounds like they are actually from North Africa.

I had the same reaction. To be fair no one really knows what Egyptians sounded like in 50 BC, but it would have made a lot more sense to just record modern Egyptians/North Africans and get actors who could imitate them.

All that extreme talent poured into the graphics, and then... that facial animation.

Eh I think I'm okay with the media approach of "Well that sounds like it could be right" if you don't absolutely know better.

As opposed to to all these French people who sound very British or Altair just being from America.

Just a semi-answer to Vinny's question about whether Bayek is old for his time. Yes, at various points in human history the average lifespan has been 30-40 years. But the average hides the actual distribution: a lot of children died in infancy or as young kids, and if you survived childhood you were likely to live 60-70 years. So it was a bimodal distribution with one peak below age 5 and another peak around 65, resulting in a totally-misleading average near 35.

Caveat: I don't know whether this is true of this period of Egyptian history, but I am pretty sure it was true for most pre-industrial societies.

This reminds me more of Witcher 3 than Destiny. I can get behind that as a new direction for the series. Looks great, will definitely pick it up once I finish Mario whether there is a price drop or not.

@iwanecky:To be fair Cleopatra is a descendant of the greek rulers of Egypt in the wake of Alexander's empire's collapse. Cleopatra and her ilk have very little to do with the history of Egypt that we generally hear about.

I honestly don't get how Vinny's mind was blown by the colored loot. Other action RPGs have had it, and besides that, it's not mind blowing to go from level up mechanics and getting progressively better weapons, to then categorizing the weapons in some way.

I thought it was fairly clear that he was mocking it.

This game seems buggy.

I've played 15 mins, and so far experienced:

  • Sound not working on a Logitech headset - basically the dialogue is missing from the sound mix. (Seems to be a common issue with Logitech surround headsets and this game).
  • Weird skipping in the animation, with accompanying digital noise through the speakers (This is while outputting through my TV in stereo - not related to the Logitech issue).
  • When the game asks me to hit TAB during the tutorial, the key is not responding.

Not promising....

Edit: 15 mins later - game froze. Back to Mario :P

The cloth physics look better than Syndicate's, but there is still some really really ugly looking flags and stuff in this quick look.

I think I'd play another Assassin's Creed if it was in a setting I was interested in.

At this point, the only ones I can think of are:

....

Pirates - I'm not normally into this but Black Flag was the last game I enjoyed. Loved the atmosphere and visuals. Colorful.

Hopefully, Skull & Bones will satisfy that need; but I think S&B in still a year of though.

Oh my lordy lord. The cart guy panicking with a blank stare on his face while looking into space. The people on horses in the distance at 15:00 without any animation that look like paper dolls shuffling along a path. Fuckin' Ubisoft.

Played about 10 hours of this. It's the worst Assassins creed in my opinion. I hate all the open world busy work and you can't ignore the side stuff like you could in the older games because you have to level up to be able to just do the story missions. I'm just going to youtube the ending of the game because so far it's extremely boring.

The setting certainly looks interesting and the game looks gorgeous, but the combat looks pretty lackluster. Also, the NPC voice acting sounds awful.

Dear God, Ubisoft, please hire some better writers for your dialogue. I hope nobody brings up corpses with hard-ons in this game, but I wouldn't be surprised.

While I'm glad this game has Ancient Egypt as its setting - I find it fascinating - it sure does look like more 'Assassin's Creed'. So this one might not be for me, but this video answered most of my questions about Origins, so thank you Alex, Abby and Vinny for a cool Quick Look!

@monkeyking1969: Isn't that just multiplayer naval combat though? Eh that's not quite what I want lol

I guess I want a pirate action RPG in a massive world. Sailing the seas, treasure hunting, visiting coastal towns, villages, old ruins etc. Dense jungles and vast open ocean. Black Flag was gorgeous.

Sea of Thieves had my attention at first but having seen more of it, maybe not so much.

I'm disappointed at how Assassin's Creed-y it is. I hoped it would have changed a bit more after the break.

Also, PLEASE STOP award for 2017

From reading the comments here, I'd like to pitch in on the Historical settings and time periods I'd like to see an 'Assassin's Creed' game set in (do note that, lore-wise, I may be contradicting existing events in the 'AC' canon I'm unfamiliar with):

- Germania - 12 BCE-9 CE - The protagonist would be a German Assassin opposing the Roman Legions of Legati Germanicus and Tiberius. The story would culminate in the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest - from which the Romans, stalled in their conquest, would be withdrawn on the order of Emperor Augustus, leaving Germania as one of the few unconquered areas of Europe by the Roman Empire.

