Quick Look: Dead Space 2 Multiplayer Beta

The gaming press has a track history of being wrong about formerly single-player franchises incorporating a mutliplayer component, always saying the games "don't need it" and are "wasting their resources." The press says this because they are very dumb and really know nothing about what they're covering. Uncharted, Bioshock, and now Assassin's Creed are all examples of them being completely wrong. 
 
However, Dead Space seems to be the first win in their column.

It seems pretty bland to play as Necromorphs honestly.

The animations of the little monster guys are kinda bad.

This makes me sad. I loved the original Dead Space, it was so polished and was just a solid game all round, it was the perfect length for me.
 
Watching this just makes the game seem bloated, its not necessary and will only detract from the main game if it's bad (which it looks like) and seems a waste of a multiplayer mode.
 
The visuals don't look very sharp either, but that might just be the texture's on the Necromorph's themselves.

This does not look fun at all. Like a grinder in all kinds of ways.

Necromorphs spawn every five seconds huh.

I think it looks alright tbh, but I still would play DS2 primarily for the campaign.
 
Now if they introduced a two player campaign co-op.....

This doesn't seem to fit Deadspace at all, the constant respawning takes all the tension out of the game. I doubt this has any long term appeal...

It seems like the humans actually have to coordinate and work together. It's not THAT novel of an idea, but I really dig the objective-based gameplay rather than simply "Kill the other dudes more than they kill you."

i played the psn beta and it's a boring game, but it's a beta, lets have hope

More unneeded multiplayer. No one is going to be playing this online after the first month, it's just a waste.

Bummed that now every game needs to have some sort of lame multiplayer aspect to it. Still buying this because the first game on its own was awesome.

that little tentacle baby could really use some inverse Kinematics before the game ships. Got oblivion flashbacks watching it slide along the floor like it was ice.

Another video for the collections of quick moments of characters played by Brad dying gruesomely. Nice to see this beta but it's still a title where the multiplayer seems unneeded like Bioshock2. I'd rather have tons more single player stuff or maybe co-op over multiplayer.

Kinda wished i never seen this, and under the realization that it is a beta this is grossly unbalanced. Buying DS2 for single player anyways.

is it just me or does anyone else find it frustrating watching brad play?

I enjoyed the beta a bit. Then again, I love anything Dead Space. 
I was actually surprised to see the humans win a game. In all the games I played, the humans lost. So I guess it was cool to see what happens when the humans win. 
 
Regardless, Dead Space 2 is a day one purchase just for the story and extraction bundle. 
If it has a spiffy multiplayer component attached to it, all the better.

I'm watching this while eating a ham sandwich. I remember this game being grosser??

This doesn't look good at all. I still haven't played Dead Space... will buy it during christmas Steam sales.

This looks terrible!

It's a beta. But at the moment it looks like you're not able to play with a lot of the more entertaining Necromorphs. No slashers, or those tall ones that split into tiny tentacle heads when you try to hack it apart. No suicide Necromorphs with the swollen yellow sacs. No hulking brutes (although the maps would have be to pretty big to accommodate something like that), not even the super fast twitcher ones from the military ship. 
 
That would have helped explain to me why a game like this needs multiplayer.

I don't think this will have any lasting appeal, say a year after release. Never played the original dead space but might pick it up. 
 
Some sort of L4D2 thing with multiplayer would be great and add a reason to come back to the game. 
Also, this is beta, it's not finished so I don't know why people are complaining about the graphics. 

It reminds me of a shittier version of Natural Selection.

So, spawn camping, seeing names through walls, and unbalanced long-range attacks with no counter, all while moving and turning very slowly with clunky melee.  Pass.

Mark another 20-30 deaths up on the wall for Brad.
 
Also I hate the new RIG design. The one in the last game was much more precise. The organic flashing fluid is just annoying.

I am buying this game for the singleplayer, the multiplayer probably won't even be touched :P

As much as i like Dead space, and will be buying Dead Space 2, the multiplayer looks BAD.

I think since the DP ER I just get frustrated watching Brad "pulling Brad". Before, I didn't care at all. Even enjoyed the Velvet Assassin QL.

Been playing the PS3 multiplayer beta for a little over a week now. 
Trust me when I say this. It's good. It's far better than any of the trolls are saying.

Dead space dont need multiplayer. simple as that.

It might help if Brad knew how to play, but this would probably still like awful anyways

It looks interesting, and I enjoy Left 4 Dead but the UI lacks the beauty that the Deadspace UI is known for.
