Ryan should have jumped off the edge at the end of the Quick Look... what a monstrosity of a game.

They've missed out a pretty big change in the DLC. They added an option in the settings that allows you to carry four guns at a time instead of just two. I played this on the PC version and that was an in-game tooltip early on that came up.

I played through the game with and without this feature on; it really doesn't change the way the game plays at all considering the game is built around Duke only being able to carry 2 weapons. Since ammo piles are incredibly infrequent for most guns, you'll be stuck using 2 weapons most of the time anyway.

The DLC feels like a slight improvement over the original game, although that's not saying much. The arenas seem to have more fighting going on in them, the level design seems better, but the core gameplay still seem really dull. Also, you gotta love those long loading times for such small maps. Considering I paid $10 for Duke Nukem Forever, I'm not going to spend as much and only get a smaller portion of the game that doesn't interest me anyway.

Well, I respectfully disagree on the 4 guns point. It made me enjoy the game more because I wouldn't stay bored with a gun for very long.

I agree with the feeling overall of the DLC though which is that it has all the stuff from DNF and it feels slightly improved from the first game, but not improved enough. It's still kinda dull and just feels like going through the motions. The loading times on PC are one of those things that are much improved in this DLC though and they weren't that bad on PC to begin with.

The scientist near the end sounded like Randy Pitchford.

That's all I have to contribute.

These guys just insist on playing everything on console (specifically 360). Even Duke Nukem.

Developers send them that version of the game. They don't "insist" on playing any game on anything. And even if they did, what does it matter?

Why do they (and basically every other gaming site out there) insist on playing DNF, and showing it off on the worst platform?

The console versions of DNF are terrible. They are really, really poor, rushed, low quality ports. Ported by a crap rather poor developer (Piranha Games) and not given nearly enough time or attention to be any good. Having played DNF on both PC and Xbox 360... the difference between the two versions is night and day.

The 360 version.... bad load times, poor performance, texture streaming problems, stuttering and skipping frames... sluggish controls, poor aiming (from the sluggish controls and performance issues), no AA, no v-sync and the texture quality is a mix of the Medium and Low setting from the PC version.

Yet, everyone insists on using it as the example of "what DNF is".

I enjoyed DNF, and the DLC is awesome. Specially once you get past that jumping puzzle, which took me one try on PC... but took me a bit longer on 360 due to the horrible controls. But it has to be played on the proper platform.

DNF is a PC game. It was developed as a PC game, Triptych finished the PC single player... GBX polished the PC single player. Load times are insanely quick, texture detail is much sharper and crisper. Add in FXAA and v-sync makes the game look miles better then the console ports.

No performance problems, no hitching, stuttering... controls are responsive, quick, snappy... aiming is dead on.

I like DNF on PC, a lot. While some of the humor is really forced... and a few levels felt really unfinished, it was fun. But, playing is on the 360 was a horrible experience. Had I played it on the consoles first, I would've hated the game.

Playing this game on PC feels like playing an horrible port. The graphic is bad, loadtimes are bad and the controlls are slow and bad. Despite all that low end crap it takes an really good computer to run it properly, I max out The Witcher 2 at 1080p on this computer but i cant max Duke Nukem forever. Really i cant agree on anything you say and i dont know what planet you played this game on. With that said its good to hear that at least someone enjoys this game.

That is very odd.

Out of all the posts on the GBX forums, and from all my friends... I've heard of almost no one having issues running DNF on PC. Loadtimes take a few seconds here, frames rates can easily top 100 in almost all scenes.

I'd say if you have issues running DNF on your PC, there's something wrong somewhere. The PC version is stable and very well optimized. I have heard there's a small issue with the in game v-sync option. But I use v-sync through my graphics card control panel.

And despite the public "popular" opinion there are a lot of people that like DNF.

The game is not without it's faults, and I have yet to met someone so blinded to ignore them. But there are people that enjoy it.

They literally say "first-person jumping puzzles are universally bad."

Well, Brad says it, but still.

Portal barely fits that definition, since it rarely requires you to jump around, apart from sometimes jumping down a shaft to land in a portal.

Sure, that was generalization, but even if we put Portal in that bag it's still an exception that proves the rule. I liked Mirror's Edge, but there's so plenty wrong with that game and that unfortunately includes the traversal mechanics.

I enjoyed Duke Nukem Forever for its art design, level design, and weapons. It's not game of the year worthy or anything but it was enjoyable. And guess what, I actually enjoy first person platforming and I don't know why people hate it so much. The humor is definitely it's weakest point. Duke being an idol was a real cool idea and made for some interesting senerios and allowed for some really cool environments.

Things like wall boobs and jokes like that were frankly insulting to the intelligence of the player and they continue into the dlc with things like "I didn't need to get my balls shaved". That kindof thing is unexcusably not funny. But just because there's a number of bad jokes doesn't mean its a bad game to me. I feel like the giant bomb crew is letting those bad jokes cloud their overall judgement of everything else DNF has to offer. It's not worth this level of grief.

@MrNeoshredder: when debating best music they all started singing the mario 3d land main theme, then proceeded to not even consider it for best music. seemed to me their genuine reaction showed that only one song stuck in their head. But at the same time how can you not love GB compared to the other sites. They are still the best, so I guess when youre only doing a few things wrong its easier to point them out and criticize.

@MrNeoshredder: You want the same people who you call "hypocritical douchbags", the people who you wish to "Eat shit and die!!!" to recognise the game for what it is. They did that with the review and they talked about it on the podcast.

Even if you think they are wrong, why do you care? Why? If you like the game then why do you care what they say?

P.S.: When you mentioned "idols", for some reason the thought of the GB crew being Jpop idols popped in my head. Veeery bizarre, let me tell ya.

@MrNeoshredder: First thing: thanks for ignoring most of my previous post (not answered my questions). Second: Everything what they said about the game is spot on. It's not funny, boring as hell and tasteless. Stupid jokes can be funny, just like in Bulletstorm and in SotD, if they are used well. Shooting can be good and fun, just like in Bulletstorm (I'm not sure about SotD). The kind of first person platforming which is in this game is not in shooters anymore for a reason (boring, pointless), and before you say: "But there is platforming in Portal!", those puzzles makes you use your brain and are more involved. And you can't possibly defend this game for being tasteless. Third: "...joyless, humorless people, snobs to be precise..." I laughed.

That's not what the subscription does. Wait... you're still here? I thought you're done with GB.
