Quick Look: DiRT 4

I'm excited but the pc release isn't until tomorrow making the wait hard this week

Please be good. I love me a Codemasters racing game. PC version is pretty expensive on Steam. I guess it's because these games don't sell as well as Anime novels or whatever.

Gymkata killed Dirt 3 for me. I wanted to race and progress, but they made that new mode a huge part of the game and I just had no interest.

I wanted this to be good, but since I bounced off of Dirt Rally and this looks about as soulless as that, I may skip :(

Was hoping for special guest, Dirt expert, Drew Scanlon :(

I'm only seven minutes into this and I already wish Drew was still here to play this because he at least has small knowledge on the subject of American rallycross/rally racing.

it's only a minor gripe. I still love Alex, Vinny, Dan, and Abby please don't hurt me.

I just started this QL, but just FYI a joker lap is a section of track that you have to take once per race to make it more interesting. You can choose when to take it. The "delta joker" is an average of how much it'll add to your time since the joker lap makes the circuit slightly longer.

Yeah I hated that part but got the hang of it eventually, I just didn't want to be broken by that crap. :D

There's always Dirt Rally, pure old fashioned rallying. Really difficult though unless you can memorize the stages, which takes a long time.

Oh and the Joker is the lane you have to drive through at least once that takes you wide of the normal track, otherwise you get a penalty.

@johnny_sailor: In addition to making things more interesting, it generally spaces out the field a little more and makes things safer on the track.

What happened to all the slick menus that they put into the previous games?

Dammit Vinny I actually bought that story.

After watching the first 5 minutes of this, I'm never getting in car with Alex driving.

I knew Vinny was going to fuck with Dan when he said "Do you know where cockpit comes from?". I could have sworn Dan was just playing along until the reveal.

@zheelz: Haha, yeah, same here. It's still fun to watch and I love the guys, but that first race was worse than what my 5 year old could do and they were so confused by the joker. Not hating, it was just funny.

Gymkhana (the motorsport thing) steals its name from Gymkhana (the equestrian thing) and both essentially are the same thing, just one with cars and one with horses. Its an event where you attempt to set the fastest time going around a course whilst showing great skill and control of your car (or horse).

Gymkhana (the motorsport thing) has become famous for tight turns and lots of drifting thanks to the small, quick circuits used that feature a lot of sharp turns and sections that include intentional donuts cause that's fucking cool.

@alex I'm pleased to inform you that Dacia is a real car (made in Romania) and not a fictional car that only appears in PUBG :)

Dirt 4 looks fun, glad they are kind of going back to their mcrae roots.

I'm glad Dan and I can finally agree on something, even if that thing is the superior type of Cheeto.

Dirt rally is the best feeling driving game I've ever played. As I mentioned gotta wait until tomorrow for pc but good things are being said aboutique dirt 4 to make it sound like a more accessible version of dirt rally. If you like racing games play dirt rally it's fastest racing game made so far with burnout takedown being the other best fast racing game.

Vinny's mention of TrackIR got me thinking, how great would it be to see Vinny do a DCS quick look with Alex and Dan. Specifically Dan, think about it...

I live like 30 minutes away from Hell, Norway. Hell's a quite nice place.

It's great how the more dad Vinny becomes, the more incredibly corny his bits become. Cringeworthy. Hate and love them at the same time.

@vinny Hey Vinny, Paradise doesn't have Crash mode but has another similar mode called Showtime. Just press R1 and L1 while driving and it will start ;)

So, Hell is a place in Norway, it means luck in Norwegian. The rewind feature in car games i believe was first in Grid.

@rocketskates: yeah, I was pretty excited when I bought Dirt Rally but it really didn't feel like a game. There was no sense of progression. And it was INSANELY hard.

Vinny trolling Dan is the best.

FYI, the DirtFish Rally School is a real thing. It's in Washington state east of Seattle.

What, he doesn't know what the joker is? He said it himself, he's a fan of the Dirt games and he's played most of them, how do you not know?

Guh, I probably shouldn't be getting upset at this. I guess I just miss Drew for these.

To get a fast start, shift into neutral, hold the brake while holding the throttle just before the red, then release the brake and shift into first as the race starts.

When I saw this I immediately thought to myself:"Hey, a new Drew Quick Look!"

And then I got sad. :(

I believed Vinny. He's such a nice guy I want to believe everything he says.

For a second I believed that Vinny story too.. I'm so ashamed

SeemsTrapper Keeper still going on & I also wanted that story on the cockpit to be real. Makes more sense & more fun than how it really got it's name, stupid boats.

Thank feck Gymkhana stuff doesn't seem as prominent as in previous DiRT games.

My dad was a Rallycross driver. He took it up after bike racing robbed him of most of his knee cartilage and he got pretty good at it.
