Man the zoom on that scope with the blurred background was just plain bad looking, other games have handled the blur effect better.

I find that the animations during the campaign looked lackluster. At some instance it looked as if the NPCs where ice skating instead of walking, especially when Hesh was walking op to the first house in the Gears of War setting. For scripted sequences, that is really bad.

They have an orbital weapon called ODIN? As in Orbital Defense Initiative? Way to crib from the Mortal Engines Quartet.

This is messed up to admit, but I never finished either. Shit, in the first game I made it to the last planet and got stuck. I bought them both on Steam not that long ago so that I might replay them and actually complete them. But I still haven't managed to stick with it long enough to get past the first planet in KOTOR. I'm ashamed.

@brad the USAF actually has what is probably the largest space program in the world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Force_Space_Command. Just because there isn't much of a civilian space program doesn't mean the US isn't spending a ton on space stuff. Just not for science.

Question for people who have played many Call of Duty games including Ghosts:

I have played the first Modern Warfare and thought it was really great. I played it for the single player. I haven't played a Call of Duty game since, because they seemingly were the same each time and I already got what I wanted out of Modern Warfare. However, now a lot of time has passed since then, and I'm kinda in the mood to play another game like that. Will I like Ghosts? I've read the single player isn't that great, but is that because those people have also all played every game in between? I am in the mood for such a game right now. Will it still feel exactly the same as the first Modern Warfare?

The first Modern Warfare revolutionized first person shooters in many ways.

It didn't at all. The only thing Modern Warfare did that was new and pretty impressive (at the time) was the online system and perks.

Call of Duty 4, played identical to Call of Duty 2, it didn't move the genre forward at all outside of the multiplayer stuff. (which is not even genre specific)

Ghosts is very underwhelming. It plays exactly like Modern Warfare 3 which i didnt like. The guns feel soft and sound odd. Multiplayer just feels bad to me. You are dead before you see your attacker most of the time, even when he is right in front of you. You may even seem to shoot first.

Infinity Ward made some really bad decisions on this game (Im with Jeff on the "Teabag your victim for a care package" bull ass crap) and has officially lost me.

Black Ops 2 is a far superior game and a year from now, if im playing any Call of Duty, it will be that one.

Now im going back to Battlefield 4.

Bummer. I think I'd still like to see it though. At very least, I want to revisit that game.

Did you even play Call of Duty 2? It's literally the exact same gunplay. Call of Duty 4 added perks, some multiplayer modes and its XP system. It didn't move the actual FPS genre forward, just multiplayer systems.

no real point in going on with this, I thought this was pretty common thinking.

lmao. I watched this live, and when that guy tackled that wolf, the chat exploded in the best of ways. I was laughing so hard when that happened and called my roommate in to check it out. So crazy and unnecessarily over the top!

I just realized this is nothing more than Quake 3 with contemporary weapons.

Wait, no! Quake 3 has everybody on a level playing field, whether you load it up for the first time or have played it religiously for 15 years, you'll have the exact same stuff to do your best with - you don't get access to guns, accessories and perks that make you straight up more powerful than a newcomer the more you grind, your shotgun has the same firing rate, accuracy and damage output as any others. Getting good at Quake 3 is all about learning the game instead of climbing the upgrade tree.

I think the huge success of COD 4 basically standardized the left trigger aim, right trigger shoot controls that nearly all first person shooters use these days. Halo is the only major FPS I can think of off the top of my head that doesn't use this system. While the previous COD's may have done that as well, not all other FPS's did, and now they do. So to me that is revolutionizing the genre. Add to that the game being MODERN, with current weapons, and not just old WWII single shot carbines and crappy sub machine guns. Then add all the other things you listed and you have a game that changed or affected all other shooters going forward. It could easily be considered the most influential and important game of this generation, especially in regards to video games becoming a major part of the entertainment industry and popular culture.

That sure was a convenient time for that church to fall. Also, these games keep looking less and less interesting to me ever since the first Modern Warfare. It's kind of astounding that this is still the best-selling franchise out there.

I don't know, I kind of weirdly admire the path of foreign threats for the CoD series in a dumb way. First it was Nazi Germany, Russians, Middle Eastern people, then the Japanese, the Chinese, that Spanish speaking Raul Menendez guy, and now just all of South America. They have run out of those acceptable World War / Cold War targets.

When does Belgium get a shot? Or Madagascar? If you're going to strike up a fictional war with fictional federations, you might as well just go crazy with it. Just go with the revenge of Canada.

This time, they're coming to collect for all those dumb hockey and bacon jokes. Call of Duty: Great White North - Coming Summer 2014

Oh hey! Cool! Dudes just showed up shooting people in a fucking space station! What does Jeff do?

Look away as fast as possible from this new scene, and instead stare up the ass of the astronaut you have to follow, inching behind him as close as possible. I understand not tearing it up playing well while doing quick looks, but can you dudes try to make an effort to show the game somewhat decently? Who just turns away from story scenes and set pieces to look at the dude and the boring ass empty hallway you will have ample time soon enough to crawl through and admire?

Giant Bomb Dot Com everyone.

Jeff, I love you and you're a cool funny dude with the worst taste in food and video games imaginable. But that's OK. However, goddamn, you be the most video game hating dude to run a video game website ever. Do you even like games anymore? I mean, I know this is COD, and a bad one at that, but this feeling is seeping into every video you are in. I'm cynical as fuck about games and you're bringing even me down.

I haven't played this, and I won't for a long while (if ever), but I'm glad they've added that knifing animation to tone down on the knife spam. Jeff also said a few times that the maps were more open this time, but from all of the ones in the QL it certainly didn't look like it, which was my biggest gripe with both MW3 and Black Ops 2. I'm equally uninterested in this as I am the new Battlefield. Maybe BF4 didn't cut features, but it sure didn't seem to change or add much either.
