Well those menus definitely fix one of the big problems I have with this series. Now if the PC version lets you custom bind controller inputs I might give it a try. Still not a huge fan of the overall structure of these games and the repetition inherent to it, though.

Huh, I noticed that durability on Brad's main sword decreased really quickly when fighting enemies, but is restored fully when he dies, does this mean you don't need to repair weapons at vendors?

They're totally restored whenever you visit a bonfire, but if a weapon breaks fully you have to bring it to a blacksmith to repair it and use it again.

@brad The same thing happened with me up that ladder. A crow flew by and a huge dude showed up. I ran away, but when I came back he wasn't there. He's never showed up again and I've been there a ton of times.

Ah, I didn't know that. Still, that's like 1,5 month. I wouldn't be able to wait that long. I just found out I didn't get it today as I thought. I get it Friday, maybe a bit earlier, and I can barely keep it together. I'll have finished it 3 times before we hit April 25th.

So when Brad wasn't doing much damage to the guy with the shield, is it because the way Brad was swiping, it was actually hitting the shield? Like, kind of a passive blocking? If so, does that work for your guy too?

If you mean the spearmen, they can attack while blocking. The player can do this as well, it has been a thing since Demon's Souls, which is one of the reasons spears and other thrusting weapons are very "new player friendly".

Note to @Brad and @Vinny: You can light a torch at the bonfire. You have to press 'Y'/Triangle to swap to that option when at a bonfire. Atleas that was the case during the beta.

Gotcha, I guess it's a more interesting system than the ones in the previous games since durability in Dark Souls was a joke. I hope they balance out the number of enemies and the distance between each bonfires so that breaking equipment is something that is always a risk but doesn't occur often if you are cautious with your attacks.

Well you have three slots for each hand and can carry as much as you want in your bags, so you can always switch stuff around. It's just annoying when weapons have like 20 durability. Found a really powerful whip but I can barely use it before it breaks.

@rorie: That's interesting. Maybe that will actually make the rings that slow down the durability loss of a weapon pretty useful in this game though.

So Brad is dual wielding, but won't parry, won't stagger opponent with a kick and just keeps being afraid and rolling away wasting stamina while equipping a shield and a bow he can't even use. Bravo!

True, but I never equip more than two weapons in each hand because of equip burden (unless they also retooled that as well to accommodate the extra slots) since if I like a weapon I would usually stick with it until the next best thing comes along. Also, I'm not sure if this happened in the previous games but maybe there's a way to increase durability through reinforcement?

@Vinny Caravella was super right about the sword hitting walls and losing durability. Takes a while but resting at a bonfire will fix it unless it breaks which will then need a blacsmith.

@chose: He's also locking onto every target he can. Hopefully not just those of us who did the network betas October-November know how bad of an idea that is. I will nitpick on that until people learn the true path and start spreading the word.

Also later on, Brad equip a shield and neither of them know the numbers on the right are physical and elemental damage reduction when you block. Seriously? You finished Dark Souls!
And Brad could have dual wield that sword and at least get a 75% dmg reduction in tight spaces instead of freaking out, not to mention the added dmg, just my two cents.

I have this on the way from Gamefly, and I'm not sure if I'm happy about that or not. I only ever played about an hour or two of Demon's Souls. I own Dark Souls and had fun playing, but never actually finished it. I got to a point I wanted to take a break and play something else a bit, but was away from it so long I can't really go back without starting over(which I REALLY don't want to do).

Hopefully, I'll actually be able to finish Dark Souls 2.

Welp, before you even hit the 7 minute mark, misinformation in the video. Oh Giantbomb. :)

Edit: Seriously, you can just light torches at bonfires. Jesus.

I don't think anything in the QL was presented as information, since they pretty much said upfront "we've played very little of this and we really don't know what the fuck we're doing" (paraphrasing).

It's a Dark Souls game, for all we know, everything is misinformation - it's practically the point of the game.

Er... No, not at all. The Souls games are about giving you very little information and letting you figure out the systems at play, but there is never any direct misinformation.

Though I haven't played the other games(just watched the GB videos), this definitely looks polished from a gameplay standpoint, which is great. However, the graphics...I don't know. It kind of seems a lot worse than Dark Souls/Demon Souls. I do think the lighting is a big part of that. Maybe there are some places that look better later on.
