There's a bit of a disconnect with the remastered graphics but still having the same "old adventure game jank". I like the whole package though.

This game and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis came bundled with the Pentium I my dad bought in the early 90s. Both became favorites of mine in middle school, and I was surprised to learn later that they were both so well regarded. I was only too happy to be given the opportunity to buy this remastered version to relive the experience (and perhaps win over a few Sierra games diehards ;)). I hope it lives up to my memories of it.

The first game I ever played, sat and watched my older bro play through it as a 7 year old. What an introduction to video games..

My brother got Day of the Tentacle when I when I was 4 or 5 and it is still a game that I, as well as my entire family, loves dearly to this day. I still have that CD from all those years ago and play through the game from time to time on Scumm VM.

Maybe it is because I love the original so much that I really dislike the remastered graphics. Backgrounds seem okay but the characters look like someone took the sprites, added a Super Eagle filter to them, and then cleaned them up a bit in Photoshop. Although I do love the uncompressed audio and commentary track, so I may still pick this up eventually.

Also I'm a little worried about how the original graphics look in this release. In the video the aspect ratio didn't seem quite right so the sprites looked a bit messed up. Hope that was just the video and not what it actually looks like.

This is probably one of the laziest and most half-assed 'remasters' I've seen in a while.

Remastered music still sounds like general midi, controls are very clunky if you don't use mouse and keyboard (for example on the PS 4). Game has significant load times between screens and about two hours in the game crashed and took the save with it.

Notable bugs:

The iMuse music stops playing sometimes or hangs on one piece of music that repeats over and over again

The game has multi-second load times on screen transitions

Sometimes the game hangs for a few seconds after a screen transition. You can see the characters but you can't control anything

The game has already crashed twice on me, the second time it ate my save. Every time I Ioad the save the game crashes.

I regret having paid $15 for that when I simply could have played my original CD version on ScummVM. For a remaster that had been announced with such fanfare I expected a bit more than slightly redone graphics, a remastered score that still sounds like a general MIDI set from the mid 90's and more bugs han the original ever had. Confirms my opinion of Double Fine though.

The game pauses for a brief moment when you enter a scene for the first time and concept art unlocks, but otherwise I haven't noticed any loads (ps4 at least).

For the most part I really like the repainted stuff, it really does look like How I Remember It, and it's great to hear the voice acting without the often horrific compression in the original release.

Wish I could erase my memory, though. 50% through and I still remember all the solutions.

I've tried playing this several times but it just never hooked me. Dunno why, I've played plenty of other Lucas adventure games. Monkey Island 1-3 and Full Throttle are some of my favorite games.

Another example of just how lazy that remaster is:

They couldn't even be bothered to lip sync the animations to the dialogue in the remastered graphics. So the characters still move their mouths even though there's no dialogue - like in the original.

They had to re-do the character animations for the remastered graphics yet couldn't be bothered to sync the talking animations to the dialogue. Alternatively the PS 4 version is jsut badly out of sync.

@petethepanda: just imagine if every game would pause for a few seconds every time an "achievement unlocked" or similar pop-up was displayed on screen. This is not acceptable.

This game is phenomenal. I do not like "remastered" graphics because I think it makes the games look like butt, but I would pay 15 bucks just to play through the original again.

Pixels suggest a form and allow your imagination to complete it. High resolution art with low details just looks sparse, flat, and untextured and uninteresting. As an artist, it's almost objectively bad. In an art class any instructor would tell them to add texture to create visual interest. But because the only thing that matters to nerds is resolution numbers, people want "high res"...

@nigeth: Well that is a general problem with remastered versions of games that have a button to switch between new and old graphics, they both have to have the exact same animation and nothing can be drastically altered. They did re-do the character animation in that they redrew everything but all the frames have to be the same as the original or else the graphic switch button will not work.

Definitely one of my favourites if not my absolute favourite game of all time, but it is always an issue a game that I played so much back in the day; I beat it in a couple of hours the other day including cut scenes because the majority of the game was just engrained within so it plays out like more of a visual novel to me. Still amazing though and glad I got to play it again and have it around for posterity without having to fiddle with Scumm VM and trying to get the audio to work properly.

The remastered graphics look odd because they haven't added more detail where there would have otherwise been pixels which left some elements up to interpretation and the imagination (just look at the robber character they mention for example). Doesn't look terrible though, and the original pixel art holds up extremely well.

I have to agree with this (unfortunately) that the remastered art looks really bland.

& @vinny was thinking of Chuck Jones (also of the Roadrunner cartoons)

Started watching the QL and got 10 minutes in and said "Nope I'm not watching this" because I'm buying this right now and don't want any spoilers at all. Great game and I still have the triangular box (with the CD inside) that I bought way back when the game first came out. Easily in my top 3 games of all time.

Not super loving the cleaned-up graphics (the Monkey Island remasters are still the best in that regard) or the verb wheel, but I'll certainly get around to this at some point.

I think we need a Hugo's House of Horrors HD collection. Nitemare 3D in UE4, particularly.

@vinny@alex The timeline for this was something like this.

Grim Fandango Remastered was announced at E3 2014.

Then Schaffer appeared at Playstation Experience 2014 to announce the Grim Fandango release date and that they were continuing their LucasArts/Disney relationship with Day of the Tentacle.

So its been a little under 18 months.

I got so excited when they started up the original Maniac Mansion! I have fond memories of that game.

Anyone know which version of the game that was. It definitely wasn't the NES version... Commodore 64?

Use Progressive or HTML5 player, for some reason Streaming doesn't work for this one.