- Viking Age - 790-1066 CE - The protagonist would be a Viking Warrior navigating their own people in a time of great expansion throughout Scandinavia and beyond - and rooting out the Templars' designs on Europe from within (after the fall of the Roman Empire - and, for the sake of series lore, the work of the Germanic Brotherhood of Assassins following the resistance to the Empire's conquest in the previous game.)

- Valley of Mexico - 1519-1521 - The protagonist would be an Aztec Assassin going up against the Spanish Conquistadors (with said Conquistadors having Templar backing.) Although the Aztecs were defeated in this conflict, I can picture a Halo Reach-esque setup wherein the player knows how it ends but attempts to save their people and culture, and ensure the survival of the Order.

- France - 1914-1918 - Would Ubisoft be respectful? Could they resist a scene of the protagonist going 'over the top' into No Man's Land and surviving the machine gun fire because Assassin? I'd be interested to see an Assassin involved in the stealthier aspects (tunnelling, for instance) with that setting at that time. I've heard there's a bit of WW1 in Syndicate? I'd be interested to have a look.

And WW2, but if the focus were on the Partisan resistance groups around Europe (as that'd be a good fit for an Assassin operating in the shadows.)

@hassun: I'm maybe 10 minutes in and I think I agree. It's surprisingly the same looking thing as before. Colored loot actually seems like a beneficial addition to this franchise (it's basically been there in some form already, as mentioned) but it's just so...not a leap forward. Maybe I'm not sure what I want from a new AC game but it isn't this.

One of my favorite Egypt facts: The Pyramids were more ancient to the Romans, than the Romans are to us in 2017!

(2,057 years ago from this year, Rome conquered Eqypt, but this was 2,520 years after the Great Pyramid of Giza was completed.)

They're super old, imagine being a traveler and finding those things, you'd think the gods laid them out, and they still exist, and that's awesome! Time is wild. I hope to see them one day.

Edit: Darn it, @iwanecky and @efesell mentioned this already. They have very good taste in factoids. This is what I get for always sorting by latest...

This game actually looks really cool! And i say that as an assasins creed fan that had 0 expectations or hype for this new game. I think il actually get back to assasins creed and skip mordor this year.

I also hope they actually put the education mode in the normal game. I would legit use it. Last time i took a deep interest in ancient Egypt was like 15 years ago, i could do with a refresh on some things.

This looks super cool. I wsh they didn't just crib the look of loot from a zillion other generic loot systems but that's an aesthetic nit pick at worst.

Wish I had time for yet another 80 hour open world game right now. Hopefully they keep it at 2+ years between games, then I'll have time to get to this.

@mars92: The only reason I think something got in the way is that it was on the schedule at some point then it just didn't happen.

Does seem like that for whatever the reason it had to be passed on and a revisit doesn't seem all likely now after the fact.

I kept thinking I heard 'Bubba' as who needed rescuing in that one quest. And I was expecting the protagonist to go back and hit Bubba upside the head with a crowbar.

This game looks okay. Black Flag really didn't interest me, Egypt does, so perhaps by Christmas sale....

Not gonna lie, I'm with Abby here. It's a bit disappointing that they didn't set this in Old, Middle, or New kingdom Egypt, where you could see the monuments in all their glory - Imagine an Assassins Creed game set during the Bronze Age Collapse.

The monuments are falling apart because at this point Egypt has been conquered and occupied for a good long time by different peoples, from the Assyrians, to the Persians to, at this point, the Greeks. As someone mentioned before, in 50 BCE the pyramids had been built 2500 years before. From today back to the time where this is set has only been 2000. The pyramids were already incredibly ancient.

However I do like that they're tieing this in with Cleopatra and Julius Caesar. At first I found it a bit odd that they didnt go with Marc Antony instead, but I'm still 99% convinced the end of this game is going to be the battle of Actium.

This world is the best looking game next to rise of the tomb raider. 4k on ultra my god this world looks incredibly beautiful and I'm playing it on one of the best monitors available at 60 fps with no drops and it's just stunning. I've spent about 2 hours climbing cliffs and just hunting things. I am enthralled. The combat is awesome too, take down and then smash them with a war hammer, this is so my jam.
