I totally agree with Brad that Dave needs to come back and do another quicklook of this when he's deep into it.

You know I appreciate the "jump into weird shit feet first" approach but why even record these videos if you have no idea what to do? Vinny and Dave were the audience but Brad should have actually given a shit and played this more than 30 minutes to figure out how the game works if it's this complex. Also why was he given this game when Dave was the clear choice here? We all know Brad played Deus Ex back in 2000 when it first came out and didn't even make it past the first mission so again why?

Again I love the humor but when I really want to know more and all I get is a shrug from the person playing, then what the fuck is the point.

I actually like this dynamic here. You've got Brad, who's kind of confused and put off by the whole thing, Vinny, who's just going with the flow and enjoying himself, and Dave, who's frothing at the damn mouth to get the game.

here's what the devs had to say when asked what the games title meant

"a small explanation concerning the term Divine Cybermancy, as some people asked us about it:
Divine Cybermancy is a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy, as the player's character more or less follows a similar path. Cybermancy, that means the divination by the cybernetic way, comes to replace the term Comedy. More explanations could spoil the game's plot that we want to preserve".

sounds more interesting knowing that.

This a million times. Brad is really bad at dealing with new complex games and explaining them to people. I would rather have seen Dave run this after he had played with the game for a week, and he could really show off what makes the game interesting.

Brad: "Alright, there is this massive tutorial list... but the tutorials are pretty much useless."

Really? He probably would have known to press "v" to heal if he had watched even the first few in the beginning.

How old is your PC? cause they said it's running on source, so it's bound to run on pretty much any computer from the last 5 or 6 years.

My theory on cyberpunk and the color green: It's a way to reference the green on black terminal text from early computer era. I know that's a fact in The Matrix (remember the green text scrolling over a black background? It pretty much defined that movie). And maybe everything cyberpunk after that just copied The Matrix. I dunno. Anyways, neat game and grat quicklook.

Yeah, actually I think blue was more of the dominant color in cyberpunk movies before The Matrix (Johnny Mnemonic, Robocop, The Killer Machine, Max Headroom and Ghost in the Shell were pretty much all blue as far as I can remember), but I do know a couple that were very green even before that, especially japanese 80's cyberpunk movies are almost entirely in green tones, like Rubber's Lover. I think most of them base their visual style on the "the sky looked like a TV set to a dead channel" line in Neuromancer, and just about every cyberpunk film I can think of use some dominant color filter, even when they aren't blue or green (the orange tone in Blade Runner, and more red in Halbe Welt, Akira and Hardware).

Your theory on the color green sounds reasonable (also a common color for the lights on and in office buildings), the blue tones makes sense for the same reason but with more recent monitors and TV screens, and the orange or red seem to be based more on the colors of street lights, neon signs and the more post-apocalyptic vibe of some of those (both Blade Runner and Hardware take place in post-nuclear war irradiated cities mainly inhabited by the people who couldn't afford to leave for the off world colonies).

It uses the half-life 2 engine and pretty much runs on any post-2004 hardware if you lower the graphics settings a bit.

I'm a quarter into the video, but I'm glad my already growing sentiment  is shared in the comments. Painful to watch where half of what the player says is prerequisite with "I don't know". Besides that, this game looks fucking amazing.

God, I have to continuously pause this video because of how painful it is to watch. The hacking toward the end... come on Brad. It seems like every time you're only watching HP. Enemy is clearly lowering your attack to zero and then just destroying you because he's hitting for like 6x more than you at that point. Oh, and also, you finally read the tooltips for hacking 45 minutes into the video?

Like other people said, I get the whole "playing games on camera" thing, and normally I'm not one to jump on that, but I think you're misrepresenting this game by not even trying to learn the systems beforehand.

I said it once, I'll say it again, Brad is best left to current and mainstream games, for some reason he just can't wrap his head around controls being inconvenient, or having game mechanics not be like Call of Duty. He's a man of the times and when he sees a game mechanic he likes he instantly assumes all games should play that way. Also, Read a dang tutorial for ONCE Brad, please.

This was the best 17 dollars I've ever spent. I have no idea what I've done in the 16+ hours I've played it, story wise, but goddamn is it fun. It's amazing and weird and gloriously ambitious. You can hack everything, including other cyber brains.

I've had this same problem with quite a few of the Quick Looks where not only do they not seem to take the time to briefly familiarize themselves with the game's core mechanics, but they don't even attempt to learn during the video (if it is their very first time playing for example).

Sadly I have only seen a few of your examples. But you make a good point. It's all sensible to trends. Like Brad said in the video, lots of movies in the late 90s had a green hue and it's possible The Matrix just picked up on that. Not to get too off-topic but isn't green also used, in cinema, to create a feeling of sickness, decay and dehumanization? That's why it fits well into Fight Club, The city of lost children, The Matrix, and so on.

(I was also going to mention Delicatessen and Aliens 4... but that might suggest that a certain frenchman is behind the green trend).

Yeah, I don't know what all the colors are supposed to represent, but pretty much all the connotations to the color green you mentioned are recurring themes in cyberpunk films (urban decay, smog, epidemics/pandemics, even basic concepts of cyberpunk - high tech vs. low life and the man/machine transhumanism stuff relate to that), so that absolutely makes sense.
