Watching this just makes more hope that Dirt 4 will be more serious. I was one of those people the Codemasters guy mentioned who played the old Colin McRae series, and I was completely turned off by the Americanisation and 'crazy' gameplay of the recent games. Hopefully Dirt 4 will actually be about rallying for once.

Now that Flatout has gone down the drain with the abysmal third entry in the series, this could really be an alternative to satisfy my Destruction-Derby-needs.

But please: no more Gymkhana... shit was stupid.

And I really hope Codemasters will make a more Rally-focussed game again some day, at least as focussed as Dirt 1 was ... with damage repair between stages, long stages , no "hip" X-games crap etc. And again: no more Gymkhana, please!

Ah, looks very interesting. I really respect in-depth driving games but at the same time I'm more than a bit too dense to be capable of getting good at them most of the time. So this looks like an excellent contender for me to be able to join the fun without getting frustrated or bored.

I remember when before Dirt 3 came out Codemasters talked about it having 'more rally', then it came out and well lol. I paid full $45 preorder on Steam for that, now I never have to worry about giving them that much money again. This thing has a stupid name and seems pretty destined to bomb to me. Only 2 things can come out of that, they stop making Dirt thinking nobody wants it, or go to more rally to keep the series/sales alive. Since we don't have any good rally games right now, the only way we can go is up I guess.

Looks like big Gymkhana game, which was the worst part of Dirt 3. Also, Codemasters have crazy bad DLC policy. I'll pass.

The car is a re-skin of the Jupiter from GRID. The figure 8 track is also from GRID. Actually the handling and damage looks lifted from GRID too.

Wow how condescending, what "Americanization" are you talking about exactly?? The colin mcrae games always sold well in the US. Blaming the game changes on Americans is just ignorant and pathetic, don't be so quick to shovel the blame for something you don't like. Disgraceful, yet so common among non-Americans

This was probably too early to show, it doesn't look like they have enough content for a really substantial demo yet.

I've got faith in Codemasters, though.

Where to begin. The downsizing of rally sections. The introduction of trucks, buggies, hillclimbing etc. X-Games. Gymkhana. The whole "Xtreme" makeover. Need I go on?

Blaming the game changes on Americans is just ignorant and pathetic, don't be so quick to shovel the blame for something you don't like.

I don't think there's much doubt that Codemasters made these changes to appeal more to the American market. All I want is for them to do for rally what they've done for F1, ie. to produce a more serious game that appeals to fans of the sport. As for me being condescending, that was not my intention, and the problems that I have with the direction that this series is going in are not new ones. Sorry if I offended you.

Always strange to hear fellow countrymen touting games, although I know it shouldn't be. Also, I'm in agreement with the majority, think I'll wait for Dirt 4. I want my rallying.

Skipping this game.

The way he described their methods of fixing good players online made me throw up a bit.

"Yeah, if they're good we punish them."

Nope.

Wow, watching this just gets worse and worse. Oh, I was fish-tailed? No problem, I'll just use my infinite boost. Ughhhh.

I don't get why the heck Codemasters don't just do a point-to-point game without any of the "extreme" aspects for once. It seems to me with every new release of DIRT they are catering more and more to the arcade racer style of game, of which there are an absolute glut, whereas there are very few rally sims that concentrate on the timed stages and car management. I'm far from a hardcore rally fan but I had more fun with the McRae games and Richard Burns Rally because they were accessible while remaining as true as possible to the real rally experience.

@Atramentous: I was thinking the same thing.

There seems to be little to no reason why this has the Dirt name to it. Maybe they'll have more to show in the coming months but I'm okay with letting this pass.

Without a bunch of games coming out to do regular Quick Looks of we wouldn't have much video content this month. I think this is them just finding a way to show us games and put out content any way they can.

Respawning in destruction derby, really? Big part of that type of event is the risk-reward of trying to do damage versus trying to stay alive as long as possible (especially in the chaotic beginning) so you can keep racking up points.

I don't want to join in on the massive shitting party but I have to. They lost me on Dirt 3 after having those 3 assholes constantly treat you like your special. "greeaat job you can do it! you're doing great!" it was a minor thing but it really soured the whole game for me, just couldn't get past it, especially when i couldn't mute them out. Also it was just disappointing. Loved Dirt 2 though.

I was a big Flatout guy, so the destruction derby in this is appealing, but...nothing else really is? so far anyway. Also Flatout has been there for your 'demo derby' needs for years, just, no one plays those games.

Was anyone else put off of Dirt 3 because of the dlc feeling more like parts of the game were missing instead of feeling like it would just add more to game? I felt I wasn't able to 100% the game (like i was able to in Dirt2) because i didn't have the dlc. If Codemasters put the cars and tracks in a dlc section until you purchased it without scrolling through the main game and seeing "buy" on a large portion of the tracks and cars I don't think i would of felt like that because Codemasters does give you a lot in the initial game.
